Anteromedial wedge reduction osteotomy as a new surgical procedure in treatment of Morbus Perthes
Burian, Michal ; Dungl, Pavel (advisor) ; Havlas, Vojtěch (referee) ; Gallo, Jiří (referee)
Morbus Perthes (LCP) is an idiopathic defect in the blood flow of the proximal femoral epiphysis, where morphological and functional pathologies of the hip joint occur. Unfavorable prognostic factors include aspheric and incongruent hip, often manifested by the appearance of hinge abduction. The head is no longer remodeling after "golden" period of remodellation. Anteromedial Wedge Reduction Osteotomy (AWRO) is a new surgical method to improve the shape and reduce the femoral head and thus extend the life of a significantly altered hip joint. We evaluated 10 patients after the AWRO and established 3 hypotheses, in the clinical part of the study. 1st hypothesis "AWRO leads to the reshape of the head" was confirmed following the Stulberg's classification. 2nd hypothesis "AWRO leads to a reduction in the mediolateral diameter of the head", was confirmed by measuring the capitodiaphyseal index, which was reduced in all femoral heads after AWRO. The 3rd hypothesis "Harris Hip Score improved in medium-term follow up...

TITLE: Sudeten-German Nationalist Sports Associations and Czech State in the years 1918-1938 ABSTRACT: This dissertation deals with activities of Sudeten-German sports associations which had an negative approach towards the state. Their activities regularly provoked reactions from the state authorities and so it is possible to track down a whole genesis of mutual relations between the Czech state and individual associations in the archives. Among the most important sports associations was DTV Union. This union played an important part in the history of interwar Czechoslovakia, not only in the field of sport but also in the political sphere. Many top leaders of Sudeten-German political representation came from its ranks. Among the most famous Konrad Henlein, Karl Hermann Frank, Walter Brand and many others. Apart from DTV Union this dissertation also describes the most militant Sudeten-German sports association Volksport, which in that time became a synonym for the threat of rising Nacizm. The activities of Sudeten-German negative oriented sports associations had a significant influence on the course of events in Czechoslovak state in the second half of the 1930's and their anti-Czech attitudes culminated during the year 1938 and especially during the period of Munich Agreement. AIMS: The aim of the...

Pitcher Plants and Their Use in Teaching Botany
Burian, Michal ; Hrouda, Lubomír (advisor) ; Srba, Miroslav (referee)
The major objective of this thesis are carnivorous plants of the genus Nepenthes and their pedagogical and educational usage addressing students of elementary and grammar schools. The first part provides a general description of the Nepenthes plants, often called tropical pitcher plants due to their pitcher-shaped leaves that function as a passive pitfall trap. Moreover, the field research on the Nepenthes digestive fluid acidity was undertaken at Borneo. Plant's acidity was measured by the pH meter with glass electrode. The results obtained prove pH level differences for various Nepenthes species. In addition, pH level differences in between the fluid from freshly opened pitcher and an older fluid were observed. All results are cross-validated with the values reported in literature. On the basis of the results of the field research, didactic part is assembled. The didactic part consists of the Nepenthes general description and proposal of educational activities aiming at the botany popularization in elementary and grammar schools. Subsequently, the method proposed is tested in biology classes of the second grade of elementary school. The results reveal a positive influence of the method on student's interest in botany.
