Architecture of home

The thesis is based on monitoring how one represents, creating an environment, how one completes it, or how the human environment is created. When we ask ourselves what our home means for us, we knew we could give it the shape of space. We could describe it as a place where we like to be. Some questions arise. If there is any idea of living at home, if it is as personal, how does each of us perceive home in his intimacy as well? How did it become the architecture itself? The goal of the work is to translate the understanding of the home through a specific situation. I choose a village in Slovakia, Čechynce, which has more than 1000 inhabitants. The architectural design itself does not adapt to the creation of a home as a house. He wants to point out that the home is not in an isolated system of walls, but in an ability of distence and in a chance to return again.

Self-Sufficient Home for 9000 Inhabitants

The objective of this diploma project is to propose a new self-sufficient city for 9000 inhabitants. The city as a phenomenon accompanying mankind for centuries has become an integral part of a physical and cultural heritage of our civilization. Accumulation of its population, ideas and material possessions always led to the remarkable act of creativity and efforts, that was always pushing mankind further. Nowadays cities are faced with a myriad of crises, both economic and social. However we shouldn't forget, with a view to the future, the impending ecological crisis. The rapid growth of the past is followed by a gradual decay in the current age. Moreover, in today's globalized society, the town becomes materially totally dependent on its surroundings. It drains resources from less developed land to feed its inhabitants. We can hardly predict consequences that would arise if these resources were cut off. With the precipitous pace of urban growth and migration of the world's population into densely urbanized areas* arise to us a question, if in these non-urban (agricultural) areas will be still somebody, who will nourish these future metropolis? * (since 2010, more than a half of the world population lives in cities) The aim to create a new self-sufficient city isn't a kind of compensation for contemporary cities, but an attempt to create a working model that would be generally applicable on a present towns. It should hint the way, which they could take to achieve self-sufficiency, less dependence on imports, functional community life reinforcing a higher unity and sophisticated environmental legacy for future generations. The goal of these efforts is not a "moving the population into this model city", but the movement of ideas from model town into existing cities.

Expats and the "Wall of Czechness": An Ethnography of Expat Spaces in Prague

This research project explores the notion of spaces and place-making of expat women living in Prague. Using the metaphor of a "wall of Czechness", this paper identifies why perceptions of living in a given space matter, as these perceptions affect how one interacts with the spaces around them. This metaphorical "wall" thus identifies why expat women find and create their own expat communities for socialization in Prague. As such, online platforms, such as Facebook, aid in creating designated women-only spaces, that facilitate both online and offline interactions. This helps in the creation of place-belongingness, especially for expat women who move to Prague on their own account. This work calls attention to the importance of various spaces associated with place-making in this context: safe spaces, private and public spaces, counter-public spaces and gendered spaces. It also highlights the importance of community- creation, and how communities can be understood and created for these expat women living abroad. The term "expat" itself has specific connotations, and whilst they fall under the category of migrants, the two terms hold very different meanings. Visual Composition in Time

Bachelor's thesis is a short subjective document, that is made up of my own footage, which I have been collecting for a long time until now. It captures the physical and social environment in which I have been moving in recent years. Through them, I try to portray my feelings about these environments, about constant movement through them and in general about neverending traveling in space-time. It is my way of thinking about where my safe space is, if it is one place or if there are more of them, or if I feel the best at the moment, when I travel and I am not grounded in any place.

Development of the concept of liminality in selected works of Salman Rushdie

The core of this thesis is capturing the concept of liminality in the past works of Salman Rushdie, specifically in novels The Satanic Verses, The Ground Beneath Her Feet and Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights. Selected characters and motifs of these novels reflect autobiographical elements, thus the aim of the thesis is to describe the transformation of the concept of liminality in chronological progression, where these novels represent three periods in which the author's perception of home and migration differ substantially from one another. The phenomenon of liminality is described within the frame of postcolonial literary theory and attention is therefore paid to the notion of "other" in relation to home and its cultural specificities, as well as in relation to the migrant's new homeland. The analysis of these works and their abstraction into three representative periods form a frame of reference for comparison with possible future works of the author.

The phenomenon of home and its importance for education

The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe the importance and significance of the home phenomenon in terms of the education of the human individual. The work captures the development of views on this issue from the perspective of ancient, Czech and world philosophers. The philosophy of the home will be further discussed from the point of view of Patočka and Lévinas. The work will also try to offer some answers to some current questions of society, which relate to the home and its loss. The issue of education and care for the soul are also discussed.

The Picture of an Ordinary Man in the Work of John Steinbeck and William Saroyan

The scope of this work will be a comparative analysis of selected texts of John Steinbeck and William Saroyan, two important American writers of the 20th century with focusing on the characteristics of main characters. Theoretical basis of the work will be based on a brief introduction of both authors and their work as well as on their approach to the literary-historical context. In this regard the work reminds the issue of naturalism, the question of determination and the mening of the American dream. The interpretation itself will focus on types of individual characters and their role in stories in relation with the theoretical background of the work.

Project of crisis preparedness for an epidemic in a home for the elderly

Title: Project of crisis preparedness for an epidemic in the home for elderly. Objectives: The aim of this bachelor thesis was to find out how the social services workers had been prepared for the COVID-19 epidemic based on their own experience. Methods: The questionare was created for this research. The respondents had the choice of several options in the multiple-choice questions ,which was given by the type of research question. For several questions respondents had the opportunity to extend the question with their own answer. The scale from 1 to 10 was used for answering to two questions and the scale from 1 to 5 was used for one question. Results: The result of this bachelor thesis is findings that at the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic social workers had not been prepared for this situation. The next waves of COVID-19 epidemic have highlighted the areas of the contingency plan that the social workers need to focus on in order to be better prepared for epidemic like COVID-19.
