The use of Horticultural Therapy in Work with Seniors

This diploma thesis deals with the theme of horticultural therapy in the Czech Republic. The thesis is especially focused on the utilization of this therapy with seniors. The theoretical part contains chapters dealing with age, needs, and horticultural therapy, which is an effective way of meeting the needs of the elderly. The horticultural therapy is presented from the historical point of view. In addition the state of the horticultural therapy in Czech Republic is described in general. Furthermore this chapter describes the usage of the horticultural therapy abroad. Key features of the horticultural therapy are presented in order to ensure effectiveness of this method. Therapeutic gardens are defined in this part, as well as key differences between horticultural therapy and other generally used therapeutic approaches. The research is based on semi-structured interviews with relevant persons in the Czech Republic. The interviews were conducted with three groups of people. The first group consists from individuals who are mainly oriented in the theoretical level of horticultural therapy. In the theoretic part, the work gives the leader a view into the literáty overview within the field of elementary-school gardens, thein history and contemporary legislative framework which influences thein today´s look. The focus is on continuously more and more popular tendencies aiming on the human-nature relationship and an extension of such a relation into ecology, physiology, psychology, sociology and didactics. The work hints advantages of outdoor education and school activities, it shows us possibilities of founding an outdoor classroom and offers the reader an insight of already existing examples in the Czech Republic as well as abroad. In the practical part, the author offers solution of realization of a school garden in a chosen area; furthermore it incorporates principles of a naturalistic garden. The design of the chosen project is based on the author´s experience as well as data collected from the school pupils. The concept is extended by thematic level stimulating fantasy of child volunteers.
Natur Garden in Kindergarden

I devoted in the diploma thesis a theme natural gardens in kindergarten, which is starting gaining popularity in Czech republic from abroad's model. I define in theoretical section how the garden should look like and also significance of environmental effects on child's personality development. And I approximate history of open-air teaching. I describe into the details process creating garden in natural style and her elements focusing on plants, especially trees and shrumbs. The work includes also practical experience from process of creating natural gardens in selected kindergarten. I mention at the end of theoretical section options for funding garden. I based research section on questionnaire method and I evaluated data qualitatively. I had adressed kindergarten teachers throughout Czech republic by online questionnaire. 302 respondents answered. The object of research section was to find facts relate climbing children the trees between kindergarten teachers throughout Czech republic. I analyzed the obtained data and after I evaluated them. I found that children are usually not allow to climb the trees on garden in kindergarten (75,1% respondents). This diploma thesis deals with a utilization of school gardens for education at primary schools. It draws on historical development of school gardens and tries to emphasize an importance of their incorporation into an educational process, their positive impact on health and growth of pupils, and improvement of their skills and knowledge. Thesis also analyses relationships with Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education. Research itself deals with current state and utilization of school gardens by primary school teachers at Kolin district. It focuses on a school garden ownership, frequency of their usage, personal experience and needs of teachers for giving lectures in gardens. It also discusses areas of education for which the gardens are mostly used. Topic of my work is options of using different kinds therapy in range country tourism. This work I chose because I am interested both in nature and animals which can help people. In my work I will deal with particular sorts of therapy and their history. Next I will focus on special farms and communities running different sort of therapy in Highlands region. I will suggest various options future development and potential using other kinds of therapy in range country tourism. I will focus most on Canistherapy and Gardentherapy.
