Emil Filla and China
Pecháčková, Emma ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Pejčochová, Michaela (referee)
It is well known about Emil Filla (1882-1953) that he was passionate about collecting non-european art. During his life he tried to find some kind of universal language which would allow him to connect the artistic styles of different cultures from all around the world. Filla sacrified a huge part of his life to studying chinese art, which became popular in Europe in the beginning of 20th century. Filla did not only frequent Asian art exhibitions, he himself owned many artistic objects and Chinese ink paintings. Thanks to studying books and paintings he became familiar with philosphy and media typical for Chinese landscape painting. The most obvious evidence of Chinese influence is the thin and long form of painting, use of ink and the illusion of timeless atmosphere, eternity and infinity. The result of this are wider landscapes which differ greatly to the rest of traditional Western landscape painting. The landscapes from České středohoří were Filla's last works. He had them painted at the very end of his life around the 1950s, when art was under the control of government authorities. These landscapes from České středohoří are unique and they are definitely not the perfect example of social-realistic painting which was popular by this time. Filla's aim was more about spiritual value for the artist...

Charvát, Ondřej ; Stibral, Karel (advisor) ; Dadejík, Ondřej (referee)
3 ABSTRACT Humankind in its whole being is reflecting an environment by culture and visual art. Different cultural periods value nature and environment differently, what have a strong impact on nature management - some culture periods have a strong feeling for protecting nature for its own value while others see nature just as a source of materials or energy. This relationship is possible to find in art artifacts made during particular culture period. The communistic idea was ruling for almost half of the twentieth century in former Czechoslovakia. And its point of view has strong negative impact on state of nature and environment. As an official style of art socialist realism was approved at the same time. Its main goal was portraying a new communistic world, new communistic society and new communistic man. Aim of this work is to find out how the socialistic realism displays nature and landscape topic in art pieces. In core of this work stays the assumption, that socialistic realism has no value for nature itself, on the contrary it appreciates only it's rebuilding for easier exploitation. Findings are based on study of theoretical art texts and art-pieces from the period 1945 - 1958. Keywords: nature, landscape, aesthetic, art, socialist realism, landscape painting

The landscape painting was a respectufull and popular branch already from the beginning of the respective period, yet since then it grew into a leading source of aesthetic innovations and dominant component of the exhibitions and art trade. The 1840-1890 period begun with the establishing Max Hushofer's landscape class at the Prague Academy of Arts and terminates with close contacts with impressionists. For local landscape painting it brought not only the dramatic rearrangements of aesthetical frameworks but also the subsequent establishment of the standard cliches and themes which further accompanied Czech landscape painting until present.
