Chromatic dispersion measurement of optical fibres using interferometric technique
Dymák, Pavel ; Peterka, Pavel
Research report deals with measurement of chromatic dispersion of singlemode optical fibres using interferometric technique at IREE AS CR in Prague. The document describes in details all components of measurement setup, initial setting up and measurement procedure, using of assembled control programs and the measurement data processing too. Several tips and practical recommendations complete the report based on many performed experiments.
Editorial
Čtyroký, Jiří
In introductory page of the Proceedings from 11th European Conference on Integrated Optics ECIO'03 draws readers attention to the history of beginnings of this series of conferences, their aim and proffesional orientation. A rigorous selection procedure of contributed papers is briefly mentioned and their distribution into session commented. The 11th International Workshop on the Optical Waveguide Theory and Numerical Modelling organised jointly with the ECIO'03 conference is noticed too.
Surface to bulk vacancy conversion in GaAs - discussion of the problem
Nohavica, Dušan ; Krier, A.
In the contribution the growth condition influence in MOVPE, MBE and ALE on the surface vacancies conversion to the bulk one was discussed. We adopted Van Vechten's concept supposing comparison of the reconstruction velocity and growth rate as leading parameters of the conversion. We try to consider reaction kinetics in Farrell's et al. surface vacancies fade away mechanisms during MBE growth on the reconstructed surfaces.

Čermák, Jan ; Buzek, Otokar ; Čemusová, Blanka ; Šojdr, Ludvík
The report brings a summary of the results obtained by The Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics (IREE) in the field of primary time and frequency metrology realizing the M19/03 project of The Metrology Programme of the Czech Office for Standards, Metrology and Testing in 2003.
Measurement of short pulses using fiber frequency-resolved optical fating
Vraný, Boleslav ; Honzátko, Pavel ; Kaňka, Jiří
We have reviewed and implemented the method of frequency-resolved optical gating. We discuss the fiber FROG experimental setup and several algorithms for pulse retrieval. These include the basic algorithm, the generalized projections and the genetic algorithm. We have developed new variants of the pulse retrieval algorithms by combining the generalized projections and the genetic algorithm and are experimenting with them to get optimal performance.
Broadband access networks
Kuchar, Anton
Currently, transmission capacity of long-haul optical networks is of the order of Tb/s. In many cases, however, these networks are not fully utilised. The main reason is insufficient capacity of access networks. In this paper an attemp is made to analyse the situation in the access networks from the technology, economy and legislation point of view and the present role of optical as well as competitive technologies and their prospective application in the access networks is discussed.
Er: Yb fibre-optic laser excited by a diode
Zavadilová, A. ; Kubeček, V. ; Honzátko, Pavel ; Kašík, Ivan ; Matějec, Vlastimil
The paper deals with the employment of special optical fiber doped in the core with ytterbium and erbium ions in a fiber laser emitting at 1540 nm. The fiber was drawn from a preform prepared by the MCVD method at it was coated with a polysiloxane polymer coating with a refractive index lower than of silica. This coating makes possible to launch light from a laser diode directly into a silica jacket of the fiber. An output power of 47 mW was measured with an excitation diode power of 860 mW.
Optimization of NRZ data transmission at 10Gbit/s over G.652 fibre without in-line amplification
Karásek, Miroslav ; Radil, J. ; Boháč, L.
The best scheme of chromatic dispersion compensation, input powers to standard and dispersion compensating fibre have been analysed numerical with the aim to find limits of NRZ data transmission over G.652 fibre. Theoretical results have partly been verified experimentally.
Optimal fibre cross section shape for cladding-pumped fibre lasers and amplifiers
Peterka, Pavel ; Kašík, Ivan ; Matějec, Vlastimil
The efficiency of the cladding-pumped fibre amplifier critically depends on the coupling of the pump radiation from the inner cladding to the single mode signal core, doped with rare earth ions /Er, Yb, .../. This coupling depends on the cross sectional shape of the inner cladding. In the paper, the conditions of the optimal shape are defined. Verification of these conditions in case of several specific examples, including experimental fibre prepared in the author's laboratory, is shown.
Tuned semiconductor laser for the diagnostic of the channel waveguides
Ondráček, František ; Skalský, Miroslav ; Čtyroký, Jiří
In contribution is described new measuring set up with tuned semiconductor laser and there are given first results of spectral losses and group refractive index in various channel waveguides by using a resonator method. The waveguides were prepared in special glasses by ion exchanges method and in LiNbO.sub.3./sub. crystal by proton exchange and also by titan difusion. Experimental results have demonstrated accuracy and rate of this arangement. In conclusion we have shown the possibility of the next research.
