The master's thesis The Concept of Violence in Kobold, a Novel by Radka Denemarková inquires into a representation of violence in the selected literary text, written by a Czech author, from the perspective of gender analysis. Integral part of the master's thesis is the writing style "feminine writing", in which the double-novel Kobold is written. The analysis is carried out in the context of feminist literary theories. The work is therefore based on the concept of resistant reading, which is inseparably associated with the name of Judith Fetterley, and which allows us to examine the text without being influenced by the author's concept. Other inseparable pillars of this master's thesis are the works of literary theorists Pam Morris, Elain Showalter, Jan Matonoha and Hélène Cixous. The Analysis of Gender Relations and the Concept of Romantic Love in the Novel of Milan Kundera The Unbearable Lightness of Being

The diploma thesis discusses gender relationships, construction of romantic love, and questions of infidelity in the novel Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. These concepts are examined by means of feminist literary theories that deal with gender as an analytic category and that draw on resistant reading and reader response criticism as major theoretical and methodological points of analysis. The first analytical part focuses on the ways in which femininity and masculinity of the main characters are constructed within the context of patriarchal society under socialism. The second part of the analysis is devoted to various forms of love that appear among the characters. It investigates the role of these love schemes within the presented relationships and focuses on motives of infidelity while considering the gender identity of the characters. By employing gender analysis, this diploma thesis offers a new perspective that reflects on the reproduction of gender stereotypes and departs from existing interpretations of Kundera's major novel.

Gender-sensitive Literary Analysis of Richard Yates's novel The Revolutionary Road

In the thesis "Gender Literary Analysis of the novel Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates" a qualitative interpretative analysis with aspects of discourse analysis is used to interpret the plot and characters from a gender perspective. These interpretations are based on the "resistant reading" method introduced by Judith Fetterley. The literary analysis concepts introduced by Pam Morris and Elaine Showalter are also used as a point of reference. The aim for the application of Gender as a methodological category is to reveal and find new potential meanings and interpretations of the whole story and its characters with respect to their gender identity. The key areas that are focused on are motherhood, emancipation.

The Concepts of Motherhood and Fatherhood in Selected Novels by Petra Soukupová

Thesis The Concepts of Motherhood and Fatherhood in Selected Novels of Petra Soukupová will be through the tools of feminist literary theory analyze three contemporary novels of the Czech authoress- Pod sněhem (2015), K moři (2007) and Zmizet (2011). The basic analytical category will be gender, but equally important will be the concepts of motherhood and fatherhood, which interweave all three novels. An integral part of the thesis will be the method of resistant reading, which is based on the theory by Judith Fetterley. Resistant reading is an alternative to uninstructed or unreflected reading, in which a reader uncritically accept the author's concept of the text. The core of the resistant reading is, therefore, a critical examination of literary works and the formation of new critical meanings to androcentrism. Important building stones of the thesis will be the work of literary theorist Pam Morris and work of the literary theorist Jonathan Cullera. Images of femininity and masculinity in Ještěd Novels of Karolína Světlá

The subject of this thesis (Images of femininity and masculinity in Ještěd novels by Karolína Světlá) is a gender analysis of selected prose of Karolína Světlá, focused specifically on the works such as Vesnický román, Kříž u potoka, Frantina, Kantůrčice and Nemodlenec. The theoretical part presents basic principles, approaches and methods of the feminist literary theory including concepts focused on analyses of power and domination out of which I mostly use the work by Pierre Bourdieu. The theoretical part also contains positioning the writer's work within the literary-historical context and introducing source texts. The core of the thesis is a gender analysis based on my interpretation of texts and the method of resistant reading that concentrates on specific gender aspects in the entire series of works - the subject of my interest is creating masculinity and femininity (including gender attributes and roles or myths and archetypes), narration of the story from a gender perspective, forms of motherhood and fatherhood, topics of power, violence and sexuality. Attention is also paid to the motives of a victim or romantic love. Literary analysis of M. Viewegh's writing: A Novel For Women and Novel For Men from a gender perspective

