Web Portal for Network Traffic Reporting
Zapletal, Petr ; Straka, Martin (referee) ; Tobola, Jiří (advisor)
This thesis deals with the design and implementation of web portal with reports about network traffic. This system is designed for easy network monitoring with transparent charts a tables. To obtain statistics from network traffic, NetFlow technology, which is the key part of system, is used. Portal is platform independent and is built around HTML and PHP technologies. Portal also allows export proccessed data through periodic email service or files in PDF format.
Protecting Local Network Using NetFlow
Hanousek, Vít ; Polčák, Libor (referee) ; Matoušek, Petr (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the use of NetFlow data for monitoring local networks. There is an analysis of the best known threads for a local network in the first part of the thesis. Detection algorithms based on signature NetFlow detection were implemented for the chosen threads. Four plugins for an open-source application NfSen are outputs of this thesis. These plugins detects the following threads: vertical and horizontal scans, dictionary based attacks on SSH protocol, spam machines.
Detection of Peer-to-Peer Communication
Letý, Pavel ; Kováčik, Michal (referee) ; Bartoš, Václav (advisor)
This thesis is focused on issues in detection of P2P network from NetFlow. In the theoretical part of this work are introduced actual techniques in detection of this communication in network. There are presented their advantages and disadvantages too. The biggest attention is focused on the classification scheme of Mr. Bashir which deals with a detection of a protocol BitTorrent and a Skype application from Netflow. Following this scheme is designed a detection module for a modular system of a traffic analysis Nemea, developed by Cesnet organization. In the practical part of this work is introduced the implementation of this module. There are also presented results of experiments with real data.
VoIP Quality Analyzer
Havelka, Ondřej ; Žádník, Martin (referee) ; Tobola, Jiří (advisor)
This master thesis deals with the design and implementation of an application for analyzing Voice over IP quality using NetFlow. In the beginning, there is summarized basic information about VoIP technology and NetFlow - its principles, the most used protocols, factors that have influence on call quality and call quality rating methods. Later there is presented proposal of application and then described its implementation. The created application was tested on samples, which simulate calls in network with delays and packet-loss. Within testing was made the comparison with commercial application and the results are discussed.
Similarity Searching in Network Data
Hud, Jakub ; Krobot, Pavel (referee) ; Wrona, Jan (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is interested in analyzing IP flow records. IP flow record contains IP flow metadata of specific network communication such as IP addresses, port numbers, network protocol numbers and other. Main goal is to design and implement metrices to determine similarity of NetFlow records. At the beginning of this thesis is description of how to analyze great amount of data. Next there are shown network monitoring technicies and NetFlow. Other parts of this thesis are dedicated to design and implementation of data analysis using DBSCAN algorithm. Implementation of data analysis application is also part of this thesis. As a result, the application can be used to network scan detection using NetFlow data although the results are not very clear and contain a lot of legitimate communication.
Web Portal for Network Traffic Reporting
Krebs, Lukáš ; Straka, Martin (referee) ; Tobola, Jiří (advisor)
The thesis deals with creating a web portal for generating statistics about the network traffic. There is presented the NetFlow technology, which is used in this thesis. Then there is described tho whole development process from analysis, design and implementation of the system to its testing. The whole program is created in languages XHTML, CSS, PHP and uses a MySQL database for a data storage. For a data mining is used NfDump.
Extending NetFlow Records for Increasing Encrypted Traffic Classification Capabilities
Šuhaj, Peter ; Jeřábek, Kamil (referee) ; Holkovič, Martin (advisor)
Master's thesis deals with selection of attributes proper for classification of encrypted traffic, with the extension of NetFlow entries with these attributes and with creating a tool for classify encrypted TLS traffic. The following attributes were selected: size of packets, inter-packet arrival times, number of packets in flow and size of the flow. Selection of attributes was followed by design of extending NetFlow records with these attributes for classifying encrypted traffic. Extension of records was implemented in language C for exporter of the company Flowmon Networks a.s.. Classifier for collector was implemented in language Python. Classifier is based on a model, for which training data were needed. The exporter contains the classifying algorithm too, the place of the classification can be set. The implementation was followed by creation of testing data and evaluation of the accuracy. The speed of the classifier was tested too. In the best case scenario 47% accuracy was achieved.
Methods for measurement of data network performance and quality parameters
Sukup, Luboš ; Zeman, Václav (referee) ; Novotný, Vít (advisor)
Master thesis involves the development of quality measurement issues and performance parameters in data networks. It describes the main technologies as they affect the quality and performance parameters and the effect of these parameters for voice, video and data services. Next are listed some methods for measuring parameters of the data network. In the practical part is selected one method of measuring network parameters and properties of this method are demonstrated by illustrative examples.
Detection of Cryptocurrency Miners Based on IP Flow Analysis
Šabík, Erik ; Krobot, Pavel (referee) ; Žádník, Martin (advisor)
This master’s thesis describes the general information about cryptocurrencies, what principles are used in the process of creation of new coins and why mining cryptocurrencies can be malicious. Further, it discusses what is an IP flow, and how to monitor networks by monitoring network traffic using IP flows. It describes the Nemea framework that is used to build comprehensive system for detecting malicious traffic. It explains how the network data with communications of the cryptocurrencies mining process were obtained and then provides an analysis of this data. Based on this analysis a proposal is created for methods capable of detecting mining cryptocurrencies by using IP flows records. Finally, proposed detection method was evaluated on various networks and the results are further described.
Memory Reduction of Stateful Network Traffic Processing
Hlaváček, Martin ; Puš, Viktor (referee) ; Kořenek, Jan (advisor)
This master thesis deals with the problems of memory reduction in the stateful network traffic processing. Its goal is to explore new possibilities of memory reduction during network processing. As an introduction this thesis provides motivation and reasons for need to search new method for the memory reduction. In the following part there are theoretical analyses of NetFlow technology and two basic methods which can in principle reduce memory demands of stateful processing. Later on, there is described the design and implementation of solution which contains the application of these two methods to NetFlow architecture. The final part of this work summarizes the main properties of this solution during interaction with real data.
