Tagging a spoken learner corpus

The aim of the thesis is to propose a tagging system for a learner corpus of spoken English which would, apart from tagging errors, focus also on the features specific for spoken language. Theoretical part, therefore, introduces basic concepts including learner language, the development of learner corpora in the last 20 years and both classical and computer-aided error analysis. Features typical of spoken language are described in the theoretical part as well since these are the focus of the research part of the thesis. The Louvain tagging system used for error-tagging of a leaner corpus of written language is used as the basis for the tagging system proposed in this thesis. Based on the analysis of 20 transcriptions taken from the Czech part of spoken learner corpus LINDSEI, modifications of the categories taken from the Louvain error-tagging system are proposed and new categories necessary for a better description of spoken language are introduced. The tagging system proposed in this thesis should make further analysis of the tagged corpus easier.
Error Analysis of texts written by non-native speakers of Czech

The bachelor thesis deals with the use of language of non-native speakers of the Czech language - specifically students whose first language is Russian. The first part focuses on different approaches to language errors in terms of the theories which deal with the acquisition of the second language. In the second part, written texts of non-native speakers of the Czech language are analyzed by the method of error analysis. Errors are separately analyzed from a grammatical, morphologic, syntactic and lexicological perspective. Then errors are divided into categories and consequently described and interpreted. Interpretation of the errors takes into account the frequency of errors and focuses on intralingual errors and interlingual errors.

English Summary - Error Analysis of Czech Written Expression of the Romani Pupils in the 9th Grade of the Secondary Practical Schools Based on the Corpora ROMi Zuzanna Bedřichová ÚČJTK FFUK Prague 2014 The study is focused on practice of error making in written expressions of the Romani pupils in the 9th grade of Secondary practical schools (schools for children with special educational needs). Here 130 written school works of these pupils, which are available through the database ROMi (database of written and spoken accounts in Czech language of children and youth of Romani origin), have been analysed. The author offers innovative concept of new and elaborate scheme of error analysis, and qualitatively - quantitative analyses of the pupils' written accounts. Beside the qualitatively - quantitative analyses, the study outlines current situation of issues such as education of Romani children in the Czech language, the Romani ethnolect of Czech language, and spoken language as a source of stigmatisation. Furthermore, details about the ROMi database, 130 original written accounts in full length and practical proposals of compensation in the practice of error making are provided.
Implementing Machine Translation in an SME

The thesis deals with the topic of implementation of machine translation (MT) in an SME with an emphasis on legal translation. The theoretical part brings together the existing research relevant for this topic, focusing in particular on the specifics of MT between Czech and English, the task of post-editing (PEMT), including the skills and competences required from post-editors, recommendations for, and experience with, MT implementation, MT evaluation, PEMT productivity and translator attitudes towards MT. In its empirical part, the thesis draws on a case study of MT implementation in a Czech language service provider (LSP), with a focus on selecting a suitable MT tool and incorporating it in the workflow. Furthermore, an experiment is performed with professional translators, aimed at measuring productivity of translation and post-editing in terms of the time spent in the respective tasks and analysing and comparing selected aspects of the output produced by the translators and post-editors participating in the experiment. The analytical model employed is an error-based human evaluation model. The theoretical part describes the history of foreign language teaching, the theory of language acquisition, and language transfer. The practical part includes an analysis of written and spoken text, paying closer attention to the impact of language transfer on the appearance of errors.

The thesis Czech of a Non-Native Speaker is a case study which analyses the use of the Czech language by a non-native speaker coming from Kazakhstan. It contains an introduction which deals with the theory of second language acquisition and the importance of language transfer in this field. The second part of the thesis analyses the errors in several written and spoken texts (resp. their transcripts). Errors are analyzed from a phonetic, morphologic, grammatical, lexicological and syntactic perspective, they will be described and explained with an emphasis on the influence of interference. The conclusion summarizes the results of the analysis.

Czech of Slovak Speakers

Bachelor thesis Czech of Slovak speakers analyzes written texts of two native Slovak speakers in the Czech language on the basis of knowledge of language transfer, semicommunication and typology of linguistic errors. The first part is devoted to theoretical definition of the problem. The second part contains brief biographies of both participants, including the method of acquisition of Czech and its use, and delivers the results of error analysis of texts. Based on the review of the literature and the obtained data categories of errors occurring in Czech of Slovak speakers are created. The thesis provides an overview of anticipated and other errors in the texts of both speakers compared the incidence and description of selected problematic phenomena.
Design of precise bandgap reference in ACMOS process

In this thesis the principle of voltage reference especially bangap reference is described. Below are described two circuits of this type designed in ACMOS process. There is handmade evaluation of error analysis to identify main error contributors and also monte-carlo simulation. Also statistical analysis is made on the circuit. Results of all methods are compared. Error of reference voltage is compared for both circuits. Circuit with bigger error is optimized to achieve a better precision. Obtained results showed a good agreement of all methods, which evidences importance of hand error evaluation.
