Theme and Motifs of Sexual Indentity in Selected Novels by Jeanette Winterson
Čampulová, Radka ; Chalupský, Petr (advisor) ; Higgins, Bernadette (referee)
The aim of this Bachelor's thesis is to analyse selected works by the contemporary British author Jeanette Winterson from the perspective of sexual identity and its construction. Two of her novels will be used for demonstration - Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit (1985) and Written On the Body (1992). Apart from the examination of these motifs it will try to discover possible interconnections between them. Main constituents of this thesis are the theoretical part, which provides a brief description of women and lesbian literature in the second half of the 20th century, and the practical part in which the analysis is performed.
Development and formation of women's identity from psychological point of view
Borská, Alice ; Šulová, Lenka (advisor) ; Junková, Vendula (referee)
The theme of this thesis is women's identity and a process of its development and formation. We specify theoretical basis through which it is possible to approach this subject. The theoretical part also pays attention to the process of biological differentiation of gender, to the question of a gender socialization and describes basic theoretical conceptions of development and formation of a sexual and gender identity which can be possibly found within the frame of psychology. The qualitative research enables to look at women's identity by the view of women themselves. Specific topics of an everyday lived experience appear from the analysis of interviews and these topics could be investigated deeper.
Male role and its developement in society
VLÁČILOVÁ, Hana
The thesis deals with the male role and its development in society, whereas this issue has been currently widely discussed. For this reason, the main objective of this thesis is to indicate the evolution of the male role in the past and its impact on the current state of masculinity in partnerships and family relationships. A sub-objective is to compare the male roles in a partnership and a family with a generational gap The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the male role at the present time, more particularly with the crisis of masculinity and the social pressures on men, the terms such as sexual identity and gender identity are defined and a substantial part is devoted to the transmission of malehood in education, the relationship between father and son and a crisis of fatherhood. Equally significant is the section focused on the role of a male partner ? a husband. The theoretical part ends with a chapter in which men´s movements in the Czech Republic are briefly described. The information needed to carry out the empirical part were obtained by the qualitative research technique, semi-structured interviews with men divided by age into two groups, which allowed comparison of views of two generations. The topic of the research was the comparison of respondents' opinions on the development of male roles, changes in male roles in partnerships and a family and the influence of the fathers´ absence in shaping the male role. The results point out the similarities and differences in opinions of the two age groups of men on the above- mentioned topics. This comparison provides some food for thought, and outlines possible explanations of a masculinity crisis. The outcomes of the thesis may be a valuable information source for all men who seek their masculine identity and have been confronted with problems in their partnerships or family lives. This thesis also can help women to better understand men. In addition, it could be beneficial to teaching gender issues or sociology of the family.
