ZnO nanoparticles have been synthesized using non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma (ZnO-NTP). We investigated the behavior of these ligand-free as a colloid suspension using different solvents, from deionized water to physiological saline and microbial culture broth. We found that the zeta potential of ZnONTP became more negative after exposure to microbial culture broth relative to water, which suggests increased colloid stability. Photoluminescence spectra of ZnO-NTP were similar regardless of liquid type, yet optical and fluorescent images of samples showed different agglomeration behaviour depending on liquid type. Scanning electron microscopy images revealed large agglomerates of ZnO-NTP interacting with the surface of bacteria cells, ranging in size from 200 nm up to 2 µm. We also studied effect of sub-lethal concentrations of ZnO-NTP on bacteria under illumination. There was no significant difference in viable bacteria concentration after 24h exposure to 10 µg/mL ZnO-NTP.

The time and problem of fleshliness
Jíra, Jaromír ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Schlegelová, Jaroslava (referee)
This thesis " The time and problem of fleshliness" defines the concept of body as alive phenomenon, so called Pexis. This body is non-objective, and specifical nature of this body is its overrun to the surrounding world. This overrun is made by live experience and there is necessarily time process attached to this experience. This text is comparing this body (Pexis) with objective conception of body which we can observe in postmodern society, the text is focused on reasons and effects of this objective conception. There is the conception of body in this text, which can be spotted in many others acctual problems of todays world.
Comparison of microbial interactions of zinc oxide nanomaterials in various size and shape
Rutherford, D. ; Jíra, J. ; Mičová, J. ; Remeš, Zdeněk ; Hsu, H.S. ; Rezek, B.
Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NP) have shown great potential as a novel antibacterial material at a time when resistance towards conventional antibiotics is becoming more prevalent. We report bacteria inactivation by ZnO NP with novel hedgehog-like morphology using model gram-negative (E. coli) and gram-positive (S. aureus) bacteria. E. coli exposed to the novel ZnO hedgehog NP during growth resulted in 4 orders of magnitude reduction in viable cell concentration after 24 h, which is more than 2 orders higher reduction compared to commercially available ZnO NPs with nominal sizes from 50 nm to 20 um. There was a positive correlation between hedgehog NP concentration and bacteria cell concentration reduction within the range tested 0.1 – 1.0 mg/mL. S. aureus was less sensitive to ZnO NP exposure and inactivation effect of various ZnO NP, was comparable. The effect can be thus attributed to direct mechanical damage of the bacterial mebrane that is the most effective for the novel hedgehog ZnO NP. This conclusion was corroborated also by disk diffusion assays.\n

Digital Cinema Distribution
Richterová, Zuzana ; Danielis, Aleš (advisor) ; Borovan, Pavel (referee) ; Jíra, Jan (referee)
Diploma work Digital Cinema Distribution covers the conjunction of digital methods of distribution of films to cinemas by only current standards for cinemas issued by Hollywood Digital Cinema Initiative founded in 2002 (Digital Cinema System Specifications 2005 - separate enclosure to the diploma work) in cooperation with European Digital Cinema Forum founded in 2001. The diploma work maps the changes and influences of digital cinema distribution on the form of movie production, security of movie distribution rights, daily operation of each subject in the current national film industry, the audience and at last the films - its content. The diploma work also offers specific examles and experiences how digital cinema distribution works worldwide. At the time of its writing, 2006 sees the digital cinema distribution as the alternative to the traditional distribution with the vision of its future in the film industry.
Numerické modelování ochranných sportovních přileb
Kunecký, Jiří ; Jíra, J.
The paper describes development of advanced methods used in research of protective devices. Explicit FE analysis is used for modeling of drop tests. Drop tests are one of common testing procedures used in the standards and are intended for testing of device's protective properties. If we were able to assess the acceleration history from numerical analysis with given geometry and material properties, we can also perform optimization procedure and design optimal protective helmet.
MKP analýza únosnosti vícevrstvého železničního podloží
Jiroušek, Ondřej ; Kunecký, Jiří ; Jíra, J. ; Horníček, L.
Numerical investigation of bearing capacity of railway substructure using finite element method and laboratory experiments is presented. A set of parametric FE models is built and unified approach for assessment of bearing capacity of the construction presented. Results are presented in terms of design graphs, where for every type of substructure design resulting bearing capacity is evaluated. Presented methodology is easily extensible for reinforcing effects of layer inclusion, geogrid placement or use of cemented layers.
Interakce pánevní kosti a acetabulární komponenty s nerovnoměrnou cementovou vrstvou

The article deals with contact stress analysis of pelvic bone after implantation of cemented acetabular component with imperfections of cemented layer. 3D high resolution FE model of pelvic bone was created from the sequence of CT–slices. Boolean operations were used for inserting the spherical cemented component. Cemented component was eccentrically inserted into the pelvic bone and that created imperfection as non-uniform cement layer.
