Text Analysis in Specialized Translation: Accuracy and Error Rate

Práca sa zameriava na prieskum a aplikáciu metód textovej analýzy, strojového prekladu na vyhodnotenie kvality technických textov, preložených práve pomocou strojového automatického prekladu. Praktická časť využíva tieto metódy na implementáciu algoritmu pre identifikáciu a klasifikáciu chýb. Ďaľšou časťou praktickej časti je aj aplikácia a natrénovanie neurónového modelu pre korekciu týchto chýb. Porovnanie chybovosti a presnosti prekladu rôznymi prekladačmi je potom preukázané nie len kvalitatívne, ale aj kvantitatívne pomocou štandartných metrík.
Bilingual Dictionary Based Neural Machine Translation

Vývoj v oblasti strojového překladu v posledních několika letech ukázal, že moderní neuronové systémy strojového překladu jsou schopny poskytovat výsledky vynikající kvality. Pro získání takového systému je však zapotřebí velké množství paralelních trénovacích dat, která nejsou pro většinu jazyků k dispozici. Jedním ze způsobů zlepšení kvality strojového překladu pro low-resource jazyky je augmentace dat. Tato práce zkoumá úlohu neuronového strojového překladu založeného na bilingválních slovnících, jejíž základem je použití augmentační techniky umožňující generování zašuměných dat na základě bilingválních slovníků. Mým cílem bylo prozkoumat možnosti systémů založených na této metodě na různých jazykových párech a za různých výchozích podmínek a následně porovnat získané výsledky s výsledky tradičních neuronových systémů strojového překladu.
Current trends in translation technologies

The thesis summarizes available literature about translation technologies. The history of machine translation is extensively talked about and offers varying viewpoints on machine translation from different countries. Main approaches toward machine translation are provided, with examples of function for each one. Some of the most popular machine translators are showcased. A brief summary of translation evaluation is given and computer-assisted translation and its tools are explained extensively. Advantages and disadvantages of these systems is also talked about. The shift in the translation profession is also presented. Lastly, the practical part focuses on the importance of the human element and post-edit in current translation technologies.
Translation of selected lexical units with tools supporting machine translation - focused on concepts from legal terminology.

Master thesis entitled "Translation of selected lexical units by tools supporting machine translation - focused on concepts from legal terminology." In the theoretical part, it first deals with translation as such, then with the translation of legal texts, the specifics of legal language and last but not least the use of computer tools for the translation of legal lexis. The experiment in the practical part evaluated the automatic translation of single-word, multi-word and template language legal terms by selected machine translators.
Evaluation of machine translation from French to Czech depending on the type of the text

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to test and to evaluate the quality of machine translation from French to Czech depending on the type of the text, using free - Microsoft, Bing Translator and Google Translate. The work contains three parts. The first, theoretical part is divided into several chapters which are focused on the history and use of the machine translation, introduction to basic strategies of machine translation (Rule-Based Machine Translation, Statistical Machine Translation, Hybrid Machine Translation, Neural machine translation), development and history of online machine translation, presentation of two online translators - Microsoft Bing Translator and Google Translate. Furthermore, first part proposes an introduction to the MT evaluation, which is divided into human evaluation methods and automatic evaluation metrics. Finally, theoretical part includes the development and division of different functions of text in the Czech language. The second, methodological part contains the hypothesis of success of the machine translation. Furthermore, this part presents ten texts, which are analysed in the third part and their brief characterisation. Finally, there is a model of evaluation for the practical part. The last, practical part includes the evaluation of Google 's and Bing's translations using the automatic evaluation system - BLEU.
Machine Translation Technology

Cílem této bakalářské práce je prozkoumat různé typy technologií strojového překladu a historii strojových překladů od 90. let 20. století. Práce se zaměřuje na hlubší analýzu statistického strojového překladu (SMT), stručnou specifikaci neuronového strojového překladu (NMT) a také na dva typy NMT – rekurentní neuronové sítě (RNN) a konvoluční neuronové sítě (CNN). Další část této práce se zabývá třemi aplikacemi, které využívají neuronový strojový překlad – Google Translate, DeepL a SYSTRAN. Tato výzkumná práce se také zabývá hodnocením strojového překladu (BLEU, WER, METEOR, TER, ROGUE).
Rich Features in Phrase-Based Machine Translation

In this thesis we investigate several methods how to improve the quality of statistical machine translation (MT) by using linguistically rich information. First, we describe SemPOS, a metric that uses shallow semantic representation of sentences to evaluate the translation quality. We show that even though this metric has high correlation with human assessment of translation quality it is not directly suitable for system parameter optimization. Second, we extend the log-linear model used in statistical MT by additional source-context model that helps to better distinguish among possible translation options and select the most promising translation for a given context.
Automatic post-editing of phrase-based machine translation outputs

We present Depfix, a system for automatic post-editing of phrase-based English-to-Czech machine trans- lation outputs, based on linguistic knowledge. First, we analyzed the types of errors that a typical machine translation system makes. Then, we created a set of rules and a statistical component that correct errors that are common or serious and can have a potential to be corrected by our approach. We use a range of natural language processing tools to provide us with analyses of the input sentences. Moreover, we reimple- mented the dependency parser and adapted it in several ways to parsing of statistical machine translation outputs. We performed both automatic and manual evaluations which confirmed that our system improves the quality of the translations.
Machine Translation of Spoken English into Czech

Spoken language translation, the process of translating speech in one language into another language automatically, is in increasing demand as a means of overcoming the language barrier. In this thesis, we focus on translation of spoken English into Czech, employed as an aid for international tourists. We built a fully functional speech translation system using freely available components and used it for collecting samples of user input. We then focused on replacing the core components of the system, namely speech recognition (ASR) and machine translation (MT), with our own, domain-adapted models. In this thesis, I am presenting several methods of Czech-to-Russian ma- chine translation, including both historical approaches and more modern ones, and including both phrase-based and rule-based systems. I am rst brie y describing the linguistic background of Czech and Russian, and their common history and di er- ences. en, I am describing automating, building and improving some o he ma- chine translation systems, together with their comparison, using both an automated metric and a limited human annotation. Meanwhile, I am also describing the creation of a several corpora of Czech-Russian parallel data and Russian monolingual data.
