A new blade cascade for flutter studies
Šnábl, Pavel ; Pešek, Luděk ; Procházka, Pavel P. ; Skála, V.
In this paper, a new blade cascade, developed in the Institute of Thermomechanics, is presented. The geometry of the cascade was modified so now the stall flutter can occur. It has some major construction improvements over the original cascade which now allow more precise and reliable measurements. The stability of the new blade cascade with five NACA 0010 profiles with rotational degree of freedom is assessed by Travelling Wave Mode approach and Aerodynamic Influence Coefficient approach.
Consistency of mathematical and experimental model of the autoparametric system
Fischer, Cyril ; Náprstek, Jiří
This paper presents a long-overdue comparison of data obtained from experimental investigation of a spherical vibration absorber with the results of two mathematical models of the motion of a heavy sphere in a spherical surface. It shows that the danger posed by the potentially unstable self-parametric nature of the mathematical system is not too great in the case of realistic configurations, and that the values of the parameters describing the realistic structures remain within intervals corresponding to the stable behaviour of the absorber.
Analysis suggestion for vehicle scanning method
Bayer, Jan
An analytical approach is suggested that can be conveniently applied in the framework of the Vehicle scanning method (VSM). It assumes that the modal parameters of a bridge will be imported from a finite element (FE) program into MATLAB, where the structural response caused by a moving mass and a moving spring mass is solved using coupling equations and numerical integration. A mathematical formulation of the solution is presented together with a short numerical case study that compares the results to a traditional closed form solution. It is shown that when comparing both forms of analysis the suggested approach is more accurate in the case of slow velocities of the passing sprung mass. Other advantages are that the method allows for the mass of the vehicle or (tractor) towing vehicle and a damping \nto be included in the calculation. The user-friendly preprocessing in commercial FE programs can also be considered an advantage.
Dynamics of a cantilever beam with piezoelectric sensor: Experimental study
Kolman, Radek ; Kylar, Jaromír ; Kotek, Vojtěch ; Cimrman, Robert ; Musil, Ladislav
Online and real-time sensing and monitoring of the health state of complex structures, such as air-craft and critical parts of power stations, is an essential part of the research in dynamics. Several types of sensors are used for sensing dynamic responses and monitoring response changes during the operation of critical parts of complex systems. The piezoelectric (PZ) materials belong to one group of electroactive materials, which transform mechanical deformation into an electrical response. For example, PZ ceramics or PVDF foils are employed for online sensing of the time history of mechanical deformation. Experimentally obtained response of a cantilever beam structure with a glued PZ sensor is the case of interest in this contribution. During the transient problem of the beam loaded by suddenly interrupted load due to the weight of a mass at the end of the beam, the time history of normal velocity at a point on the beam surface has been measured by a laser vibrometer and parallely, the output voltage on the PZ sensor has been measured by an electric device. The experimental data in the case of the first eigen-frequency is in good agreement with the value given by the formulae from the theoretical modeling of free vibration of a linear beam.
The connection between the principle of the least action and the thermodynamic condition of stability
Maršík, František ; Trávníček, Zdeněk ; Antošová, Zuzana
The extended principle is formulated for a material point (M.P.) X, which has nonzero mass, temperature, and trajectory x(X,t). The Lagrangian of this variation principle is equal to the kinetic energy from which, the internal energy of the material point (which depends on the entropy) and the additional energy caused by the frictional force are subtracted. The relation between the inertial force and the entropy gradient is found and the gravitational force is completely replaced by the entropy gradient. Thanks to the mentioned properties of the total enthalpy, the Thermodynamic criterion of stability of the state of M.P., is formulated.
Dynamics of a cantilever beam with piezoelectric sensor: Finite element modeling
Cimrman, Robert ; Kolman, Radek ; Musil, Ladislav ; Kotek, Vojtěch ; Kylar, Jaromír
An elastodynamical model of a cantilever beam coupled with a piezoelectric sensor is introduced and its discretization using the finite element method is presented. The mathematical model includes additional terms that enforce the floating potential boundary condition for keeping a constant charge on an electrode of the sensor. The behaviour of the model is illustrated using a numerical example corresponding to an experimental setup, where vibrations of the beam and the potential on the sensor are measured.
COMPUTER SIMULATION STUDY OF THE STABILITY OF UNDERACTUATED BIPEDAL ROBOT MODELS (motivated by Griffin and Grizzle, 2017)
Polach, P. ; Anderle, Milan ; Zezula, Pavel ; Papáček, Štěpán
A key feature for bipedal walkers (robots and humans as well) is their stability or disturbance rejection defined as the ability to deal with unexpected disturbances. The paper by Griffin and Grizzle (2017) have significantly contributed to the shift from flat ground to slopes and steps when evaluating the walking efficiency of their robots. Similarly, in this contribution, based on the appropriate model of robot dynamics and control law, we examine the stability of walking-without-falling for different ground perturbations for a threelink compass gait walker. I.e., we perform the sensitivity analysis of the walking stability of underactuated bipedal walker with respect to certain disturbation using the alaska/MultibodyDynamics simulation tool.
