Buriánek, Petr ; Bečka, Jan (advisor) ; El-Ahmadieh, Jakub (referee)
This bachelor thesis aims at describing impact of energy policy of Barack Obama during his two terms as american president on US-Saudi relations. Concretely reactions from Saudi Arabia on these policy decisions with chronologic analysis and emphasis on movement of world oil prices. Core of these thesis could be divided into three parts. First on eis fall of oil prices which took place against the backdrop of the Global Financial Crisis. Second is period of stable oil prices between 2009-2014 with huge tight oil development. Last one is fall of oil prices after June 2014. Each of these periods had its own impact on US-Saudi relations. This analysis shows change in Saudi traditional role as swing producer between 2008 and 2014. Main reasons were behaviour of producents like Ira nor Russia in 2008 downcycle and mentioned development of tight oil production in US, which both were perceived as a threat by Saudi Arabia. Analysis also shows that although president Obama to some extend managed to achieve american energy independence on imported oil it does not solve american energy security issue. Main security threat stays american incapability of controling world oil prices.

Analysis of export and import of the Russian Federation
Romashkina, Natalia ; Mandel, Martin (advisor) ; Koderová, Jitka (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with analysis of export and import of the Russian Federation between 2005-2015. The primary objective is to analyze the factors affecting the foreign trade of Russia and to evaluate their consequences. The analysis shows the low diversification of Russian export, the dependence of foreign trade on exports of crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas. Furthermore, the dependence on oil prices, world and domestic GDP is identified. During the study of dependence, the statistical methods are used, which are correlation and regression analysis. The theoretical part devoted to basic concepts, description of importance and functions of foreign trade, theories of external economic relations. In the second chapter a comprehensive analysis of commodity and territorial structure of foreign trade is carried out. The importance of foreign trade for balance of payments, GDP creation and foreign exchange relations is determined. The third chapter is more focused on revelation of trends influencing both exports and imports. The final fourth chapter focuses on the empirical analysis of the export and import of the Russian Federation.

Can we still call OPEC a cartel?
Ali, Dalia ; Stroukal, Dominik (advisor) ; Prokop, Jaromír (referee)
This paper raises the question whether OPEC actually acts like a cartel, given the fact that there were many controversy surrounding the organization due to its coordination failures, which resulted to an oil glut between 2014-2016. Consequently, the oil industry experienced a dramatic decline in oil prices due to the oil surplus. A comparison was made between OPEC's allocated quotas, and its actual oil production to investigate whether the members of the organization adhere to the assigned quota, to achieve highest possible prices.

CHINA IN GLOBAL AND REGIONAL POLITICS IN THE 21ST CENTURY - GEOPOLITICAL CLASH WITH JAPAN, INDIA, USA, RUSSIA AND EUROPE Mgr. Martin Petrtýl Supervisor: Doc. Dr. Bořivoj Hnízdo, PhD. Institute of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences This dissertation discusses the current and future role of China in the 21st century. I worked with the idea to prepare a systematically detailed analytical study of the country in relation to its surroundings as well as its internal environment for more than 8 years, including many interruptions. I, above all, contemplated about the way how to truly scientifically, i.e. credibly, it means in the maximum possible the limits of verifiability, develop a full work that could hold up to the colleagues from the scientific community and myself. It is logical it was and is my attempt to allow minimal possibility of any criticism of this work for its formal, content, or other deficiencies. First, I decided to analyse in some detail the currently known theoretical approaches and methods of study, not only in political sciences, especially those used by political geographers, but also in other related fields, especially in the field of study of international relations, sociology, political science or general security studies. I did not want to study the issue is the...
The time-frequency relationship between spot and futures prices of crude oil
Tran Quang, Tuan ; Baruník, Jozef (advisor) ; Červinka, Michal (referee)
This thesis investigates the relationship between daily spot and futures prices for maturities of one, two, three and four months of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil. The data cover period January 1987-April 2015. Based on economic theory, the futures prices should be closely related to the spot price, which - in the case of crude oil market - this thesis analyses using wavelet-based approach. Main contributions of this thesis are findings in the field of time-frequency relationship of spot-futures prices of crude oil, where an alternative methodology - wavelet transformation - is used. The usage of this advanced method is also an additional contribution of this thesis because it allows us to rigorously study how co-movement (relationship) differs across frequencies/scales and time. In this thesis wavelet Coherence, wavelet bivariate correlation and relatively new method wavelet band spectral regression (WBLS) are used. This thesis brings 4 main findings. First, relationship between Futures and spot prices of crude oil is strong in all time-periods (frequencies/scales), which supports economic theory. Second and In contrary to the first finding, in the gasoline spot-futures market, we find that the relationship is strong mainly in higher scales (lower frequencies) while in lower scales (higher...
Czech - Russian Energy Relations
Holan, Michal ; Binhack, Petr (advisor) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
The main objective of the thesis is to analyze energy relations between the Czech Republic and Russian Federation. Author will use neo-liberal theory of mutual interdependence and the research will be conducted in the spirit of qualitative research of explanatory epistemology. Analyze will be based on relevant literature related to the topic and subsequent analysis of energy relations between the Czech Republic and Russian Federation since the fall of the Soviet Union till the gas crisis in 2009. Theoretical framework of interdependence with regard to the asymmetry in the Czech-Russian energy relations is used in this thesis to explain the threats that can be caused by some Russian Federation′s decisions and that can very seriously damage an energy security of the Czech Republic. Asymmetric interdependence in Czech- Russian energy relations can act as a source of power of the Russian Federation. For full understanding of a theme of this thesis it is necessary to explain the threats and their impacts to the energy security of the Czech Republic and it is also necessary to explain the weaknesses of Russian Federation′s energy security. The May issue of Global Economic Outlook presents the regular monthly overview of recent and expected developments in selected territories, focusing on key economic variables: inflation, GDP growth, leading indicators, interest rates, exchange rates and commodity prices. In this issue, we focus on the question of whether the oil market is approaching equilibrium. We consider in more detail, among other things, the behaviour of OPEC and US shale oil producers observed over the last three years. We also attempt to identify the causes of occasional sharp swings in oil prices.
