American jazz diplomacy and the Czechoslovak Socialist Society
Vlášek, Jakub ; Calda, Miloš (advisor) ; Perutka, Lukáš (referee)
This thesis is focused on the activity of American jazz diplomacy in countries of the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War era. It follows the historical development of US jazz diplomacy and highlights its most important protagonists, the so-called jazz ambassadors, who were not only fighting against Communism through the medium of jazz music but also helping to create the positive image of US culture in the world. The primary aim of this thesis is to analyze the tolerance of the ruling regime towards American jazz music, as an instrument of cultural diplomacy, in the fifties and sixties of former Czechoslovakia. At the same time, it tries to find the reasons and preconditions which all led to organizing concerts of American jazz ambassadors, despite the negative attitude of the communist party towards jazz music. The author concludes that the communist authorities could use the concerts of African-American jazzmen in their own propaganda, emphasizing American racial segregation. Jazz music was also much more bearable for the Communists to let in in comparison to other new musical genres because it did not incite revolt.

Methodology of jazz drumming
Urbánek, Marek ; SLEZÁK, Kamil (advisor) ; ŠOLTIS, Daniel (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to analyze the methodical procedure of teaching percussion instrument performace in the context of jazz music. The absence of a similar work - in the domestic area, which would summarize the basic, yet crucial practices in a comprehensible whole was one of the main inspirations for this thesis. The first chapter describes the context and the process of formation of the drum set. The next chapter introduces the notation of jazz music and the way it is different from phrasing in practice. The next chapters deal with the various approaches to playing the ride cymbal, hi-hat and the bass drum. These chapters contain practical exercises. Next I point out the importance of drums as an accompanying instrument. The chapter on transcription tells readers how to handle new material and how to be able to work with it further. In the seventh chapter I present coordination exercises, which I have completed and compiled with this work. The last chapter deals with the analysis of Jim Chapin's Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer.

Integration of jazz elements in my compositional work
Horká, Kateřina ; FILAS, Juraj (advisor) ; Tóth, Miroslav (referee)
Abstract This Bachelor thesis is focused on the integration of jazz elements in my classical music compositions. For the whole 20th century, the combination of jazz and classical music was a subject of discussions in a musical society. From the origins of jazz, some compositions were combined and subsequently influenced by classical music. This approach still remains in a certain group of composers to this day. The first movement is represented by the composers of the early 20th century, including French Impressionists e.g. Maurice Ravel, Les Six - Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc and Arthur Honneger. We should not forget to mention Igor Stravinskij. In our land, these trends can be found in works of Bohuslav Martinů, Erwin Schulhof and especially in works of Jaroslav Ježek. The second movement of these trends began in the 60s and it was called "The Third stream". In our country it is represented by Alexej Fried, Pavel Blatný, Milan Svoboda and others. The idea of synthesis of jazz and classical music is still current to this day, many composers consider it their compositional basis. Over the course of the 20th century there was a great style diversification in a popular music and so over the time the synthesis of other styles with classical music appeared. It is a very broad topic. That is the reason why I would like to focus on my compositional work influenced by jazz.
