Devoted Soldier of Eclecticism
Žufníček, Jan Adam ; Delong, Marek (referee) ; Vlková, Veronika (advisor)
My bachelor’s thesis Devoted soldier of eclecticism is a series of paintings and objects. The main theme of exhibition which should be based on these artifacts is a polemic about meaning of metamodernism in contemporary art. Conceptual approach to artistic reference is essential for all pieces. I am often depicting mundane objects (boots, pigeons, air baloons) enriched by philosophical or spiritual meanings. To create a tension between simple and metaphysical, I am using simple compositions and naive painting techniques. There is usually some concrete situation or polemic happening in my paintings. If paintings would be philosophical concepts, objects would represent how human beings (anthropomorphised swords) approach these often complicated phenomena.

Grimdark - a study of appearance and application of a new subgenre in modern fiction
VITEK, Michal
The theme of the thesis will be grimdark, grasped as a new subgenre of fiction, mainly associated with the Warhammer 40 000 universe. The thesis will focus primarily on analyzing the question of the possibilities of meaningfully defining this subgenre, tracing the ways in which these definitions are applied towards the Warhammer 40 000 universe, and the development of features that contribute to the definition of the subgenre in the timelines of fictional worlds. With a reflection on the media in which they are presented. This issue of sub-genre definition will be set within the framework of standard aesthetic categories and narratology. Furthermore, the thesis will address the occurrence of the given subgenre features in other selected universes. Both in literary, audio, film or videogame format, with an attempt to differentiate the subgenre delineation of grimdark from other subgenres and to analyze the possibility of adding fictions not yet labeled with this term under the wing of grimdark.
The Scar
Sláma, Matěj ; Nytra, Martin (referee) ; Mazanec, Martin (advisor)
Diploma thesis Scar is a short film about the fictional history of the found „monument“. In the animated film, I examine the context and meaning of the „monument“ in a virtual environment that I created based on visual documentation and mapping of specific places that I explored during my expeditions through the urban landscape of Brno and The Hague. These are mainly „lost“ spaces (also referred to as vague terrain or no man's land), which inspired me to create my own visual map of my urban explorations. The starting point of the work is personal lived experience, which I reflect by documenting places, creating 3D objects and manipulating 3D scans of „lost“ spaces with elements of computer games. In the resulting film, the viewer follows a guide–walk through a virtual environment where objective reality is intentionally blended with a fictional world built on the author's imagination.

Imagination and Reality in the Work of J.R.R. Tolkien and Neil Gaiman
ŠIMMEROVÁ, Alena
The bachelor thesis aims to explore selected works of J. R. R. Tolkien and Neil Gaiman as representative examples of the fantasy genre. The narratives of Tolkien's Hobbit and Lord of The Rings and Gaiman's Coraline and The Graveyard Book will be contrasted and analysed on the theoretical background of the rites of passage. Thus, its fundamental concepts will be introduced in order to establish a solid basis for subsequent analysis. The concept of liminality will be given extra importance because it represents a state in which the dramatic changes in one's character occur. The focus will be placed on the fantastic adventure as a liminal phase of the storyline in comparison with the preliminary and post-liminal ones, which are more or less associated with realistic elements. The proper analysis will concentrate especially on the disparity between the fantastic plot, which is aligned to a trial/journey motif, and the framework established by the opening and the end of the story. Moreover, a part of the thesis will be devoted to a definition of the fantasy genre and the biography of both authors. Finally, the thesis will be concluded with the topic of death in terms of liminality as meeting point of imagination and reality.

HRADECKÁ, Simona
Bachelor thesis is dedicated to the fantasy cycle The Witcher, written by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Thesis points out fairy tale motives.
