Epidemiology of hypersensitivity in patiens with atopic dermatitis and its clinical relevance MUDr. Martin Liška Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which is often accompanied by hypersensitivity to various allergens. While food allergens have been considered to play a major role in AD pathogenesis, there is also increasing evidence that aeroallergens are involved. The clinical relevance of detected hypersensitivity was also intensively investigated in last decades. Aims of the study: Our aim was to find out the frequency of hypersensitivity to airborne allergens in AD patients and its clinical relevance using various evaluation standards. Methods: We tested 71 patients (median age 5 years) with AD for hypersensitivity to grass and birch pollen, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae using atopy patch test (APT), skin prick test (SPT) and specific IgE measurement. The sensitivity (SE) and specificity (SP) of the tests were calculated on the basis of personal history of AD exacerbation, SCORAD changes and the number of days with need for topical anti- inflammatory treatment (AITD) in relation to exposure to the allergens being tested. Results: APT was positive in 45 patients, mostly to Der.farinae (n = 37). SPT and/or specific IgE were positive in 42...
Examination of Exhaled Nitrous Oxide as an Inflammatory Bioindicator of Atopy and Allergy in Children with Adenoid Hypertrophy
Rybnikár, Tomáš ; Hybášek, Ivan (advisor) ; Petrů, Vít (referee) ; Šlapák, Ivo (referee)
Introduction: Adenoids are common disease in childhood, especially at preschool age. The main symptoms of adenoids are nose obstruction, chronic rhinitis, cough, relapsing otitis media, sinusitis, sleeping disorders and otitis media with effusion. The nasal patency influences the nasal nitric oxid (nNO) concentration. However, there are only a few published data about concentration of nNO in patients with adenoids. Aims: The prospective study explores the influence of adenoids on nNO in children. The investigated parameters in probands are the age, atopic diseases, allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma. The results of nNO are compared with epipharyngoscopy, rhinomanometry and effect of adenoidectomy. Methods: The study was carried out on children with adenoids (n=105) at the age from 5 to 18 years old. The control group consists of 38 healthy children. All children underwent epipharyngoscopy, allergology examination including prick test and measurement of nNO and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FENO) by the chemoluminescence analyzer. Results: The concentration of nNO is lower in children with adenoids in comparison with healthy children. The nNO depression depends on size of adenoids. In 10 patients (9,5%) with adenoids the depression of nNO was under the screening limit for primary ciliary...
Comparison of Individual Performance in Intelligence Tests WAIS III and RPM (Raven's Progressive Matrices)
Petrů, Vít ; Soukupová, Tereza (advisor) ; Goldmann, Petr (referee)
This thesis deals with replacement of performative scale of Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (3rd revision) through Raven's standard progressive matrices. In the theoretical part introduces the concepts of intelligence, approaches to its exploration and intelligence tests. The theoretical part is also devoted to the description of the both used methods and presents an overview of the research on a similar theme as this work. In the empirical part of the thesis is processed data collected from 50 probands who underwent testing of the above tests. Data were processed by correlation and factor analysis. Conclusions of statistical processing are further developed in the empirical part. Discussion focuses on the reflection of the individual parts of the research, possibilities for future research and analysis of the limitations of this work Keywords: intelligence, Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices

Popularity of television series House, M.D.
Petrů, Vít ; Chrz, Vladimír (advisor) ; Smetáčková, Irena (referee)
The object in this thesis is to investigate why a television series House M.D. is so popular. Television series is conceived as a widely shared pop-culture artefact, which is a major proof how the human mind is shaped by and expressed through culture in terms of cultural psychology. The question of mechanisms, offers or content that are causing the popularity of this series is examined from the perspective of several psychological concepts. The popularity of the series was examined by the analysis of the artefact itself and additionally from the perspective of the viewers. This examination led to the conclusion that the popularity of the series House M.D. lies in several different aspects. The first aspect is seen in innovations this series brings to the viewer due to the traditional established form of medical drama. The second aspect is based on identifying, describing patterns and representing certain offers for various components of viewer ("products for the mind"). The third aspect lies in interpretation of the series as "sociodrama" that solves certain imaginary opposites. The fourth aspect is loosely based on Bamberg's theory of narrative positioning that on three levels shows how the character of doctor House is attractive to the viewer, what it provides and how the series reflects the...
