Bohumil Modrý and his fate in literature and media coverage

This Bachelor thesis focuses on research of the image of Czechoslovak ice-hockey goalkeeper Bohumil Modrý in literature and contemporary print. After describing the fate of Bohumil Modrý, I focus on the analysis of contemporary daily print, namely Rudé právo, Mladá fronta and Československý sport, in which I research the amount of informations publicated in named daily print and the differences between them. While analysing the daily print, I will focus on few specific periods - 1947 and 1949 ice-hockey world championships, 1948 olympic games, March 1950 in which Bohumil Modrý and his former teammates from national ice-hockey team were arrested, October 1950 in which the court hearing took place, their release from jail in early 1955, death of Bohumil Modrý in July 1963 and rehabilitation of Modrý and his once convicted teammates in July 1968. The third part of the Bachelor thesis follows Modrý's image in the book Jáchymov by Austrian writer Josef Haslinger. It is a novel which was written with help of Bohumil Modrý's daughter Blanka and follows more different storylines, but the main one focuses on the fate of Bohumil Modrý. John Mathesius and Joachimsthal

This thesis deals with a Lutheran preacher and rector of a Latin School - Johannes Mathesius. He was a close friend of Martin Luther and also a rector and later on a preacher in Jachymov. This was a border mining town in the Ore Mountains in the Czech Kingdom. The thesis also deals with the economic, political and cultural impacts which formed the life of this town during its greatest fame associated with the mining of silver ore. Johannes Mathesius was connected with this town and its events and he contributed to its cultural and religious rise in the spirit of a reformative belief. The thesis deals with the personal and creative life of Johannes Mathesius and his work.
Jáchymov- one of the phenomena of the Bohemian Kingdom. View into the conditions of the 16th century city

The work presents a summary of the importance of mining in a specific region of the Ore Mountains and how this led to the emergence of the mining town of Jáchymov.The origins of Jáchymov agglomeration is linked to the family of Slik. The following chapters discusses their family, their asset base and foundation. The main part is devoted to the architektur. The aim of thesis is try to define building and urban development of town Jachymov in 16th century. The work presents translocation and the relocation of settlements from the center of the parish church of All Saints to St. Jáchym. The thesis should notice the time when the two churches arose by looking back at the historical situation in the 16th century Bohemia.
Jáchymov as a Book awarded with a Prize and an Anti-prize: the Analysis of the Czech translation awarded with the Anti-prize Skřipec and its correction

The first part of this Bachelor thesis is based on the translational theory by the Czech linguist and translator Jiří Levý. On these grounds the terms translation and bad translation are defined as well as the reasons and consequences of bad translation. Furthermore other relevant translational theories are introduced. In the end the meaning and relevance of an anti-prize are discussed while the Czech literary anti-prize Skřipec is presented. The core of the practical part of the thesis is the critical analysis focused on the Czech translation of the novel Jáchymov by Josef Haslinger, which received the above-mentioned anti-award in 2012. First of all, the content of the book is and then the reception of the novel in German and Czech speaking countries are presented. The major part consists of the comparison of both, the original German novel and its Czech translation, in order to discover the mistakes in the Czech version of the book. These are subsequently classified and commented with respect to Levý´s translational theory. Last but not least a correction of the wrong passages is conducted.
Landscape development in Jachymov

This thesis deals with monitoring developments montane landscapes in the Jáchymov in the Krušné hory (Ore Mountains). In the thesis the attention is given to the history of the min-ing town Jáchymov, founded in the 16th century, which is closely linked to the expansion of mining in the Krušné hory (Ore Mountains). In the thesis I focuse on the events that have marked most of this cultural landscape, in the period from the mid-20th century in connection with the resettlement of the German population followed up with exploitation of uranium ores. In the thesis I examine all signifiant factors that influenced and shaped this distinctive cultural landscape and analyzes the data of land use from the database LUCC. For more pre-cise and illustrative assessment of changes in the landscape were used not only written docu-ments with historical descriptions, but also a graphical documents. Comparing old photo-graphs primarily from the first half of the 20th century with present situation attention is given to land cover and terrain ganges and changes in built-up area. The thesis comparing the Stable Cadastre and aerial photography with current maps through ArcGIS. There are evaluated local changes related to with the built-up area and the changing terrain. Furthermore, through the manual vectorization, it is been noted land cover in maps of Stable Cadastre and the latest orthophoto. Land cover has been simplified to the three most significant categories: forest area, non-forest area and built-up area. The result is the separate map of the cadastral territory Jáchymov, where the most significant changes are projected, that the increase and decrease of forest and increase of built-up area. The goal of the thesis is to point out the extremes in the extent of anthropic pressure in this specific landscape. On the one hand, building work camps, massive changes in terrain and remaining tailings, on the other hand, abandoned land and settlement after resettled popula-tion, result of succession and disappearing landscapes microstructure.
