Změlíková, Alžběta ; Aslan, Katarína (advisor) ; Průchová Hrůzová, Andrea (referee)
The Bachelor's thesis on the topic of Content Analysis of the presentation of Black Lives Matter movement in Czech media aims to construct an image of the Black Lives Matter movement based on two selected Czech media using qualitative content analysis. The chosen media are the on-line versions of the outlets Respekt and Echo, which were selected based on their political attitude and the fact that they are not solely news media, but authors add their own opinion and view. The studied sample consists of 38 articles published in the chosen media during 2020 and 2021 and is analysed based on grounded theory and a brief discourse analysis based on Allan Bell. The paper finds that the image of the movement differs between the two media outlets. Respekt's attitude toward the movement is consistent, the authors present it as a non- hierarchical protest movement and use neutral rhetoric for further description. Based on broader context (such as the overall tone of the articles or the choice of people that were interviewed on the topic), it is certain that Respekt supports the movement. In the case of Echo24.cz, an ambiguity in the overall attitude towards the movement can be seen which does not help create a clear image of BLM. Although, in most articles, the server speaks about the movement in rather...

'But it's only a children's book' - children's literature as a vehicle of manipulative ideological dissemination
Moravčíková, Hana ; Clark, Colin Steele (advisor) ; Beran, Zdeněk (referee)
The historical era between 1850 and 1950 is known to be a turbulent period reflected not only in adult literature but also in the texts written for children. This unusually rich period in terms of political, social and ideological development certainly influenced most parts of the world. However, it was particularly important for England mainly for the transition of the Victorian era and Edwardian period to the modern history initiated by the WW I. Throughout this period many new ideologies arose and scientific discoveries were more numerous than ever. In 1859, for instance, Darwin's On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection was published and initiated the still on-going war period between Christianity and science. At the same time, the concept of childhood started to be understood in a different way and books written for children became a common commodity converting the end of 18th century in the Golden Age of children's literature. However, according to Peter Hunt's publication Understanding Children's Literature, 'all texts are inevitably infused by ideologies'. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is firstly, to study the way in which ideologies are incorporated in the texts for children (overt or covert) and secondly, the extent to which the texts for children become a vehicle of...

Štěrbová, Lenka ; Sádovský, Stanislav (advisor) ; Stracený, Josef (referee)
Apart from the basic definitions used in the paper, the main objective of this bachelor thesis is especially mutual correlation of freedom of speech as the one of basic human rights and race extremism which is undesirable phenomenon in mature society. The first section is devoted to definition of term "freedom of speech" by means of legal regulation included both in Declaration of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms and international agreements. To specify freedom of speech exactly, it is necessary to consider its limitation in a series of documents which are also mentioned in the introductory section. The second section of the thesis is focused on the definition of another significant term often used in the thesis - race extremism. A part of this section is a smaller sub-section containing one of many cases of race attacks. The main reason for choosing this case was personal participation of the author of this thesis in the attack. The main objective of this sub-section is not only presentation of the actual case but application of theoretical knowledge in this concrete case. No other cases were chosen so that the thesis did not receive any unwanted causative contents. The next section deals with the relation between the two above mentioned terms by means of Criminal Code and its articles which...
African-American Women Leaders after 1950s
Rybková, Veronika ; Robbins, David Lee (advisor) ; Ulmanová, Hana (referee)
Thesis abstract The thesis attempts truthfully to illustrate a situation of black female leaders active in the United States of the second half of the twentieth century. In order to cover this period, four black women activists will be focused on as representatives of two different generations. On the one hand, Ella Baker and Fannie Lou Hamer will stand for the older generation because their activist careers culminated in the 1960s. On the other hand, Angela Davis and bell hooks will represent the subsequent decades as it was at that time when their careers matured. A comparison of the two generations will reveal considerable similarities in the four women's perspective on the nature of the struggle against white supremacy. It is necessary to bear in mind that this perspective was to a great extent influenced by a special kind of oppression the women faced as members of a marginalized group, that is, of the black community. Firstly, a detailed examination of the women's childhood and youth will show that it was already at that time when the four black women realized the presence of racism in their lives. Moreover, the focus on their background also introduces similar motives of the four women's decision to become active participants in the black community's struggle. Secondly, after the description of the...