This master thesis deals with feminist literary analysis of the works of writer Michal Viewegh, specifically his two prose novels Román pro ženy and Román pro muže using a method called resistant reading with a critical gender analysis and subsequent final comparison. This thesis consists of two parts, from the theoretical - methodological, which outlines the theoretical basis for the next analytical part. The key concepts are in the first part the researches of literary critics on Michal Viewegh, theories of Judith Fetterley, Elaine Showalter and Janice A. Radway. Furthermore, there are the theoretical basis of gender, and how gender stereotypes are constructed. This section is mainly based on the theorists Blanka Knotková - Čapková, Annis Pratt, Claire M. Renzetti and Daniel J. Curran and founder of analytical psychology Carl Gustav Jung. In describing femininity and masculinity are central lines theories of Naomi Wolf, Simone de Beauvoir and Pierre Bourdieu, Michael Kimmel and Robert Bly. The analytical part is the critical uncovering of gender stereotypes and power discourse. The conclusion is made by the final critical comparison of both novels. Gender literary analysis of novel Němci by Czech author Jakuba Katalpa focusing on the concepts motherhood and parenthood

In the diploma thesis Gender Literary Analysis of the novel Němci by Jakuba Katalpa focusing on the motherhood and the parenthood is a gender literary analysis of the novel Němci by the Czech writer Jakuba Katalpa. The thesis focuses on the motherhood, fatherhood, respectively parenthood and how are these phenomenon established within the concrete society: as essentialist, that means biologically, versus the constructivist, therefore socially constructed paradigm. In my thesis I use qualitative interpretative analysis with aspects of discourse analysis and feminist literary theory. Using gender as a analytical cathegory as a methodological category, I try to find and uncover new interpretations and meanings of the book Němci and try to find alternative interpretations of plot and characters. Methodological-theoretical part on the basis of literature introduces the basic terms in use (gender, patriarchy, literary canon, feminism, feminist literary theory), with the help of several writers and authors (Terry Eagleton, Pam Morris, Elaine Showalter). The next part of the thesis pays attention to the concepts of motherhood (Zuzana Kiczková, Sara Ruddick, Elisabeth Badinter, Hana Hašková) and fatherhood (R. W. Gender in compulsory reading - Old greek myths and legends: gender analysis of the writing

This thesis Gender in compulsory reading - Old Greek Myths and Legends: Gender analysis of the writing deals with literary representation of gender issues in mentioned writing, written by Eduard Petiška. The very analysis is based on analysing of gender topics and issues we are interested in and focused on. These topics are compared and showed using examples from particular myths and legend. The question whether these topics are influenced by patriarchal order in the society is the crucial for this thesis. Despite the variability of Petiška's writing, which is necessarily caused by variations of ancient and continuously construated stories; some patterns and systems are there to be found and explored by contemporary gender theories, mostly by feministic literature criticism. In this thesis the method of resisting reading according to Judith Fetterley is used. The deconstruction of the text and its hidden values which are based on male domination and the reconstruction of it in order to show the new perspective at the same moment are the main goals of resisting reading. Gender analysis of chosen novels of Miloš Urban

This diploma thesis A Gender Analysis of Selected Novels of Miloš Urban researches two concrete literary texts, novels Sedmikostelí and Lord Mord, which are analysed from gender perspective. By using two methods, feminist "resisting reading" and discursive analysis, there are uncovered various ways of female's characters construction, which are put in the social and cultural context. Theoretically the work is patterned on Judith Fetterley's concept, which was created during second wave of feminism, and it is connected to new poststructuralist and deconstructivist approaches. In this theses literature is perceived as space of impressing and encountering different discourses. Senses, categories and relations, incuding gender relations, are deconstructed in this space. This theses's core is the analysis of different categories and forms of femininity, which are reproduced in Urban's texts. It tries to show the possibility to read literary text "against the hair" and to not succumb to its interpellations. In this way it stresses personality of reading individual and his/her ability to complete/reshape text during every single process of reading and to produce new senses and categories. Helimadoe and Petrolejové lampy: A gender analysis of Jaroslav Havlíček's novels

The master thesis Helimadoe and Petrolejové lampy: A Gender Analysis of Jaroslav Havlíček's Novels examines selected texts and conveys gender-focused interpretations. The analysis of both of Havlíček's novels is carried out within the context of feminist literary theories. The main methodological and theoretical foundations of the thesis are "resisting reading" as introduced by Judith Fetterly and Jonathan Culler's "reading as a woman". Since the thesis is also a qualitative sociological analysis, it uses the processes of discourse analysis as well. The text focuses on the issue of power relations and their gender dimension, on the construction of gender and gender identity of individual female and male characters, on their sexuality, on their gendered activities and on the description and interpretation of the environment that the literary characters inhabit. A special attention is primarily (but not only) paid to main female characters and their revolt against the patriarchal system of the society. In relation to this problem the thesis necessarily deals with the topic of the gender social order and it shows what influence this order has along with other factors on the lives of individual characters.
