The Eschatological Meaning of Jesus' Resurrection (PhD dissertation) Jiří Dosoudil Abstract: The dissertation examines the biblical concept of the resurrection of Jesus. In particular biblical texts, it examines its meaning and how it relates to the last things of man, the world and its history. It traces where the resurrection of Jesus is mentioned in the New Testament and subjects the prominent passages to detailed exegetical analysis. To be able to read the biblical discourse on the resurrection in the appropriate cultural-religious context, it also provides an overview beforehand of how it is anchored in Old Testament ideas about human post-mortem existence and the life-giving power of God. Related but distinct ideas of contemporary paganism are also explored. The work points out significant or recurring moments in the texts it interprets. In a final reflection, it assesses their significance, puts them in context, and shows that the concepts of the resurrection of Jesus and the resurrection of all believers are related to the Old Testament hope of redeeming God, working on behalf of man in all circumstances. Worship in the epistles of Apostle Paul

In this work the gathering of the church in Corinth and its problems are analyzed in order to understand Paul's theological thinking and intentions about worship. These intentions are brought into connection with Paul's usage of worship terminology. Further, the significance of the Corinthian gathering for the life of the church is discussed. The analysis of the problem of the Corinthian Eucharist shows that different groups begin the dinner breaking the loaf at different moments as they arrive. Paul denies that this dinner is the Eucharist and re-establishes it by quoting the paradosis that emphasizes Jesus' dominance over the Eucharist and community with those for whom Jesus died. Concerning the Corinthian gathering where charismas appear Paul presents the profession of Jesus as Lord as a criterion of true spirituality. The general criterion for reformation of the worship is oikodome as the benefit for the church that is Christ's body. Paul emphasizes the integrative character of worship. However, Christian worship exceeds all sacral forms and fills the whole life of a believer. That's why Paul likes using sacral terminology in a transferred meaning. Jehovah as God of Peace in the Theology of the Apostle Paul The thesis deals with theological grounds, which led the apostle Paul to use the phrase ‚God of peace'. The thesis asks, what The Old Testament can say to this question. Based on the exegesis 2C 5,18-6,2 and Rom 5,1-11 it investigates how Paul interprets the event of Christ's cross and how he speaks about God yet. The second chapter suggests trends that define modern form of family, mentions the main source of the current crisis and tries to analyze them. The third chapter defines a family from a Biblical perspective. Focus of the work is in the fourth and fifth chapter devoted to relationships. The last part of this thesis summarizes the obtained knowledge. It calls for diligent study of biblical principles and their application in practice everyday family life. Pearls before Swine

The Bachelor thesis Pearls before Swine (Mt 7,6+15-22) includes a translation and exegesis of this part of the Sermon on the Mount and its grammatical analysis and in-depth study. It is an attempt to summ up various approaches to problematic elements of the text, how they are handled by different theologians mainly of the 20th century, and to hint at the directions which they followed. Further an outline of the period background which could have possibly influenced the evangelist by writting is drawn up. The nonbiblical paralles of these texts are mentioned, and the so called Wirkungsgeschichte of this text is chalked out. This thesis tries to figure out something which joins the verses about dogs and about false prophets together. The responces of the Mt 7,6+15-22 in Bohemia and Moravia are excluded.

THE PURPOSE OF MY THESIS IS TO EXPLORE HOW MUCH THE JOHN'S GOSPEL - NAMELY THE JESUS PRESENTED BY IT - IS HISTORICALLY RELIABLE ACCORDING TO THE CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP. METHODICALLY, I BASE MY INQUIRY ON COMPARISON WITH THE SYNOPTICS, ON CONFRONTATION WITH THE COMMENTARIES AND SELECTED RELEVANT SCHOLARLY STUDIES. I SEEK TO DEMONSTRATE THAT - CONCERNING THE QUESTION OF HISTORICAL RELIABILITY - JOHN'S GOSPEL IS IN A BETTER POSITION THAN MANY MIGHT THINK. OF COURSE, NOT THE GOSPEL AS A WHOLE. BUT DETAILS SPREAD ALL THROUGH THE GOSPEL SEEMINGLY UNIMPORTANT AT THE FIRST SIGHT POINT OUT TO A SURPRISINGLY PRECISE EVANGELIST'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPOGRAPHICAL AND SOCIAL DETAILS OF JERUSALEM BEFORE THE DESTRUCTION OF THE SECOND TEMPLE. THE FIRST TWO CHAPTERS OF THE PAPER ARE CONCERNED WITH THE HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF THIS QUESTION, FROM THE FIRST CENTURIES UNTIL TODAY, AND WITH THE HERMENEUTICAL DIFFICULTIES NECESSARILY ACCOMPANYING SUCH A TASK. THE THIRD CHAPTER IS THEN DEDICATED TO THE EXEGESIS OF SELECTED PASSAGES OF JOHN'S GOSPEL - MOSTLY FROM THE PASSION NARRATIVE-, WHERE I SEARCH FOR THE HIDDEN HISTORY.

