The TV news on the CT 1 and codified pronounciation

This Bachelor Thesis focuses on analysis of codified pronunciation of TV news' professional speakers on the CT 1. This public service medium was chosen because it guarantees a high level of the language skills in its codes and there is expected that the professional speakers on the CT1 will be an example in speech for their audience. The fundamental object of this Thesis is to analyze the status of Colloquial Stan-dard Czech and Standard Czech in the actual media discourse. This Thesis reflects a discussion about the status of Common Czech. The Bachelor Thesis deals with the causes of this discussion and outlines the consequences that would be due to the role of Common Czech like a prestigious national variety. In the theoretical part there is a summary of basic terms and contexts that refer to the topic of this thesis. The practical part contains the description of analysed materials and the analysis' process. The analysis reveals the speech imperfections on the back-ground of the orthoepic norm and describes theirs possible causes and consequences. The most occurred unnormalized phenomenas were divergences in quality and quantity of vowels, unnormalized releases of consonants' connections, such as an as-similation to a contiguous segment or assimilation at a distance. SLAČÁLKOVÁ HARASIMOWICZ, MARTA MARIA. Colloquial Czech in Translation (the comparison of the original text and translation of the novel Night Work by Jáchym Topol into Polish). Praha: Charles University. Faculty of Arts, 2011. The thesis deals with the issue of translatability of colloquial Czech elements into the Polish language using the comparison of the novel "Night Work" by Jáchym Topol and its Polish translation. The theoretical part involves a summary of the development of the Czech and Polish languages from the perspective of a standard language variety origin and its norm. Moreover, it focuses on the changing stratification of both languages with a special attention to the present stratification. The description of colloquial Czech and its current position as a Czech language variety is also included. Furthermore the thesis deals with the issue of equivalence, adequacy and translatability from the theoretical and practical point of view. The analysis of the original and translated novel extracts follows. This part concentrates on the possibilities of substituting Czech colloquial words in the Polish text. Spoken Danish in the Contemporary Danish Literature and its Translation into Czech

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the methods used by translators when translating spoken language in contemporary Danish fiction into Czech. In the first chapter, the Czech translation tradition is defined. This tradition influences Czech usage and tendencies. The second chapter introduces the features of stylized language reflected in literature written in Czech. As will be shown, these are mainly lexicological and morphological features and related stylistical means. The following chapters are devoted to the analysis of individual features of stylized language and their translation into Czech. Discussed are loanwords, diminutives, expletives, morphological changes, realia and politeness. The translated units are compared with Czech translation tradition and literature written in Czech.

Language means of social differentiation of characters in literary translation. Alfred Döblin: Berlin Alexanderplatz

This thesis is devoted to a relatively little explored issue - the social differentiation of literary characters and the transfer of its linguistic means. The language material for exploring this field of translatology was provided by Döblin's novel Berlin Alexanderplatz (1928) and by two translations into Czech (1935 and 1968). We analyzed utterances of two characters. The first one represents a lower social class and criminal environment. In his speech the analysis showed many elements of Berlin urbanolect which were used for his social characterization. The second character represents the Jewish ethnic group. His direct speech contains elements of literary Yiddish, alluding to his Jewish origins. The subsequent utterance analysis of the first character in Czech translations showed an appropriate use of common Czech as a substitute for Berlin urbanolect in both translations. The analysis was set in the context where the usage of nonstandard elements in Czech and translated literature used to be a convention. Both translators followed these conventions successfully. When translating the literary Yiddish in the direct speech of the second character, significant differences in both translations were discovered. Analysis of a common language around the city Prachatice

The topic of the bachelor thesis is an analysis of everyday language in Prachatice region. This area belongs to the dialect subgroup south-west-bohemian. The author of the work has got transcripts of speaking of people of the old generation. She focuses on phonetics, morphology, lexical and syntactic analysis where appropriate, she analyses speech fenomena. The aim of the work is to assess the presence of dialectal speech elements in the language of the oldest generation and at the same time to provide a comprehensive image of everyday language in this area.

Selected morphological features in the common speech of the young generation in the border zone of west Bohemia

The aim of the paper is to describe a newly developed common speech in an area settled by people from various regions. We present research results from five towns northwest of Pilsen (West Bohemia). The common speech of this region is based on common Czech, with noteworthy occurence of West Bohemian dialectal features, and no strictly defined features of standard Czech. There are supposed certain differences between localities, partly explainable by geographical context. Comparing the two used research methods, in the written questionnaire respondents tended to use standard Czech more frequently, while in the recording of their speech many rare language items or variant forms have not been registered.
