Drugs experience of under age mothers located in inpatient treatment
Zárubová, Eva ; Vítečková, Michaela (referee) ; Lorenzová, Jitka (advisor)
In the theoretical part of my Bachelor's Degree thesis "The Experience with Drugs of Underage Mothers Placed in Institutional Care" I focus on issues connected with this topic. I address the issue of drug addiction as a problem of both the individual and that of society; forms and types of drug addiction and factors influencing the origin of such addiction. Among other issues I deal with is the adolescence period from the point of view of the way in which psychosocial relations are managed. I mention Erikson's theory of psychosocial development and psychosocial conflicts of this period too. In the next part I focus on institutional care of underage mothers and their stay in institutions. Related to this issue there is pregnancy and motherhood of underage girls and accompanying challenges not only for them but for the whole family too. I also mention possible risks and health hazards and causes and consequences of early motherhood. In the conclusion of the theoretical section I focus on drug addiction in relation to underage mothers and the impact of drugs on pregnancy and development of the embryo including the withdrawal symptoms of newborn babies. The main aim of the empirical part of my thesis is to explore, on the basis of interviews with pregnant underage girls addicted to drugs and underage mothers...

Counselling on stress management in academic settings in CR
Nyklová, Kateřina ; Schneidrová, Dagmar (advisor)
In the first part the current findings in the area of counselling on stress management in academic settings are presented. Outcome was that most authors that investigate stress on students claimed the main source of stress to be the exams. The reason for this was either the fear of failing or fear of the teacher. Another most frequently stated challenge represented the amount of study material, especially for the students of medicine. Other authors identified as source of stress and anxiety relationships in general. For example relationships between teachers and students, between classmates or family relationships. As the main sources of stress for academicians the following issues were mentioned - lack of financial means for research as well as for everyday routine activities, excessive work, poor management of the university, little appreciation for their work and worries concerning losing their job. As the most favourable coping strategy was mentioned the problem oriented coping and the cognitiv-behavioral therapy was also placed in the pole positions of coping strategies. Also the topic of receiving help from a tutor personally versus the help from online questionnairs and manuals was investigated and discused with such results favouring positively the contact from person to person. Some authors...

Bič, Josef ; Cihelková, Eva (advisor) ; Plchová, Božena (referee) ; Šaroch, Stanislav (referee) ; Čajka, Peter (referee)
The thesis focuses on theoretical and empirical analysis of concepts of competitiveness that are further applied to the case of the European Union and its system of economic governance. Aim of the thesis is to explain the relationship between competitiveness` concept and economic governance of the EU. The matter is whether the European Union, which has belonged to the most successful examples of regional integration, has strong and flexible tool for itself and for its member states to cope with changing conditions of the globalized world economy, demographic and environmental challenges and whether economic governance of the EU takes principles of competitiveness development into consideration and so application of these principles would make the EU economic governance more effective.

Coping with heterogeneity and motivation of all students independent from their capabilities, is one of the great challenges in primary school, especially for teaching and learning mathematics. In the project NaDiMa several substantial learning environments enabling "natural differentiation" were designed, tested in the classroom and will be analysed.

Functional study of the putative nucleotidase encoded by spr1057 gene in Streptococcus pneumoniae, a homologue of Escherichia coli protein YjjG
Vacková, Zuzana ; Lichá, Irena (referee) ; Branny, Pavel (advisor)
ANGLICKÝ ABSTRAKT Functional study of the putative nucleotidase encoded by spr1057 gene in Streptococcus pneumoniae, a likely homolog of Escherichia coli protein YjjG. Bacterial cells are constantly exposed to innumerable toxic substances, either in their external environment or by by-products of their own metabolism. For these reasons, the bacterial cells evolved several mechanisms to cope with this challenge. These mechanisms are represented by: blocking the uptake, export by specific transporters as well as specific inactivation of these substance by enzymes. A particular group of these toxic substances are noncanonica nucleotides, which can directly inhibit bacterial cell DNA replication or can result in increased mutation rate. Enzymes recognizing these modified derivatives are known as "house-cleaning" nucleotide phsphateses, which can inactivate the potentially mutagenic nucleotides and prevent their incorporation into DNA and RNA. Some of the "house- cleaning" enzymes belong to a group of haloacid dehalogenase enzymes (haloacid dehalogenase-like hydrolase superfamily), which are found in many bacterial species. This thesis is focused on the function of hypothetical protein Spr1057 of Streptococcus pneumoniae with an unknown function. Sequence comparison revealed that Spr1057 has a significant...

