Psychological aspects of the transformation of gender role of transgenders in Czech context
Čechová, Helena ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Hrubý, Radovan (referee)
The thesis presents the processes of gender role transition and sex reassignment from the perspectives of psychology, medicine, and sociology. Its main focus is on the various aspects influencing the psyche of a person undertaking transition. The thesis investigates why trans identity is commonly viewed as a pathology and the impact of pathologization on the self-perception of trans people. Furthemore, the traditional outline of the transition process in Czech sexology is compared to some current international approaches. A section of the text addresses psychotherapy as a key factor in transition. A significant component of the thesis is that it takes a sociocultural viewpoint on gender identity and gender roles. One of the goals is to understand how medical experts dealing with trans identity conceptualize transition and how trans people themselves conceptualize it. The overall aim is to investigate how both of these sides influence each other and what psychological aspects enter the processes of gender role transition and sex reassignment. Key words: transsexuality, transgender, sex reassignment, gender identity, gender role.
Approaches to Dream Reality and Content of Transsexual Peoples' Dreams
Šubrt, Miroslav ; Hrubý, Radovan (advisor) ; Doubek, David (referee)
The subject of this study are dreams, specifically their content in transgender people. The study asks if the content of their dreams could be interpreted in the context of their lives. It submits a summary of historical approaches to dreaming and views of the major psychological schools. The presented empirical research has a character of a triple case study while the mixed design was used and it is based on assumption of Hall's continuity hypothesis. The core of this work is use of a dream content analysis created by Hall and Van de Castle on dream series produced by one transgender FtM person in order to seek differences in many indexes from norms. Analysis revealed many differences from male norms, especially in the Familiar Setting Percent and Dead and Imaginary Percent. The quantitative part is accompanied by a qualitative content analysis which was applied to the dreams of already mentioned person and remaining two MtF participants. It showed themes related to confusion of mental and physical identity, doubts and interpersonal conflicts which are, according to the author, directly related to transsexuality. Dream Content Analysis in Czech Female Students
Šubrt, Miroslav ; Hrubý, Radovan (advisor) ; Doubek, David (referee)
The thesis overviews a variety of approaches to understanding of dreams, covering the historical perspectives as well as the perspectives of modern psychologists and psychological schools. It presents information on quantitative analysis of dream content and possibilities of the use of statistical methods in dream research. It introduces the results of the research into the dream content in 100 Czech female psychology students, using the method developed by Hall and Van de Castle. The comparison of these results with a similar group of US female students revealed several differences: The Czech students reported slightly more Aggresion/Friendliness Percent, significantly more unknown environments and moderately more dreams containing aggression and efforts. Compliance with the American sample was shown mainly by percentages regarding the type of characters, negative emotions ratio and the percentage of physical aggression compared to non-physical. Correlation analysis applied to data revealed a moderate relationship between variables suggesting possible explanations of dream content. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
