Inproving the quality of personal life of persons with mental disabilities

The bachelor thesis is focused on improving the quality of life of people with mental disabilities at schools and community organizations. It consists of theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part contains an explanation of mental retardation, socialization of people with mental disabilities, the area of education, social security for people with mental disabilities. The practical part is about activities of basic practical and special schools in the educational process and activities of charitable organizations. Experience course for improvement in communication of youth with mentally handicapped

This bachelor thesis addresses the opportunities for social communication development for mental handicapped youths who use the personal assistance social service. The means used for communication development are practical experience courses. A questionnaire was sued for research purposes which proves that personal assistance is used by clients mainly in a school environment and for escorts. Despite this fact, demand for practical experience courses from assistants is considerable. Almost all of them consider them to be an opportunity for their client to get to know their client better, thereby improving the quality of the social service provided. Other research focused on comparison of individual plans for the users of the personal assistance social service. This research confirmed the importance of the work of personal assistants who have a demonstrable influence on the development of communication and socialisation of people with a mental handicap. Controlled interviews with clients demonstrated that the common intense experiences enjoyed during the practical experience course, converted into life experience, can have a positive influence on the relationship between the assistant and client. Work with the Client´s Family Social Services

My thesis work deals with working with the family of a social services client. Social services can be defined as a set of activities to provide assistance to persons in unfavourable social situations. The main purpose of social services is to preserve human dignity and to encourage the given persons to pursue activities that do not protract or worsen their social situation (in other words, to prevent their social exclusion). People may find themselves in a difficult social situation for various reasons (e.g. because of age or poor health status). The most frequent social services users are seniors and persons with disabilities. With regard to the fact that in the future I would like to work in a job treating the above-mentioned target groups, I focused on them in my thesis. I suppose that mutual cooperation between a family and the staff in the social care providing facility can have a positive affect on the client himself. For this reason, I conceived my thesis in a broader context - a family, a social services user and a social services provider. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part describes all the important aspects related to a family, social services and basic characteristics of the Blansko district. In the practical part the target of the thesis was stated. I wanted to learn what problems most families face (not just prior to placing the client to a social services facility, but also in the course of the stay), what their experience with the facility is and whether they are informed about all available social services offered in the area. To compile the thesis quantitative research was applied. I used the method of questioning, the technique of structured interviews with family members of senior home clients and persons with mental disabilities attending a daycare stationary. The thesis could serve as information material on social services not only for families involved in my research, but also for the general public - to provide information about availability of social services for seniors and persons with mental disabilities in the Blansko district in the South Moravian Region.

The clients' quality of life in the Supportive Housing Centre in Jindřichův Hradec

There exist various oinions in relation to the mentally handicapped people in the society. It is necessary to become aware of that the handicapped people have the same needs and rights as the others because everybody is an original and irreproducible personality. If we want to think about the quality of the life, we can speak about the lifequality of an individual person or of a groupe of persons or perhaps about the lifequality of mentally handicapped people. The theoretical part of the degree work deals with the lifequality in general characterizes mentally handicapped people, thei needs and rights. In the practical part, the subjective evaluation of the lifequality by the clients in the establishment Social services Česká is ascertained. The aim of the degree work was to find out how the medium {--} seriously mentally handicapped people perceive the lifequality and satisfaction in their life. The research was effectuated in the form of semi-structured discussion. Further necessary information was obtained on the basis of secondary analysis of documents and by means of observation. The main research question was answerd on the basis of inermediate questions. The first intermediate question described how the needs of the clients are satisfied in the establishment. It was apparent from the research that the clients perceive the satisfaction of their needs positively. Unfortunately, the need of love is not satisfied for the most respondents and that due to the unstable family background. Teh second reserch question was concentrated on ascertainment how the establishment influences the lifequality of the clients. It is evident from the research that the establishment influences the lifequality of respondents positively and that thanks to mobilizing activities and to the efforts enabling these people to live a normal life to the greatest possible extent. The third intermedite question investigated the impact of the family on the clients. Due to the fact that the most repomdents come to see the family environment only occasionally or not at all, the answer to this question is negative. The lifequality of a great deal of respondents is not influenced by the family positively. In spite of this unpleasant fact the main research question reading {\clq}qHow the clients of the estabishment Social services Česká in Jindřichův Hradec perceive the quality of their life`` can be answered positively. Although the clients of the establishment have to face disadvantages because of their handicap, they consider the quality of their life to be a good one.