Changed Security Environment and Armaments Cooperation in the European Union
Shabu, Martin ; Pick, Otto (advisor) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
With the end of the Cold War there was a widely shared view amongst scholars in Europe as well as in the USA to the effect that the victory of western style democracies was overwhelming and lasting. However, developments in the Balkan region in the last decade of the twentieth century tragically showed the significance of such an illusion. The question of capabilities came on the scene with the NATO bombing of Serbia in the Kosovo conflict. Over ninety-five percent of the bombs fired were from planes of the Unites States.1Once again Europeans were unable to deal with conflicts on their territory. This time it was even worse. The European Union was depicted as not only a political but also a military dwarf. The launching of the European Security and Defence Policy project in 1998 was a step towards independent European forces being able to cope with low-intensity conflicts without the help of the US. But European soldiers need weapons which are designed to combat the military challenges of the 21st century. This is hard to achieve in a situation where almost all European defence budgets are steadily decreasing. It is clear that European taxpayers are simply not prepared to pay the costs of their security. At this point, defence ministers had to count with less support which required more effective use of...

The influence of stress on the duality of life and the work efficiency of workers in the helping professions
KOVÁŘÍKOVÁ, Lenka
This bachelor thesis deals with the Impact of stress on the quality of life and work performance of staff in helping professions. Currently, the challenge is the omnipresence of stress factors in day-to-day life and the impact of stress on quality of life and our health. The bachelor thesis you are holding in your hands is an attempt of a compact view of stress and its impact on quality of life. The paper is devoted to a harmful stress that can suppress potential, negatively affect work performance and health status, as well as positive stress, which can positively affect the workload and develop creativity and motivation. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on working with specialised literature on the basis of which describes the characteristics of stress, effects on health and mental balance in both work and personal life. In addition, I pay attention to individual causes of stress, reactions of the organism, their solutions and the effect on the human body and spirit. Finally, the thesis is devoted to stressors and typical stressful situations that can occur in an environment where the social worker or a worker in social services takes care of clients with special needs. Aim of the thesis focuses on mapping the stress load of staff in selected professional groups and its influence on performance and satisfaction in life. The second objective of my thesis is to find which efficient protective mechanisms and methods selected professional groups use to overcome stress and to maintain a standard quality of life. Before the actual research initiation, two basic research questions were defined: 1) Stress experienced by staff in helping professions has no impact on quality of life. 2) Stress experienced by staff in helping professions has no impact on work performance. The research part was processed in the form of quantitative research through questionnaire survey using two standardised questionnaires with closed questions, supplemented by age, sex and work position of the respondents. The group of respondents was compiled from various age and gender groups, who are social workers or social service workers with professional focus on disabled persons and work with clients requiring special approach to organisations operating in the territory of České Budějovice. A medium-sized observation sample (53 and 72 respondents) was processed in the research investigation. The objective of this thesis was achieved and both initially introduced hypotheses: "Stress experienced by staff in helping professions has no impact on quality of life" and the hypotheses "Stress experienced by staff in helping professions has no impact on work" were confirmed and at the same time can be defined (on the basis of the research) a hypothesis that the majority of surveyed respondents in the helping professions is exposed to multiple sources of stress, nevertheless symptoms of stress are not present at high levels, although methods for coping with stress are not fully adequate. Furthermore, it may be (with regard to quality of life of the chosen group of respondents) also defined a hypothesis that men and women maintain a standard quality of life despite the stress load in the profession. In conclusion, a view could be taken that even though workers in social services and social workers in the helping professions are exposed to stress they are able to work with stress and have mastered mechanisms to help fight against stress and handle the burden which is caused by stress. Despite knowledge of the mechanisms in the fight against stress, it is necessary that the these workers shall continue educating themselves in future and learn to resist stress and be resilient against its negative effects as each respondent has some stress management reserves.

Chasm and temple. Metaphors of chaos and order in 1870s Czech poetry
Hrdina, Martin
The author of this paper goes back to the 1870s, a time in which European society had to deal with a number of challenging situations – for example, a symptom of this intellectual crisis at the time was considered to be the rising tide of suicide. Hence attention is focused here on writers and their reactions to these crisis phenomena, as they had a direct influence through reading on educated members of society, and so\ncould help to create a way to manage these crisis phenomena. Czech poetry output, represented in this study by Jaroslav Vrchlický and Irma Geisslová, also had to deal with these reflections of the pessimistic Weltanschauung during the 1870s. These authors handled this challenge in various ways, their chosen strategy having an impact on the public reception of their works and influencing their subsequent literary careers.

The Role of Olympism in International Relations
Hruška, Jakub ; Matějka, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Sršeň, Radim (referee)
The thesis investigates the position of Olympism in international relations. The introductory chapters deal with institutional structure of the Olympic Movement, which is headed by the International Olympic Committee. The following chapters examine Olympism in connection with selected political issues. These are political interests of states and other subjects, conflicts and cooperation among states. The question of boycotts is addressed in a separate chapter. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the role of Olympism in international relations in a comprehensive manner. The thesis uses several historical examples that show how the Olympic Movement coped with given political challenges. From the mentioned examples and the evaluation of development, the most important factors for Olympism are finally deduced, i.e. commercialization, mediatization and politicization.
