The medicaments containing pseudoephedrine - material for illegal production of metamphetamine

1 SUMMARY MEDICINE CONTAINING PSEUDOEPHEDRINE - RAW MATERIALS FOR CLANDESTINE PRODUCTION OF METHAMPHETAMINE Author: Havlíček S., Métis, Pharmacy in Stod, Czech Republic Tutor: Kotlářová J., Dept. of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Kralove, Charles University in Prague,Czech Republic In the Czech Republic, the clandestine methamphetamine (pervitin) production appeared in 1970s. Ephedrin used to be a main source for methamphetamine production till the factory for ephedrine output in Roztoky (in 2004) was closed down. Since this moment a pseudoephedrine gained from ordinarily available medicaments has become very popular base material for this illegal production. An expansion of the illicit "home-based" methamphetamine manufactories is supported by very easy accessibility and also by poor regulation of these medicaments containing pseudoephedrine Another reason is the low price of the legally obtainable medication: around 200 CZK per 1g of pseudoephedrine. Pharmacies have suddenly become suppliers of drug gangs. However, they cannot prevent such situation under current legislation. Tightening regulations may help to solve the problem, but it seems unlikely to happen taken into account the large profits at stake. The Young and Their Lifestyle. Questionnaire Survey among High School Students.

The aim of the submitted diploma thesis was to assess the attitudes of the secondary school students to the use of medicaments and the abuse of legal and illegal drugs and, at the same time, to assess a possible connexion with the psychical problems occurring in Opava region. The study forms a part of an international project monitoring young people's lifestyle in Europe. It was performed with the help of anonymous questionnaires, which were taken over from the Italian university degli Studi Camerino. In total 135 students of the third and fourth years of the grammar schools in Vítkov and Opava participated in this study during the school year 2006/2007. Out of them, there were 70.4 % of girls and 29.6 % of boys. Their average age was 17.6 years. Students consider the recreation use of illegal drugs the most dangerous way of behaviour, whereas the smoking and the drinking of alcohol were considered the least dangerous activities. In total 91.1 % of students used some medicaments during the last year, mostly analgesics and medicaments against infection. Almost 15 % select medicaments on their own. Aim of study: Find actually situation of raw materials for compounding of drugs in pharmacies of the Czech Republic and compare it with previous research. Methods: Research with questionnaire. Quetionnaire was complete by students of practice in pharmacies of the Czech republic. Work in Microsoft Excel. Results: Diploma paper worked 52 questionnaires from different types of pharmacy. From this questionnaires was created main database. In this database is 491 raw materials - 250 curative and helping materials and 241 curative preparations. In tables is percent occurrence of raw materials globally and in the different types of pharmacy. After that their evaluation in relation to at the same time valid norms and kind of operation. Abbreviations in Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacy

ZÁVĚR Vzájemná provázanost dnešního světa a rychlý životní styl si vynucují zestručnění a zhuštění jazykových prostředků. K tomu mimo jiné a stále více patří nejrůznější zkratky, zkratková slova, akronymy, kódy, značky a symboly, a to nejen v mateřském jazyce. Účelem zkratek je nejen šetřit prostor a čas, ale také dosahovat určité kondenzovanosti sdělení a nabídnout pohotovou orientaci v popisované skutečnosti. To ovšem platí pouze tehdy, je-li zkratka pro čtenáře či posluchače průhledná a jasná. V teoretické části své diplomové práce jsem se věnovala vysvětlení základních pojmů a dále popisu typů slovníků a vysvětlení obvyklé struktury kapitol běžných slovníků. Došla jsem k závěru, že neexistují striktní pravidla ani pro třídění, ani pro strukturu slovníku, a proto závisí na každém autorovi, jaký způsob zvolí. Dále jsem se zabývala zkratkami, a to jak obecnými, tak odbornými (farmaceutickými). Objasnila jsem základní pravidla pro tvorbu zkratek, jejich členění, způsob používání a zmínila se o nejčastějších chybách při jejich uplatnění. Hlavním cílem diplomové práce bylo vytvořit studijní pomůcku pro studenty farmacie. Select terms in Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacy

ZÁVĚR 1. Uskutečnila jsem průzkum mezi studenty 1. ročníku farmacie zaměřený na zajímavé nebo neznámé pojmy, se kterými se setkali během svých praxí v lékárnách. Do základní databáze, v níž jsem soustředila hlavní výsledky tohoto průzkumu, které byly získány v akademickém roce 2003/2004 od 172 studentů 1. ročníku, jsem zařadila celkem 190 různých pojmů v celkovém zastoupení 852 výskytů. Nejvíce používanými pojmy byly pojmy převzaté z cizích jazyků např. rajbšál, pistil a štantka. Tyto pojmy se vyskytly v různých pravopisných obměnách. Studenti pro jednotlivé pojmy uvedli 67 různých synonym, jež jsem následně využila dále. 2. Zpracovala jsem Přehled vybraných pojmů, do něhož jsem ze základní databáze získané průzkumem převzala naprostou většinu nalezených pojmů a doplnila je o některé další mnou nalezené pojmy, které jsem sama vyhledala z různých zdrojů nebo se s nimi setkala na praxích. Přehled obsahuje celkem 180 pojmů s vysvětlením či definicí, včetně synonymních výrazů, a má být výchozím podkladem pro připravovaný Slovník vybraných pojmů ve farmacii, jehož základní podobu jsem již také začala připravovat. 3.
