The Enlightenment and its Impact on the National and Spiritual Formation of People in the Czech Lands during 18th and 19th Century

This master thesis deals with the spiritual progress pointing to a national self-awareness in the Enlightenment era from the beginning until 1848. The Enlightenment is an European phenomenon, which is characterized by a change of thinking, and self-awareness. This idea of tolerance and human emancipation contributed to the reforms of fundamental social, political and ecclesiastical changes. These changes result not only from a philosophical influences, but also from royal reforms during the reign of Maria Theresa and Joseph II in particular. This work is primarily devoted to the penal law in the Age of Reason in Europe and in the Czech lands especially. The author describes changes in the conception of the penal law. He stresses the new principles in the science of penal law and in penal codifications. Among these principles draws attention mainly to the equality and secularization of the penal law as well.
Army Deserters in the Era of the Enlightened Absolutism Regarding the Documents of the Czech Gubernium and Other Sources

This thesis deals with the issues of military deserters from the imperial-royal army at the period of the enlightened absolutism, thus during the reign of Maria Theresa and her sons Joseph II and Leopold II. Based on written as well as printed sources, originated mainly from the activity of the supreme provincial offices of the Kingdom of Bohemia at this time, an explanation on the questions of deserters' punishments, their limited pardons and mutual exchanges, made between the Habsburg Monarchy and her allies, has been offered. Moreover, the attention has been paid to the state's approach to the inhabitants that either provided aid to the deserters, or vice versa participated in their pursuit and capture. The last part of the text has been devoted to the registries of military deserters who originated from Bohemia, with the main emphasis on the Seven Years' War, because these registries have been preserved mostly for this conflict. Social policy in the Habsburg monarchy during the reign of Maria Theresa and Joseph II. (1740 - 1790).

The thesis deals with development of social policy during the reign of Maria Theresa and Joseph II. The first part describes the government and the political development of the Habsburg monarchy from the beginning of the Thirty Years' War to the Maria The-resa´s ascension to the throne. The second part deals with the problems of reign of Maria Theresa in the context of the era and her effort to maintain the monarchy. It analyses the conditions for creating the new reforms and the process of social policy formation. The third part describes the implementation of the new reforms to specific areas of life and their development. It analyses the transformation process of the Habsburg monarchy and its social policy during the common reign of Maria Theresa and Joseph II and it also analyses the influence of absolutist reign of Joseph II to the monarchy, its industry, culture and social reforms.
The Enlightenment Reforms in Buquoy Dominion as Historical Roots of Social Pedagogy

The thesis considers the education system development and gradual forming of social care in Bohemia in the 2nd half of 18th century. It tracks the reform of these areas from its early beginnings till its introduction within the whole Austrian-Hungarian Empire. First part of the thesis focuses on detailed analysis of industrial education in South-Bohemian Kaplice, 2nd part covers the gradual establishment of complex social system in the dominion of Nové Hrady. The thesis looks at the social-pedagogical reform endeavours aimed at progress of the society and improvement of the general situation in Bohemia in the aftermath of the protracted wars in Central Europe. The closing chapter reflects the content of the thesis within the context of social pedagogy.
