Audio Drama in Czech Radio: From Radio Plays to Radio Drama Podcasts
Cypriánová, Barbora ; Groman, Martin (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
This master thesis traces the development of radio plays and other drama works produced by Czech (Czechoslovak) Radio. First, it presents the development in this field from its beginnings about a hundred years ago to the present day. In the practical part (mainly due to the lack of material from earlier times) it then focuses on radio production from the 1960s onwards. The research focuses on whether and how drama radio production reflects the social and socio- political issues of the time period. This thesis uses particular radio plays and other works to show how they reflected these themes or how they constructed them in their own way depending on the time period. The qualitative analysis examined 22 original radio plays, 6 episodes of 1 radio series, and 3 episodes of 1 drama podcast. The theoretical basis for the research is provided by chapters on social construction of reality, the representation of reality in media, and a summary of Miloslav Petrusek's reflections on the sociology of literature, which we apply to the field of radio drama.

Incorporating commercial communication is also the main focus of the following part of the thesis where podcast monetization is discussed. The main topic of the research is the amount of commercial partnerships or the podcaster's own product promotions in Czech podcasts, as well as the way they are carried out. For further context, the thesis also presents other ways of monetization used by Czech podcasters. The research was conducted with the use of content analysis of selected podcasts.
