JAVA- and LABVIEW-based virtual laboratory

Insulating materials are used in many electric and electronic applications. Their characteristics change during their lifetime, in function of external stresses, like electrical or thermal stimulations. To characterize them and determinate the evolution of their characteristics with time, one possible way is measuring the current when you apply an electrical field through the material. In the LEMD (Laboratory of Electrostatic and Dielectric Materials), this experimentation was made manually, but it was not very efficient for high-speed signals, or for long time experimentations. The main subject of this work was to develop an application, using LabVIEW software, to operate electrometer Keithley (voltage generator), and to acquire automatically Pico-current measurements. This application offering to user different functions: - Entering output voltage. - Choosing type of running. - Defining long of period. - Driving instrument. - Acquiring current measurements, treats data and save them in a file readable by other software (text file). - Analyzing measured data.
