The Interpretation Process betwen Czech and Portuguese Language: an Approach Towards Selected Linguistic Problems

The present thesis, The Interpretation Process between Czech and Portuguese Language: an Approach Towards Selected Linguistic Problems, analyses the two languages belonging to different language families from the interpreter's point of view. The Introduction gives rea- sons for choosing the topic and outlines the general structure of the thesis. Chapter 1 (Lan- guages and Interpreting) delineates theoretical issues pertinent to language typology accord- ing to Skalička, comparing the structures of Czech and Portuguese, and outlines a basic intro- duction to interpreting. The principal subject is defined as selected linguistic problems that intepreters have to deal with when working with Czech and Portuguese. Chapter 2 (Transla- tion Procedures) focuses on methods and procedures of translation, in particular those pro- posed by Vinay and Darbelnet. Chapter 3 (Morphology and Syntax) gives a contrastive analy- sis with sample translations of substantives, adjectives, pronouns and articles in both lan- guages. The last chapter (lexicology) describes some phenomena related to lexical questions (interferences, synonymy and phraseology). The literature of Francophone Caribbean writers in Czech translations

The present thesis focuses on French Caribbean fiction writers (from Haiti, Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guiana) in Czech translations. The principal subject of the thesis are the specific challenges that translators have to face when translating these authors into Czech. The description of these challenges is preceded by a general presentation of this type of literature. Chapter 1 traces the development of French Caribbean literature (the concepts of francité, négritude, antillanité, créolité and littérature-monde) and defines its characteristic features (especially communication settings and language choices) from the point of view of postcolonial theories. Chapter 2 adds more features by using the comparison of literary translation and postcolonial writing, revealing that they share certain principles and methods. Specific questions and challenges related to the translation of Caribbean literature are also treated in this chapter. Chapter 3 addresses the issue of French Caribbean fiction in the Czech Republic. It lists sources of information, published translations and reactions to these translations in Czech press and analyses the Czech literary market. Semiotics of note-taking in consecutive interpreting

The present thesis focuses on semiotic aspects of note-taking in consecutive interpreting, in particular with respect to the process of semiosis and factors influencing the interpreters' conception of their notes. Chapter 1 mentions the basic features of note-taking in order to trace its semiotic characteristics in the following parts of the thesis. In Chapter 2, the notes as a specific semiotic system are briefly discussed within the framework of the second Peircean trichotomy of signs (cases of iconicity, indexicality and symbolicity are demonstrated) and in terms of their function, productivity and spatial settings. After these general considerations, Chapter 3 introduces the main theoretical approaches to the technique of note-taking (principally those of the Geneva and Heidelberg schools) including the issues of the languages involved in interpreting or the nature of signs. As the accent is on the process of semiosis (apprehension of signs by interpreters, generating signs according to the meaning of the speech and searching for the motivation for the interpreters' concrete choices of signs and their form), the chapter lists some basic signs and methods well- tested by practitioners. Commented translation: Histoire du chien (Roger Béteille, PUF: Paris, 1997)

The work Commented Translation: Histoire du chien contains a translation of two chapters of a French book called Histoire du chien (History of dogs; Roger Béteille, Paris: Presses Universitares de France, 1997, p. 25-37, 83-94) and its commentary. The introduction to the work includes the basic information about its structure and about the translated text and it also explains the author's reasons for choosing this text. The next part is the translation itself which consists of two chapters: "Insertion of dogs into the contemporary society" and "The dog and the war". The third part of the work analyses the original text on different levels from the situational and contextual point of view as a popularization book written in a modern language for today's French readers by using some dynamic elements. The analysis is followed by the commentary itself of the translation. The author treats the difficulties characteristic for this text she encountered with when translating (next to the divergences between the language systems, the question of transposing the French reality to the Czech background and problems linked with the concision of the text are discussed), the last part of the commentary summarizes the methods used in this translation and discrepancies between the original and the target text. The bachelor's thesis is focused on analysing of financing of non-governmental non-profit organisation. In the theoretical part is shortly defined the non-profit sector and its position in the economy. Then are described the ways of financing of these organizations and at the end of these part is defined the financial analysis of the non-profit organization. The practical part of bachelor's thesis is focused on the ways of financing and the financial analysis of the civil organization Spolocnost Downovho syndromu na Slovensku.
