The influence of propaganda in writtings of chosen autors of the first half of the 20th century

IN MY THESIS, I WANT TO FOCUS ON THE INFLUENCE OF PROPAGANDA IN THE WORKS OF CHOSEN AUTHORS OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY. IN THE THEORETICAL PART, I AM GOING TO TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE IDEOLOGY ITSELF AND PUT IT INTO BROADER CONTEXT. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THEORETICALLY ANALYSE THE CHOSEN AUTHORS AND THEIR WORKS. IN THE PRACTICAL PART I AM GOING TO FOCUS ON THE SELECTED WORKS, NAMELY GORKIJ'S МАТЬ, OSTROVSKY'S Как закалялась сталь AND OTHERS, AND ANY INFLUENCE (NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE) OF THE POLITICS ON RUSSIAN LITERATURE. THE AIM OF MY THESIS IS TO CONFIRM OR DISPROVE THE DEGREE OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE SOCIALISTIC POWER ON THE CHOSEN WORKS AND IMPARTIALLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF THE PROPAGANDISTIC WORK. I came to the conclusion that the quality of the official soviet works can differ substantially. On Maxim Gorky's example I showed more complex wording and I focused on the religious layer on his sample work Mother. On the contrary, in Nikolai A. Ostrovsky's How the Steel Was Tempered I confirmed the simplicity of the work. Unofficial authors in my work help to better express the motives and the attitude of socialistic realism. On the translation of The Thunderstorm by Vladimir Nabokov

The diploma thesis offers an analysis of a unique set of texts. The analysis explores the language devices used in the composition of the texts. The set of texts includes a short story Groza by Vladimir Nabokov and its translations. The short story was originally written in Russian, and then translated by the author into English. There exist two Czech translations, one from Russian, one from English. The thesis presents a theoretical framework for the analysis. It is composed of two parts. The first one summarizes the most frequent translation related changes in meaning. The second one compares Nabokov's theory and practice of translation. The theoretical framework is applied to the comparison of the target-language texts with the source-language texts, as well as to the comparison of the two translations from different source-language texts. Comparison of the results of the analysis with the hypotheses stated in the Introduction affirms the movement of the meaning towards stylistic neutrality and shows the influence of the source-language upon the target-language. On the other hand it rejects the statement that Nabokov as a self-translator wanted to preserve the literary qualities of the text, being ready to sacrifice its language qualities. Passion Themes in the Early Stories of Chekhov

This bachelor thesis is specifically concerned with the genre of Easter story within the work of A. P. Chekhov. In view of the fact that it represents a relatively broad topic, the author primarily concentrates on the early writer's work. The theoretical part deals with the significance of Easter in relation to Russian cultural archetype and the formation, development and characteristics of Russian Easter story in the context of as it is called "holiday" literature. The main goal of the practical part is to put an interpretation on selected stories by means of the text analysis, to identify key motifs and innovative techniques, which were used by the author as a reaction to the crisis of the genre and also as attributes of his literary expression anticipating the modern literary movements. Author's innovative stylistics is characterized by ambivalence, laconism, tragicomic features, new narrative techniques and genre experiments. Concluding findings have been made on the basis of the analysis of separate stories showing Chekhov's poetics, his overall approach revealing humanistic message of author's Easter stories, Chekhov's concept of religious belief and Orthodox Church.

Petr Chaadaev's reflection about Russian's destinies through the example of his first philosophical letter, Russian Empire, history

In this following work we will look into the views of the great Russian thinker of the first part of XIX century, Petr YakovlevichChaadaev on the destiny of Russia and its connection to the general European development. The research is happening with connection to historical events and social ideals, that were typical for this particular epoch, also using the biographical facts and authors literary work. Particular attention is being paid to : The Westernizer movement, The Slavophiles, The Masonic order, The Patriotic War of 1812 and the Revolt of the Decembrists. Chaadaev's thoughts are being analyzed on the example of the First Philosophic Letter. The author of this work is trying to establish whether the thoughts and writings of philosopher Chaadaev about historical development and the mission of the big Eurasian State that are being addressed to the future generations are still relevant.

Dialogue with Dostoyevsky in works by Egon Hostovsky

This final thesis deals with the important work of Czech author of psychological prose Egon Hostovsky and influences on him, which seemed in his literary work. The aim of this thesis is to determine to what extent Hostovský inspired other authors, especially its greatest literary icons F.M. Dostojevsky. To achieve the objective has been selected method based on a comprehensive analysis Hostovsky's the most significant books in terms of literary theory and history. The focus was placed mainly on his early works, where the influence of Dostoyevsky is most marked. This thesis gives a comprehensive comparison Hostovsky's creation with the work of Dostoyevsky, focusing on formal and semantic aspects of literary works of both authors. The first chapter focuses on the specifics of Hostovsky formation and is divided into six sections, each deals with one literary-theoretical aspect, so it consists language means, space- time, description of the characters, narratives and central themes and motifs. To the conclusion of this chapter is attached feedback of Hostovsky's work in our country and in the world. Czech Translations of Alexander Blok's Poem The Twelve

The detailed comparative analysis of four Czech translations of Alexander Blok's poem The twelve is at the crux of this diploma thesis. Concurrently, it sets the assessment of translation mastery of each translation based on criteria of poetry translation as defined by the signifiant Czech theorecian Jiří Levý. Aesthetic interpretaton of the poem and the description of distinctive features of Block's poetry precede the main part of the thesis. The author comes to a conclusion only two of the translations can be called acceptable to present-day readers (Vojtěch Jestřáb's and Václav Daněk's translations). Nevertheless, the translation by Bohumil Mathesius has a certain aesthetic quality, and if it is looked at from a historical perspective it can be appraised as succeful translation work. The very first translation by young Czech poet Jaroslav Seifert satisfies current poetry translation criteria the least. But there is also an another reason for it: both the Seifert's and Mathesius's translations are greatly influenced by the former language standard (the language obsolescence manifests itself at differet levels). Joseph Brodsky and the Czech Republic

The thesis follows the emergence of Joseph Brodsky`s work in the Czech Republic, it comments on the very first publications. The author enumerates and describes all of the Czech translations: poetic and prosaic (essays, dramas and dialogues) . Present work proposes very detailed analysis of translated poetry (translations were made by different authors from 1960`s till nowadays), characterizes stylistic approaches, methods of translation and provides comparison. The author gives information about Saint-Petersburg`s meetings of Joseph Brodsky and Václav Daněk - Czech poet and his further translator. On the basis of interviews, dialogues and memoires of the contemporaries the work illustrates poet`s attitude to famous people of Czech culture; it also mentions poetic translations of Joseph Brodsky made from Czech language. The work demonstrates Brodsky`s opinion on the creation of good translation. Also the author presents a number of Czech articles devoted to Josepf Brodsky and his work.

The bachelor thesis is devoted to the comparison of the selected works by N. M. Karamzin and K. H. Mácha. The aim of work is to find out the way how the literature used to develop throughout classicism to the climax of preromanticism and turn to realism in different historical circumstances. The theoretical part is dedicated to the characteristics of European historic and literal approach of the second half of the XIIX and the beginning of XIX centrury. The practical part analyses key motives and symbols of Karamzin's novels Poor Lisa and Bornholm Island and Mácha's poem May and novel Marinka.