Die Arbeit ist durch das Projekt des Zentrums für die biblischen Studien (Prag) "Neutestamentliche Apokryphen in der tschechischen Übersetzung" inspiriert (Übersicht von den übersetzten Schriften: E.4). In der terminologischen Einleitung (A.1) plädiert der Autor für die Erhaltung der konservativen Bezeichnung "neutestamentliche Apokryphen" (Schneemelcher) und gegen die Einführung von den "christlichen Apokryphen" (Junod, Markschies). Place of Bible in Catechesis Schoolchildren (Perspective Silesian Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession)

The aim of the presented thesis is to explore the questions concerning the use of the Bible in the catechesis of children, and this in the context of the contemporary paradigm shifts in theology, sociology and religious education. The topic is analysed from a fourfold perspective: 1. historical, 2. theological, 3. empirical and 4. didactic, all of them on the background of the catechetical ministry of the Silesian Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession in the Czech Republic (SECAC). in the historical part, the models of the use of the Bible throughtout the history of catechesis are reviwed with the main emphasis on the history nad present state of the catechesis in the SECAC as well as on the 20th centurys religious education concepts in Germany and in the USA. The theological perpective examines the place and understandidng of the Bible in contemporary systematic theology nad hermeneutics. Empirical perspective enriches the discussion by the results of many field researches conducted with respect to the question of the Bible and catechesis. Freedom in the Letter to the Galatians: Eleutheria as a Soteriological Metaphor.

The dissertation entitled "Freedom in the Letter to the Galatians: Eleutheria as a Soteriological Metaphor" deals with the old Greek notion of freedom (eleutheria) from the perspective of one epistle of the apostle Paul. The aim of the study is to examine the thesis if, and to what degree, freedom is a soteriological metaphor in the letter to the Galatians. An exegetical-theological analysis all eleutheria statements in the letter is preceded by chapters on (§1.) the history of research, (§2.) basic definitions of the polysemous notion freedom, and (§3.) setting the letter in its literary and historical context. In the main part of the thesis five sections and arguments are examined in which we find altogether 11 eleutheria statements (Ga 2,3-5, 3,26-29; 4,21-31; 5,1 a 5,13-15). The analysis of all eleutheria statements provides the basis to answer the main research question: Is freedom in Galatians a soteriological metaphor? Chapter five (§5.) focuses on Pauline soteriology, offering a fundamental delimitation of the metaphor and integrates freedom among the key soteriological metaphors in the letter Galatians and in Pauline theology. The Strong and the Weak in Romans 14-15

The present diploma thesis is an exegetical attempt to interpret Paul's parenesis in his Letter to the Romans 14,1-15,13. It tries to find answers to the following questions: Who are the "strong in faith" (15:1)? Who are the "weak in faith" (14:1)? What "day" is meant in chapter 14:5? What kind of dietary restrictions are in the background of 14:2? What is the solution that Paul suggests? The analysis has led to the following conclusions: Paul is trying to resolve a particular dispute between two groups of believers in Rome. The "weak" probably had a problem with the "strong" eating the meat and drinking the wine defiled with idolatry (14:21) and not keeping fasting days, or certain Jewish feast days (14:3). So, the "weak" may be identified as the Jewish Christians and the "strong" with the Christians of gentile origins. Paul tries to move both groups away from judging each other (14:3) to respect the opinion of the other group (14:4) and leads them above all to mutually build loving relationships to each other (14:19).
