Boundaries of Humour
Holada, Matouš ; Paulíček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Chylíková, Johana (referee)
This paper examines the phenomenon of controversial humor on the social networking site Facebook. Here there exist several entertainment pages, dedicated to the purpose of publishing and sharing comic material; most notably jokes in the form of humorous images. Sometimes, some of these jokes become a source of conflicts and a target of criticism by certain Facebook users, who consider them unacceptable. The present study therefore aims at examining the characteristics of these jokes, to help shed light on what is today considered inappropriate in the sphere of humor. For this purpose, an analysis of jokes and comments on them, left by their readers, was conducted on several Facebook pages. This research revealed the fact that jokes about current, medially covered disasters where the biggest source of controversies. Further inquiries into their nature then showed that aversion to this type of humor cannot be explained by applying superiority theory (contrary to certain other types of humor; for example ethnic or sexist jokes). The source of conflicts about disaster jokes is therefore seen in the clash of disparate views, held by Facebook users about the nature of norms, governing what is and what isn't acceptable to joke about. The conclusion to this paper then suggests possible directions for...

Hyperbole, Imagination and Tradition in Luigi Pulci's Morgante
Žáčková, Magdalena ; Pelán, Jiří (advisor) ; Flemrová, Alice (referee)
- Hyperbole, Imagination and Tradition in Luigi Pulci's Morgante The epic Morgante, compiled at the end of the 15th century by the poet Luigi Pulci, stands at the turn of two historical eras. It is a meeting point of the Middle Ages and Renaissance with their literary influences and ideas. Also, it reflects the change in the development stages of the genre: from the period when the heroic narrative was declaimed by minstrels (joglars) on squares, this subject matter was gradually introduced into royal courts, where it was influenced by a more elevated culture. The main elements of this epic include the adoption of several literary traditions, the comic in many of its forms, and religion, all of which is underlined with the special imagination of the author together with allusions to his own life situation. Luigi Pulci adopted not only the tradition of the heroic matter full of typical medieval patterns (topoi) very popular in Italy at that time, but also the comic-realistic literary tradition of Tuscany, which provides his narrative with a different tone in many ways, and thus incorporates Morgante in a literary field different from the one which its predecessors were part of. Orlando is the most significant of these; it is a text that was used by Pulci as a direct inspiration for his work and most...

Story Alone against all (Beerman) / comiks/
NOVÁK, Jan
This dissertation consists of two parts, the theoretical one and the practical one. In the theoretical part, I pay attention first to the terminology of comic, the questions of what the comic actually is and what are the rules which form the genre. Next, I look into the usage of comic in the art lessons and what approach should the teacher take when teaching how to make a comic book or comic strip. In the next part, I consider, what knowledge should a cartoonist have when drawing a comic strip. I also explain methods which I have used when inking my comic book. In every chapter, I mention significant persons who influenced the world of comic either from the theoretical or the practical point of view. The practical part consists of collection of sketches, anatomical studies and comic strips, which have been inked by India ink and colorized in computer.
