ACTRIS IMP – participation of the Czech republic in the national research infrastructures and ACTRIS Central facilities.
Ondráček, Jakub ; Váňa, M. ; Klánová, J. ; Holoubek, Ivan ; Ždímal, Vladimír
ACTRIS (The Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure) is pan-european research infrastructure, having the main goals in provision of high quality scientific data and provision of information about short-lived atmospheric components and processes leading to changes in these components in natural and controlled laboratory environment. ACTRIS is a logical continuation of 15-years development of large research infrastructures being funded by member states and European Commission through the Research Infrastructure Programme (including e.g. EARLINET, EUSAAR, CREATE and CLOUDNET).

Vizualization of flow of fibers from insulation mineral wool
Kedajová, Kristýna ; Elcner, Jakub (referee) ; Lízal, František (advisor)
One of the most used insulation materials of our time is mineral wool. As with formerly used asbestos, not all the health impacts of mineral wool fibers inhalation are known. The aim of this thesis is to gather findings relating to the transport of aerosols, their deposition in human airways and to obtain and statistically evaluate experimental data from the visualization of fibres in the glass tube resembling human airways. This data can improve understanding of the relation between glass fibres action and possible health hazard.
Phenomenological models inspired by QCD and their use in the analysis of ultra-high energy cosmic rays
Ebr, Jan ; Řídký, Jan (advisor) ; Leitner, Rupert (referee) ; Unger, Michael (referee)
Cosmic rays of energies above 1014 eV are detected mostly indirectly, by observing the extensive air showers they create in the atmosphere. Multiple experiments suggest that the current models of high-energy interactions do not describe the cosmic ray data perfectly, in particular when it comes to the prediction for the number of muons at ground. We present two models aiming to improve the description of the muon component, one based on the addition of particles with small momenta in the local center-of-mass frame of the high-energy hadronic interactions in the shower, the other on the addition of the so-called dark photons to the electromagnetic part of the shower. While we find the latter having no observable consequences, the former improves the agreement between observed and predicted amounts of muons both for the DELPHI cosmic ray data and for the measurements by the Pierre Auger Observatory. We also describe the FRAM telescope, a device used to monitor the atmosphere at the Pierre Auger Observatory, and its applications to the search for anomalous shower profiles and to the measurement of the aerosol content of the atmosphere, which is crucial for the analysis of data obtained by fluorescence detectors. 1
Coupling atmospheric chemistry/aerosols to regional climate models
Huszár, Peter ; Halenka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Macoun, Jan (referee) ; Eben, Kryštof (referee)
Title: Coupling atmospheric chemistry/aerosols to regional climate models Author: Peter Huszár Department: Department of Meteorology and Environment Protection Supervisor: doc. RNDr. Tomáš Halenka, CSc. Supervisor's e-mail address: tomas.halenka@mff.cuni.cz Abstract: In this thesis, the connections between air quality and climate are studied. For this purpose, regional climate model RegCM3 and chemistry transport model CAMx has been coupled offline with one- and two-way interaction. Our work represents a first attempt to connect RegCM3 not only with CAMx, but with any other chemistry transport model. As a first step, an offline one way couple of RegCM3 and CAMx has been developed, meaning that the climate model drives the transport, emission, chemical transformation and deposition of species while the radiative feedbacks of gases and aerosols are not considered. A meteorological interface has been developed at our department in order to convert the meteorological data generated by RegCM3 to fields required by CAMx. For those parameters that are essential for CAMx but the regional climate model does not supply them, diagnostic methods were implemented into this interface. Further, it is used to calculate biogenic emissions. Regarding anthropogenic emissions, a simple utility has been developed to...
Changes in Sub-micron Number Size Distributions at Czech Rural and Urban Background Stations in the Last Ten Years.
Zíková, Naděžda ; Wagner, Zdeněk ; Ondráček, Jakub ; Ždímal, Vladimír
In the Czech Republic, long-term sub-micron measurement has been set up simultaneously at two background stations, almost ten years ago. The first station is Prague-Suchdol, an urban background station that started in 11/2007, the second is Košetice observatory, a rural background station starting its measurement in 4/2008.

Filtration efficiency of nonofiber cloth
Šimková, Kristýna ; Bělka, Miloslav (referee) ; Lízal, František (advisor)
In this bachelor thesis I deal with filtration efficiency of nanofiber cloth, which are determined by number of aerosol particles measured in front of the filter and behind the filter using APS. Aerosol particles are generated by CMAG. The next topic of this thesis is a search of particle filtration of micrometer size.
Monosaccharide anhydrides in atmospheric aerosols - optimization of separation and detection by means of LC-MS technique
Čmelík, Richard ; Coufalík, Pavel ; Mikuška, Pavel
We report a simple analytical method, based on high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometric detection, which was developed and utilized to determine monosaccharide anhydrides in atmospheric aerosols.
