To the Phraseology of Elementary School Pupils
HAMPERGROVÁ, Zuzana
Topic of this diploma thesis is The Issue of Idioms at Upper Primary Schools. Phraseology is the integral part of daily communication that is why I decided to explore how pupils understand it. The theoretical part is based on publications of our leading linguists. The practical part studies not only the knowledge of idioms but also whether pupils understand it and if they are able to use them in sentences. The questionnaire consists of idioms, which have emerged as the examples in theoretical parts but also with the help of dictionaries of Czech phraseology and idioms.
Daniel Adam of Veleslavín and his dictionaries
Černá, Alena M.
Daniel Adam of Veleslavín is one of the most significant figures in Czech cultural history and is included the school curriculum, yet there is minimal scholarly literature on his life and work. There are not even any existing modern editions of his dictionaries. In addition, information on these dictionaries is often incorrect, for example, the frequent claim that his quadrilingual dictionary Nomenclator quadrilinguis, Boemico-Latino-Graeco-Germanicus (Prague 1598) is merely another version of his earlier trilingual dictionary, published as Nomenclator omnium rerum propria nomina tribus linguis, Latina, Boiemica, Germanica explicata continens (Praha 1586), expanded to include the Greek language. This article provides convincing evidence that these are two independent and newly created works with differing templates. The older Nomenclator is based on the dictionary by the Dutch physician, historian and philologist Hadrian Junius, while the younger one is a reworked version of the dictionary by the German scholar Helfricus Emmelius. The two works vary immensely in both the macrostructure and microstructure of their entries. The Czech language sections of the two dictionaries also vary and it is apparent that Daniel Adam did not automatically adopt the newer dictionary of his original work, rather, he revised it, altered it slighlty and improved it overall.
The reflection of space in the Czech vocabulary of the late Middle Ages
Nejedlý, Petr
The way the medieval people observed, interpreted and evaluated the space that surrounded them has been reflected also in the Old-Czech vocabulary – in designation of space, space relationships, operations in and with space, and in the word-formation motivation of many lexical units. From the pattern of lexical meanings and their semantic development it can be deduced which lexical units designing space and space relationships were central in the given period (cf. for example pút vs. cěsta – both path, road; journey), what was the hierarchy of the relevant concepts and their denomination (cf. povětřie - air; atmosphere; wind; weather vs. počěsie - suitable time; favourable weather; weather), and what was the extralinguistic reality (legal conventions – cf. veřějní - public, originally - placed on a door or gate; fight technique – cf. podvrci - forge, fake, foist, originally - push (weapon) under one's arm, etc.).
A Linguistic Analysis of a Baroque Historical Text
VESELÁ, Jaroslava
The topic of this diploma thesis is a linguistic analysis of a defined part of the first volume of Jan František Beckovský´s baroque chronicle. The theoretical level approaches the life of the author, it summarizes his works and introduces the chronicle called Poselkyně starých příběhů českých I written in 1700 itself. The analysis deals with the phonological and lexical levels of the chronicle in several thematic wholes. Less attention was paid to the morphological and stylistic levels. The syntactic structure of the chronicle was not analysed there. The thesis aims at discussing the basic phonological features of the high Baroque style language and presenting the vocabulary specifics of a historiographical text.
On Homonymy of the Old Czech Loans: Žejdl is not the Same as Žejdlík
Voleková, Kateřina
The Old Czech vocabulary was enriched by new words from foreign languages, especially from Latin and German. The loan coincides formally with a vernacular word or with a loan from another language. A parallel tendency to avoid such homonyms is demonstrated on the example of two formally similar words žejdlík and žejdl.

International vocaburaly as a chance of enlearging the vocabulary of Czech learning German native speakers
TESAŘOVÁ, Iva
This diploma thesis deals with the problematic of internationalisms and the possibility of their utilization in language education. It concerns broadening the vocabulary by internationalisms of German speakers learning Czech. The theoretical section is devoted to the history and perspectives of Czech language and especially it?s vocabulary. This section provides information about the current condition of foreign language education, and mentions The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which determines the modern schooling of languages. Furthermore, the work is interested in the problems and difficulties of adopting internationalisms. One chapter is dedicated to the, so called ?false friends? that complicate understanding between speakers of different languages. The practical section consists of a couple of thematic chapters into which the internationalisms are divided. In each section, there are model exercises that can be applied in Czech language schooling of foreigners. When selecting exercises, it is necessary to consider the grammatical ability of students. The work is concluded with a vocabulary of internationalisms gathered from the lexicon of different textbooks of Czech language for foreigners.

The Professional Speech and Slang of Musicians
NYKRÝNOVÁ, Markéta
The analysis of musicians{\crq} professional speech is the subject of this thesis. The main stress is put to the profiling of various ways the professional speech vocabulary is being enriched: by taking over expressions from foreign languages, semantic forming of lexical units (metaphor, metonymy) and creation of new words. Therefore, the attention is also focused on the word-building structure of the lexical units. Also, the presence or absence of the expressive token is being observed. The goal of the work is to draw attention to the vocabulary of musicians{\crq} professional speech from the linguistical point of view. The explanatory directory of terms used by musicians during excercise of their profession is the integral part of the work. For easier orientation, the index is also included.
