The Development of Floral Still Life Paintings from antiquity to the late Baroque

The thesis provides a general outline of the development of the still life paintings from antiquity to the end of the Baroque era in the European cultural context with an emphasis on the floral still lifes. The text is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the still life paintings in ancient times, which later inspired painters of the younger ages, but also tries to point out to the different understanding of these specific thermes. Some quotations of ancient literature are attached. The second chapter introduces the medieval still lifes. In those times the Christian iconography has formed. The independent still lifes did not exist, however slowly began to appear within religious images like the bearers of the hidden symbolism. In the following chapter the Renaissance still life is introduced in the context of reducing the differences between art and nature observation in connnection with scientific knowledge. The last chapter deals with the Baroque still life painting, examines the development of individual still life paintings, mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries, and presents the differences between still life produced in different European art centres.

The influence of floral morphology on the perception of the flowers by man

Human preference of flowers is a largely unexplored area of research. Although some authors mentioned this topic, it was usually a very brief comment. They typically stated that flowers are most likely preferred because of their coloration and symmetry. But flowers have many forms and colors and it is obvious that some of them are preferred more than others. The aim of this paper was to explore which morphological characteristics of flowers are important for human preference. We discuss how individual differences between people affected their rating of flower attractivity. The effect of flower color, symmetry, complexity, angularity and prototypicality on human preference was experimentally verified. It is described how the flower preference can be influenced by the sex, age, level of expertise and other characteristics of the raters. The results can provide a valuable source of information for experts in horticultural therapy, garden and interior designers, plant breeders, gardeners and other persons interested in the aesthetic value of flowers. There is a lack of relevant sources on this topic not only in the Czech Republic, but also worldwide.

Antioxidant properties of Sambucus nigra flower extracts.

1. Abstract Purpose of this thesis was to prove and determine antioxidant activity of flower extracts from black elder (Sambucus nigra L.) and compile summary of their content substances and effects. Sambuci flos is often used in natural therapy and food industry. The main content substances are flavonoids, phenolic acids, triterpenoids, further are contained in flowers sterols, mucilage, essential oils, tannins. Flavonoids are the most significant, specifically rutin and kvercetin, because they can show antioxidant, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. Flowers are used mainly for their diuretic, diaforetic, expectorant, analgetic effects. Method DPPH (2,2-difenyl-1- pikrylhydrazyl) was used for determination antioxidant activity of methanolic flower extracts. Results of antioxidant activity were expressed as IC50 values (concentration of extract which causes 50% reduction of radical). The average observed IC50values were 0,79 mg/ml and 0,83 mg/ml. The individual IC50values have changed fluently during development of flowers, they range from 1,086 mg/ml and 0,701 mg/ml in both collections. Deviations can be caused by ongoing synthesis of the secondary metabolites.

Fair Trade fruits and flowers on the Czech market

The aim of this work is to introduce specific standards for fair trade products, especially for fruit and flowers. Moreover, the analyses the offer of Fairtrade fruit and flowers on the Czech market and determines consumer attitudes to these certified products. The attention is also paid to the campaigns, which are supposed to improve the awareness of Fair Trade and encourage the interest of real purchases.

Revitalization Program of Floral Garden in Kromeriz

Flower garden is located near the center and along with Kroměříž Podzámecká garden is a nature - architectural monuments, included in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The whole garden is designed to very strict, according to the rules of Baroque garden architecture. Solved territory, the following Flower garden, in the past have been an integral part of the whole garden. For the contemporary nobility was a source of pleasure gardens and relaxation. Currently, the following Flower garden largely neglected and the public is not allowed here. For such sights, which Flower garden undoubtedly is, this situation is disquieting. Bachelor's thesis on the topic of revitalizing the garden should be to clarify issues and outline possible future restoration garden.

Revitalization Program of Floral Garden in Kromeriz

Floral Gardens Kromeriz – a landmark of transnational importance. It is an example which has influenced architectural development in Europe. This Libosad, which has evolved since the 17th century, was used for art loving guests’ delectation. At the present time this world full of antique gods’ sculptures, figures from history or myths; this world formed by espalier walls and blooming flower beds being it all underlined with the work of plasterers, sculptors and fresco painters; this Libosad world is not able to offer to a present person what she/he expects. Since the reason why people visit these gardens has partly changed. The majority of people come to see the landmark, which in 1998 got registered in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list, in the first place and they come to learn something about it. Once on this tourist occasion, they also have a rest and spend pleasant times in the gardens. As a result of that there comes a new space for gaining information and relaxation in one into being.

The primary goal of this thesis is to analyse supply chain in context of international trade with this commodity and subsequent identification of problematic parts to which I find possible solutions. The secondary goal is to offer reader comprehensive image of how trade with flowers works, what kind of operations take place, what kind of logistics and processes are used and finally, how does it look in practice.

Philosophical interpretation of works of Marc Chagall

This thesis covers the interpretation of life and work of Marc Chagall, jewish painter of 20th century. Goal of the thesis is to highlight symbolic motives of his work, and later on interpret those on selected pieces. The thesis is divided into four parts. First part is devoted to the life of the painter and his jewish origin, which had a significant influence on the character of his work. Second part covers the meaning of symbols in art and religon in general. Third tries to compare Chagall's conveyance with two jewish philosophers of the dialog: E. Lévinas and F. Rosenzweig. Fourth then interprets selected pieces with philosophical or religious extent. Whole thesis is based on the conception that art is able to convey messages and interpret the world around us.

Thoughts of Plants

This diploma thesis called "Thoughts of Plants" consists of two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part focuses on an explanation of the basic thoughts and inspiration that comprise the main resources for the practical part in my thesis. In context of this thesis subject, there is a documentation of the main points in the current art scene, which deals with plant and landscape detail. The practical part is composed of the monumental triptych connected to the subject. This triptych is made of acrylic paint on canvas.
