From standards of living to quality of life: changes in analyzing and measuring of development of society after the crisis of 2008 and their projections in political strategies of Western states.
Kopečný, Ondřej ; Potůček, Martin (advisor) ; Loužek, Marek (referee) ; Hartl, Jan (referee)
In this dissertation thesis, I focus on changes in the assessment and measurement of quality of life and development after the crisis of 2008 and the reflection of these changes in the political strategies of Western countries. I follow up on the public debate and on many books and professional articles whose authors dealt with the causes of the crisis, with the reactions of governments and international institutions to its manifestations as well as with its effects on the quality of life of Western society. The thesis aims to find out whether the dramatic events of autumn 2008 led to a more significant change in Western society and its institutions, like many experts, politicians, and public figures expected at the beginning of the crisis. First, I focus in this context on the analysis of institutions, which is based primarily on the study of strategic documents, books, and proceedings published after the crisis as well as on articles published in the world media. Subsequently, I engage in the analysis of social preferences, for which I use data on subjective quality of life collected within the European Quality of Life Survey. The results of the institution's analysis show that economic growth is still considered (even after the crisis) a major condition for the development of Western countries...

Vobořilová, Michaela ; Šubrt, Jiří (advisor) ; Loužek, Marek (referee)
Bakalářská práce se tematicky vztahuje ke koncepcím dvou osobností - Maxe Webera, jenž nastoluje problém ekonomické kultury kapitalismu ve své práci Protestantská etika a duch kapitalismu, a Petera L. Bergera, který Weberovy předpoklady rozvíjí. Cílem práce je kritická analýza a porovnání názorů na danou problematiku. Práce má teoretickou povahu a je vypracována historicko-srovnávací metodou. Abstract The bachelor thesis topic relates to the concepts of two personalities - Max Weber who presents the problem of the economical culture of capitalism in his work The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, and Peter L. The political business cycle
Svoboda, Martin ; Loužek, Marek (advisor) ; Vlček, Josef (referee)
The main aim of my thesis was to describe the basic resources of political-business cycle and elements which have an influence on it. The tendency to put this phenomenon to a wider context showed us that the political-business cycle is affected by the type of electoral system, increasing power of special interest groups or bureaucratic system. Among the economic elements we can include restrictions of the Government to conduct a monetary policy because of central bank independence. Application of theoretical knowledge to conditions of the Czech Republic proved to be very problematical. Due to the economical transformation the political and economic system in our country demonstrated in non-standard conditions which made the empirical testing of political-business cycle more difficult. In connection with this also comes a problem of short time series which significantly reduces the possibility of any relevant comparison.

Modernization in Michel Foucault's works. Comparison with classic and postmodern authors
Brolík, Tomáš ; Šubrt, Jiří (advisor) ; Loužek, Marek (referee)
Bachelor thesis dwells on description of processes of modernization and rationalization in Michel Foucault's works and juxtaposes it to works of classical and postmodern sociologists. In the first, most voluminous part it describes inception of modern discipline and changes of disciplinating institutions (school, garrison house, factory,...) as it Foucault did especially in his book Discipline and Punish. Aside from description of disciplinating techniques it studies Foucault's analysis of power. In the second part the work studies similar topics in works of Max Weber and Norbert Elias. In Weber's thoughts are foremost interesting the modern bureaucracy and self-disciplination in Protestantism. In Elias works it is process of civilization, especially on individual, psychogenetics level. In the third part it dwells on postmodern actualizations of Foucault's conceptions (panoptism, dicsiplinated bodies) in Zygmunt Bauman's works. The last part it tries to find out some interesting accordances and contradictions in works of these authors and it asks whether Foucault's ideas, valid for the time of Enlighting, are valid today as well.
A comparison of economic thought of Alois Rašín and Karel Engliš
Srnský, Karel ; Loužek, Marek (advisor) ; Šubrt, Jiří (referee)
This thesis is focused on a comparison of economic thought Alois Rašín and Karel Engliš. Alois Rašín and Karel Engliš were the most influential economist of the First Czechoslovak republic. They became three times the Finance minister. Rašín was a minister 14th November to 8th July 1919 and after that from 7th October 1922 to 18th February 1923. Engliš was minister between 25th May 1920 and 21st March 1921. Unfortunately, Alois Rašín was mortally wounded in the assassination, and that is why this thesis follows only a period from 1918 to 1923. Firstly it focuses their early life, and we try to answer the question: How they became the most influential economist of the First Czechoslovak republic? The central part of this thesis focus one's attention on their agreement and disagreement about currency separation, budgets, construction of the Czechoslovak crown and deflation. Keys worlds Alois Rašín, Karel Engliš, Czechoslovakia, Czechoslovak crown, Ministry of finance, currency separation, deflation,
Transformation of the energy market after year 2011.
Vomáčka, Roman ; Loužek, Marek (advisor) ; Maule, Petr (referee)
As part of the fight against global warming, the European Union has opted for increase in support for renewable energy at the cost of conventional sources. This policy was subsequently implemented into national legislation. At the same time, the Czech Republic has framed an Updated State Energy Policy, which sets out the direction for Czech energy to evolve. This thesis tries to analyze whether the Czech Republic is ready for future energy development or not. This analysis shows that the Czech Republic is not entirely ready to provide energy stability in the context of a transforming market.
Climate Skepticism in the Czech Republic: Countermovement and Its Strategies
Vidomus, Petr ; Loužek, Marek (advisor) ; Strmiska, Maxmilián (referee) ; Vráblíková, Kateřina (referee)
The climate change skepticism has been becoming a more and more distinct and apparently increasing social phenomenon. To date, western scholars have described the different forms it can take and the factors supporting its increase. In the recent years, we've been observing some signs of a similar trend in the Czech Republic because the number of people who find the anthropogenic climate changes significant has been decreasing and the proportion of the "skeptic population" has been growing. Although in the first part of this paper I present an overview of data concerning the "public climate change skepticism" (available poll data), its primary focus is on the research of activities carried out by individuals and groups that relativize the importance of climate changes constantly, publically and in a more or less organized manner. In such case we can talk about a certain form of a countermovement against the environmentalism and the mainstream climatology. This paper draws mainly from a qualitative study conducted between 2011 and 2014 by means of semi-structured interviews with active Czech climate change skeptics. The goal of the study was to describe the strategies of climate change skeptics actions in the changing political and discursive environment, the forms of their organization and the...
