Drought as a topic in geography teaching
Navrátilová, Denisa ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kocová, Tereza (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the teaching of the issue of drought, which in recent years has significantly affected the territory of the Czechia. With the ongoing climate change, it is necessary to prepare for more significant extremes of weather, which will be demonstrate by the longer periods of droughts, which consequences will be highlight by inappropriate anthropogenic interventions and improper water management. Therefore, it is important to include this issue in school education, so that students realize that our territory is also endangered by this problem, what are its causes and that they themselves can contribute to their mitigation. The main aim of this thesis is to create a model teaching dealing with the issue of drought. The questionnaire survey found out that major part of teachers devotes at least part of the lessons to the topic and that the main cause of non-devotion is lack of time and fear of incorrect grasping of the topic. A number of respondents were contacted based on the questionnaire survey, with whom semi-structured interviews were organized in order to obtain more detailed information and obtain examples of good practice. Within the questionnaires and interviews was investigate issue of the occurrence of misconceptions among pupils and work with them. Based on all the...
Typology of soundscapes
Hofman, Milan ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Dolejš, Martin (referee)
More and more attention of scientists and artists is paid to the effect of sound to human and ecosystems. Due to technology development and growing urgency of human impact new approaches are being formed. This thesis is based on concepts of acoustics ecology by R. M. Schafer. In addition to noise mapping, Czech geographical research does not reflect the growing urgency of sound environment issues. In this thesis I present terminology, concepts and some methods which are used in acoustic ecology or soundscape ecology. A literature search shows the application of these terminology, concepts and methods in a geographical research, specifically in urban and landscape planning, geography of tourism, leisure, health geography or landscape ecology. In an empirical part I followed a pioneering idea of acoustic landscape typology. I used qualitative research, listening walk and narrative conversation, to obtain data about soundscapes. Through these data I critically evaluated and compared acoustic typology of landscape by Hendrych and Hynek (2008). I used recording of soundscapes and spectrograms as secondary methods. Recordings and spectrograms are availabled in ArcGIS Online application. I found out the typology according to Hendrych and Hynek appropriately describes soundscapes from the perspective of...
The Long Jump on the Modern Olympic Games and other International Competitions
Matějček, Tomáš ; Kolář, František (advisor) ; Kaplan, Aleš (referee)
Title: A long jump at the modern Olympic Games and other international competitions Subtitle: Personalities and records Objectives: The aim of the thesis is to monitor and analyse individual personalities who at modern Olympic Games and other international top competitions (World Championships, European Championships, Diamond League) pushed forward the record in the long jump, both in relation to the development of the jump technique and other factors affecting the discipline. The work deals more with the athletes themselves and their medallions than with the development of the discipline. Methods: The analysis method was used in the work. The analysis was carried out on results in the long jump from 1896, i.e. from the first modern Olympic Games to 2021. The change in the world record and its evolution, as well as the change in its holders, were analysed in the reporting period. Other personalities who made history in the long jump were also followed. Results: Records in the long jump has changed at international competitions depending on changes in training methods, technique, material and external conditions. Keywords: long jump; olympic games; world record; athletics
Environmental impacts of transport modes
Cepník, Adam ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kolařík, Petr (referee)
Environmental impacts of transport are currently often discussed, especially in relation to the so-called flygskam, which is a trend encouraging voluntary refusal of using air transport because of its environmental impacts. It is the target of this thesis to compare greenhouse gas emissions produced by various means of transport in three model situations from daily life. The model situations are commute to school or work, trip abroad on land and a transoceanic trip. Algorithms used to calculate the emissions in the individual situations are also used to construct an interactive emission calculator in Microsoft Excel environment. Key words: greenhouse gas emissions, personal transport, calculator, flygskam, comparison
The spread of invasive neophytes in the riparian vegetation of the Kamenice river
Holzknechtová, Nikola ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bartoš, Jan (referee)
Watercourses and especially their riparian vegetation are habitats that are very sensitive to spreading of invasive plant species. Rivers create natural migration routes (corridors) and help propagules to spread quickly and easily. The theoretical part of this thesis is focused on plant invasions and covers also the most recent knowledge in the field of invasion ecology. In the practical part of this thesis the spread of invasive neophytes in the riparian vegetation of the Kamenice river in Northern Bohemia is described. The plant species were examined during the field survey along the entire stream of the Kamenice river. In total, common occurence of 7 invasive taxa were recorded, namely Impatiens parviflora, I. glandulifera, Reynoutria japonica, R. sachalinensis, R. bohemica, Solidago gigantea and S. canadensis. The distribution of observed taxa along the stream as well as on the banks was relatively uneven.
