Postsecular turn in contemporary feminist theory
Ort, Jakub ; Barša, Pavel (advisor) ; Kobová, Ĺubica (referee) ; Spalová, Barbora (referee)
(English) The text elaborates on the discussion of the so-called post-secular turn in contemporary feminist theory. In doing so, it follows primarily the texts and thought of Judith Butler, Saba Mahmood, Joan Wallach Scott, but also William Connolly and Talal Asad. The discussion is first set in the political context of the debates on Islam and women's rights that have gained momentum since September 11, 2001 and have divided the feminist movement not only in Europe. I also explain the theoretical context of the debate, which involves a revision of some aspects of the secularization thesis, but also a critical examination of the seemingly self-evident and universal assumptions associated with the concept of secularity. I first analyze the relationship between feminism and secularity through the theme of progress and secular time and then through the theme of emancipation and the autonomy of the subject. I show the role that these basic Enlightenment elements play in contemporary discussions of religion and human rights, and how the authors reveal the limits and risks of their use in the contemporary context. I show that the actual willingness to step outside these frames of thought varies from author to author. Finally, I confront the authors with a critique of the post-secular turn and. I also ask...
The Death of Woman and the Impossibility of Feminism: Epistemological Conflicts in Western Feminist Thought
Trochtová, Kristýna ; Barša, Pavel (advisor) ; Ort, Jakub (referee)
The presented bachelor's thesis introduces a hypothesis of "the death of woman", which designates the condition of a radical epistemic and existential crisis in relation to the conventional subject of feminism, i.e. woman, which has happened as a result of exclusionary practices in the feminist movement and theory, as well as of the disintegration of the modern political subject. The thesis employs several selected conflicts that occured in Western feminist thought from the 1970s onwards and uses them as an illustration of feminism's inherent tendency to contradict and overcome itself. The following speculative thesis of "the impossibility of feminism" then reveals yet another layer of contradiction within the feminist project, namely the affective and libidinal limits of women's becoming-subject.
Religion and anti-immigration discourses. A comparative case study of the Czech republic and Germany
Jurčová, Alžběta ; Slačálek, Ondřej (advisor) ; Ort, Jakub (referee)
(in English): This thesis deals with role of religion within public sphere, in both theoretical and practical terms. In form of a comparative case study, it will analyze the relationship between the role of religion (especially various forms of Christianity) in the political culture of the Czech Republic and Germany, and in the intensity and form of Islamophobia in public debate in the two countries. The theoretical framework will have as its basis Roger Brubaker's concept of Christianism and Jürgen Habermas's idea of religion within public sphere. In both countries the author will analyse debate evolved around criticism of Charlie Hebdo's cartoons, emerged in the public discourse after the attacks on Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris in 2015, by analysing different media German and Czech outlets. In both countries she will analyse how references to religion and certain argumentative patterns have been used in the public debate and possibly how they influenced Muslim immigration discourse.
Jesus in Quran and in Islamic tradition
Mironova, Kira ; Hošek, Pavel (advisor) ; Ort, Jakub (referee)
The purpose of my thesis is not just to understand who Jesus Christ was in Koran and what role he played, but also to show that he was an important and respeted person not just in New Testament but also in the main book of Islam - Koran. Nowdays when Islamic radicals get in Christian lands and show themselves as true muslims doing disaster, profane people have bad opinion regarding the whole Islam in general and not every man knows that there is even written about Jesus in Koran. That's why I find important to create some kind of dialog between Islam and Christianity, to show that the most important person of Christian religion, Jesus, is respected in Koran, being human being, and to explain why Islam can't allow to take Jesus as divine being. Of course I will mention Marie - mother of Jesus, who is another important person in Christianity and Islam and who can't be mother of God in Islam. The resons why Jesus can'b be Allah's son will be mentioned as well. And also I will use comparing analysis of Muslim and Christian Jesus for better understanding who muslim Jesus is and what mission for humankind he already brought and will bring in future. The Relationship between Redemption and Emancipation in the Political Theology of J. B. Metz
Ort, Jakub ; Macek, Petr (advisor) ; Keřkovský, Pavel (referee)
This thesis, called The Relationship between Redemption and Emancipation in the Political Theology of J. B. Metz, concerns the political theology of J. B. Metz. The first part summarizes the influences, which shaped his theological thinking and it presents his concept of political theology. The next part asks a question about the relationship between the ideas of redemption and emancipation in Metz's theology. This is based on the interpretation of a chapter from his book, Glaube in Geschichte und Gesellschaft, which concerns the topic. But before the interpretation of Metz's text, the problems of relationship between the two terms and of their origin are described. The extent of the field of meaning of the term "emancipation" is illustrated by the examples of the thinking of Immanuel Kant, Karl Marx and Jürgen Habermas. A large part is dedicated to the figures of the Frankfurt school, Theodor Adorno and Walter Benjamin, and their specific approach to the idea of emancipation and the Enlightenment tradition. The final thesis rejects the opinion, that the ideas of emancipation and redemption in Metz's theology coincide too much and it puts stress on the importance of the term "history of suffering" for solving this problem of Metz's theology. Keywords political theology, J. B. Metz, emancipation,...
