Electroculture: A New Way of Boosting Crops?
Šácha, Michal ; Langerová, Petra (oponent) ; Špoula, Jakub (oponent) ; Šedrlová, Magdalena (vedoucí práce)
This thesis delves into the electroculture hypothesis, which examines the influence of magnetic fields on pre-sowed seeds, seedlings, and mature plants. The thesis scrutinises papers that support the electroculture hypothesis, including findings of accelerated germination rates, enhanced vitality, and species-specific benefits. The study emphasises the nuanced relationship between magnetic field strength, exposure duration, and observed effects, revealing positive and negative outcomes. Additionally, the thesis dissects electroculture devices, including the method e-ventus, and investigates the reasons behind the pseudoscience label often associated with electroculture. A comparison is drawn between chemicals used in agriculture and the method e-ventus, with research results showing similar or even superior outcomes with the chemical treatment. Finally, a critical analysis of electroculture and its potential future is presented, suggesting that while electroculture may not be the best fit for large-scale agriculture, it could find a place in ecological farming.
