The end of the german press in the Karlsbad region in 1938 and 1945
Tesařová, Michaela ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Krejcar, Robert (referee)
My thesis aims to analyse German written periodicals published in Karlovy Vary region, which were discontinued in 1938 and 1945. This paper analyses last issues of Volkswille and Karlsbader Tageszeitung (earlier known as Deutsche Tageszeitung), published in last week of their existence and Elbogener Zeitung in its last month of publishing. My goal is to establish not only changes in contents and editorial staff, but also to find out whether it was clearly stated that these papers will cease to exist or it was only indirectly hinted. I also focus on further lives of employees of mentioned periodicals and publishing houses after their work ended. Introductory part concerns itself with important historical events mainly of 1930s and 1940s that influenced both the living conditions in Karlovy Vary region and activities of regional media. Equally important is also coexistence of Czechs and Germans in our region, developing since 12th century. Given the subject of my thesis special emphasis is given to the Czech-German relations in vicinity of Karlovy Vary from 1930s till the end of World War II.
Establishment of the United Nations Organization and its Reflection in the Period Newspapers
Jelínková, Vladislava ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The paper will concern the formation of the United Nations Organization in 1945 and its reflection in the period newspapers. Firstly it will provide facts about the preceding organizations of UNO, it will describe the proces of drafting the new organization and its establishing conference in San Francisko 25. 4. - 26. 6. 1945. It will discuss the position of the Czechoslovak Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Masaryk at the conference, because he acted as a very pro-Western politician before and during World War II, but at the conference he stood for the interestes of the Soviet Union (i.e. in the question of recognizing the Polish government). Then the paper will also outline the domestic political situation that was influencing Masaryk's performance at the conference. The first part includes also the preamble of the UN Charter. The second part of the paper will introduce the articles in the Czechoslovak press that were reporting about the UN creation. I chose the following newspapers: Lidová demokracie, Mladá fronta, Právo lidu, Rudé právo and Svobodné slovo, because those daily newspapers were written in Czech, they were published in the period of June-December 1945 and they were published by political parties that were represented in the National Front (only the journal Mladá fronta was published...
Musical Life in Česká Lípa Region After 1945
Bendová, Eliška ; Valášek, Marek (advisor) ; Stříteská, Leona (referee)
Česká Lípa is a district seat located in the Liberec region. It had served as an important traffic junction since the Middle Ages because of its situation near the German and Polish borders. Thus, cultural customs and traditions of neighbouring countries and especially of the German majority had played a significant role in cultural events in the town and its surroundings. After both the World War I and the World War II, old residents and also new incomers endeavoured to re-establish or build a new background for the town's social life. Despite the fact that the majority of the post-war period was affected by the communist regime, the citizens set up clubs, organized competitions or festivals and by doing so, in many cases, they unknowingly built traditions that have been preserved till present days and are living inspiration for new generations of Česká Lípa inhabitants. Both the work of our ancestors and their legacy is extremely valuable cultural heritage. Due to the limited range of the diploma thesis and the author's specialization, this thesis focuses particularly on musical institutes and choirs in the region Česká Lípa. Unfortunately, the extant materials do not cover all musical activities, ensembles, personalities and events related to them since the World War II. It is worth mentioning...
First steps towards February 1948. The Moscow negotiations of the Czechoslovak exile in March 1945
Čuchna, Matěj ; Václavů, Lubor (advisor) ; Míšková, Alena (referee)
This thesis concentrates on the subject of the Moscow negotiations in March 1939 and preceeding and following events. The Moscow negotiations are considered to be the starting point of the Communist seizure of power in Czechoslovakia, leading to their moment of final triumph in February 1948. Near the very end of the Second World War, members of the Czechoslovak exile government, together with president Edvard Beneš, traveled to Moscow in order to discuss several political, economical and military issues with the Soviets. The issue of highest importance, however, were talks between the democratic Czechoslovak representatives from London and Czechoslovak Communists who have taken refuge in Moscow aftet the beginning of the war. It is not an exaggeration to say that everything was at stake. Literally, these talks were to define the long-term future of Czechoslovakia and, indeed, sadly, they had. While the democrats, arrived unprecedently unprepaired, the Communists had already elaborated a complete government program (later passed, with only minor changes, as the Košice Government Program), unsurprisingly very leftist and pro-Soviet. In military terms, the Communists gained strategic initiative and forced the democrats into a passive role with a very little potential for making any significant changes to the...