The invasive neophytes' occurrence in the riverbank vegetation
Matějček, Tomáš
The aim of this thesis is to summarize actual results of the field research of invasive neophytes' occurrence in the riverbank vegetation of selected water courses in the Czech Republic. In total approximately 850 km of the riverbank vegetation was mapped using author's own method. The occurrence of invasive neophytes (17 taxons) was registered for each of the 500 m long segments (in total 1693 segments was mapped). The number of specimen was registered using a logarithmical scale. Segments were defined using river navigation or important points of orientation (e. g. bridges or weirs). Total number of taxons, total number of specimen, simple index of invasive neophytes load (Is) and weighted index of invasive neophytes load (Iw) were calculated for each segment. The number of specimen was derived from registered values such as the mean value of the interval. The weighted index of invasive neophytes' load takes into account plant size, it's life history and potencial risk for indigenous flora or people and human activities. The number of specimen of each taxon is weighted by certain coefficient. The value of weighted index of invasive neophytes' load and some other characteristics are presented for parts of the water courses (i. e. groups of neighbouring segments with similar geographical and...
Evaluation of Slovak geography textbooks in terms of approach to environmental ethics
Čechová, Aneta ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bartoš, Jan (referee)
This bachelor's thesis pursues Slovak geography textbooks for secondary schools in the aspects of their attitude towards environmental ethics. It investigates the ratio of differently oriented statements in particular textbooks. The statements are distributed into five principal categories of environmental ethics - anthropocentrism, theocentrism, biocentrism, ecocentrism and ethical evolution. The author compares the findings of this thesis with the findings of analogical thesis which dealt with Czech geography textbooks.
The spread of invasive neophytes in the riparian vegetation of the Úpa River
Tomeš, Miroslav ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Flašarová, Kristýna (referee)
The presented bachelor thesis deals with the distribution of invasive neophytes in the riparian vegetation of the East Bohemian river Úpa and compares the findings with other streams. In the practical part, in the summer of 2020, the occurrence and abundance of 17 selected taxa of invasive neophytes in segments with a length of 500 m are monitored, for statistical evaluation merged into sections 2-3.5 km long. In almost 60 km of vegetation (in the sum of both banks) there are 7 taxa of invasive neophytes with different degrees of representation. Unequivocally dominant is in terms of the absolute number and share of occupied segments the taxon Impatiens parviflora occurring in almost the entire mapped area. Reynoutria sp., I. glandulifera and Solidago sp., which are concentrated in certain localities, can also be mentioned as numerous taxa. All segments are invaded. A more significant invasion process is taking place on the right bank of the river. In the Czech context, Úpa is one of the more invasively loaded streams. Keywords: invasive neophyte, riparian vegetation, the Úpa River, stream, monitoring of vegetation
Current state of vegetation in the Sázava River floodplain after spring flood in 2006
Klášterková, Hana ; Chuman, Tomáš (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
In this diploma thesis current state of vegetation cover was analyzed after spring flood in 2006 on the lower section of the Sázava river. Immediately after the flood there were 38 sites with alluvial deposits identified in the floodplain. The differences in species composition and species diversity between sites with alluvial deposits and sites without deposits were analyzed. The data were collected by using phytosociological relevés in pairs i.e. - plot with an alluvial deposit and plot without. There were 86 vascular plant species recorded out of which 10 species were non-native but not invasive species and 7 species were non-native invasive species. Results of this thesis revealed that species composition and diversity of invasive species differ between plots with alluvial deposits and plots without alluvial deposits. Moreover, plots without alluvial deposits host more invasive species. Keywords: vegetation succession, river floodplain, extreme floods, species diversity, plant invasion
Teacher of geography as the cause of motivation to study geography
Macounová, Veronika ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hanus, Martin (referee)
This work is a continuation of the bachelor's thesis which proposed the idea of a Geography teacher as a crucial factor in one's decision to study Geography. For this reason, the research focuses on a comparison of two groups of teachers. The choice of the ten responders in the first group was based on the highest number of students from different Czech schools applying to study Geography. The second part with 90 respondents consists of randomly selected teachers from Prague and regions of Central Bohemia, Ústí nad Labem, Karlovy Vary, Plzeň, South Bohemia, Pardubice, Hradec Králové, Liberec and Vysočina. The research is concluded with analysing how teachers work with feedback and self-reflection. Key words: teacher's personality, teacher's attitude towards students, questionnaire, Geography lessons, lesson plan
