Incidence of microtrauma in the Achilles tendon compared in athletic runners and swimmers using diagnostic ultrasonography
Novotný, Aleš ; Routner, Petr (advisor) ; Katolický, Jakub (referee)
9 ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: The Achilles tendon is the tendon with the most volume in the human body. It is capable of handling enormous loads, though it can be damaged with overuse. Overloading the Achilles tendon can lead to microtrauma, which can cause the development of Achilles tendinopathy. Diagnostic ultrasonography is used to investigate the incidence of microtrauma of the Achilles Tendon in runners and swimmers and whether there is any kind of correlation between their occurrence and training intensity. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine the presence of microtrauma in the Achilles tendon in a group of runners and swimmers using diagnostic ultrasonography. In addition to the observation of microtrauma, this study focuses on finding other Achilles tendon pathologies from overuse in runners and swimmers. This study seeks to increase awareness of the potential of using diagnostic ultrasonography in physiotherapy practice. METHODS: A total of 20 subjects (13 women and 7 men, mean age 22.6 ± 1.16 years) participated in this study. The subjects were divided into two groups of 10 swimmers and 10 runners each. Data collection was carried out at a private outpatient clinic at ALAFIA- RHB s.r.o. located in Parník Policlinic in Černý Most, Prague. The methodology for obtaining the personal data and sports...

The role of Nutritional Therapist in Education of Patients with Enteral Feeding Tubes
Dvořáková, Martina ; Meisnerová, Eva (advisor) ; Novotný, Aleš (referee)
Enteral nutrition is the only way for many patients to ensure a sufficient supply of nutrients. The bachelor thesis describes the indications as well as the contraindication of enteral nutrition. The chapter on composition of individual nutrition and possible application techniques is also included. I mention the possible complications associated with enteral nutrition, too. The greater part is then devoted to percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG). Enteral nutrition is for many patients only possibility how to survive. During my long practice on the gastroenterology clinic, I have found that there is insufficient educational material for patients with established PEG who are leaving home. Educating these patients how to apply enteral nutrition at home and take care of the probe is in our facility in the competence of a nutritional therapist because of the workload of nurses and their little experience with PEG. The aim of the empirical part was to create a clear educational material for patients, but also for the lower PEG care staff. Keyword: enteral nutrition, tube, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy
The options of nutritional support in inflamatory bowel disease
Polachová, Monika ; Meisnerová, Eva (advisor) ; Novotný, Aleš (referee)
In my bachelor's work I describe the idiopathic inflammatory bowel diseases. The theoretical part is devoted to the history, epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, basic characteristics of the disease and the current treatment options. One of the serious consequences of the inflammatory bowel diseases is malnutrition, which then affects the treatment, worsens the course of the disease and reduces the quality of life of patients. The cause of malnutrition in these patients is both inflammatory activity during a relapse, the side effects of drug therapy and reduced food intake due to the numerous diarrhea and abdominal pain. In the practical part I monitored the patients during my practice in gastroenterology clinic. The aim of my work was to determine what attention is paid to the state of nutrition of patients with severe course of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, which were indicated by the biological treatment. Monitoring of nutritional status, nutritional support and correction of malnutrition is an integral part of the treatment, during which a nutritional therapist plays an important role. Enteral nutrition is a form of a nutritional support which should be considered for malnourished patients or those at risk of a malnutrition who have a functioning gastrointestinal tract but are unable or unwilling to maintain adequate oral intake. This bachelor thesis discusses issues of the enteral nutrition - it's indications, contraindications, methods of delivering and possible complications. A big part of the thesis is dedicated to a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy which became the technique of choice to provide long-term enteral nutrition support and is nowadays one of the most popular approaches to the gastrointestinal tract for long term home enteral nutrition. The last part of the thesis shows the importance of the education of patients on a long- term enteral nutrition and provides a short guideline on how to properly educate them. Keywords: malnutrition, enteral nutrition, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, education
