The geopolitical determinants of India's Central Asia strategy

Tato práce si klade za cíl identifikovat články a determinanty indické strategie a politiky s ohledem na pět postsovětských států střední Asie: Kazachstán, Kyrgyzstán, Tádžikistán, Turkmenistán a Uzbekistán v rámci geopolitického rámce. V současnosti rozeznáváme tři faktory (ovladače) indické strategie v této oblasti - bezpečnosti a strategické nezbytnosti, energetické diverzifikace dané bohatstvím přírodních zdrojů Střední Asie, hospodářská angažovanost a konektivita. Použitím této identifikace jako odrazový můstek, disertace se snaží potvrdit platnost těchto předpokladů, a prozkoumat tyto determinanty v detailu. Kromě toho, že se snaží identifikovat jiné determinanty indické strategie, poskytuje koncepční rámec, jehož prostřednictvím se pochopit indické agentury ve Střední Asii. Ve svém průzkumu, z dizertační práce vyplívá, že počáteční hypotéza je platná, a navíc naznačuje velmocenské ambice Indie (a následné využití měkké síly v regionu) jako dodatečný determinant své strategie. Dále tvrdí, že nejenže může Indická agentura ve střední Asii, se koncepčně zarámovaný v klasickém geopolitického hlediska, ale také naznačuje, že motivace pro indické agentury v této oblasti by měla být z pohledu objektivem rodícího všeobjímající indické grand strategie, jako pomocné cíl, disertace nabízí komentáře na...

The US' AF-PAK Strategy and its Implications for India

Autor je cizinec neovládající český jazyk. Abstract This thesis looks at the US'AF-PAK strategy in detail and analyses the implications of the strategy for India and for US strategy in the greater South Asian region. It approaches the topic by looking at the operational impact of the strategy in Afghanistan and the challenges posed to the strategy by the situation in Pakistan and the Pakistani military establishment. It then considers the impact of Pakistan's strategic in imperatives in Afghanistan before looking at the basis of India's Afghan engagement and then reviews these findings in the light of current India-Pakistan relations. The thesis concludes with a look at the implications of the AF-PAK strategy for India and on the US-India-Pakistan trilateral relationship. Kashmir: the Last Twenty Years: Moving towards the Future

The last twenty years have characterized the difficult relationship India and Pakistan have shared since Independence. It is almost impossible to separate Kashmir from this relationship. This period from 1987 to the present has influenced and affected impacted the region then every before, insurgency, violence, terrorism, human rights abuses, economic stagnation, war and global events like the collapse of the Soviet Union and 9/11 have all had an effect in South Asia. While briefly covering history, geo-politics and past rhetoric till 1987, this thesis focuses on the major events that have occurred in Kashmir in the last twenty years and the underlying Indian and Pakistani strategies, which have influenced these events. Consequently the thesis analyses the implications of these events today, and what they portend as we move towards the future. It also pays due attention to changes in the world order, that have affected Kashmir: the significance of the NATO led War on terror, in the light of the rise of Islamic fundamentalism cannot be overstated, and the constant changes in the dynamics of the US - India- Pakistan relationship. The last few years may have seen a reduction in the insurgency, along with overtures made by both countries - CBM's and official peace talks, however a solution has remained elusive....
