Heisslerová, Radka ; Ebelová, Ivana (advisor) ; Slavíček, Lubomír (referee) ; Hojda, Zdeněk (referee)
The presented dissertation deals with the history of the painter's guild of the New Town of Prague with the main emphasis on its form and development in the 17th and 18th centuries but doesn't leave aside the period of older history. The work thus focuses on New Town painters from the beginnings of the existence of their guild, through the issuance of the privilege of Emperor Rudolf II. in 1595, by which he granted the Old Town-Lesser Town painter's guild significant privileges, as a result of which the joint development of all Prague painting associations began to take different paths. The thesis also deals with the circumstances leading to the demise of the guild in the 1780s, when the Prague painters' fraternities were abolished by Emperor Joseph II. In addition to the history of the painters' association, the thesis provides an insight into the guild life of New Town painters, which it monitors in individual positions within the guild hierarchy, focuses on the functioning of the association itself, its management, material and written sources, representation of the corporation and individual members, and last but not least, it describes the way of worshiping the patron saint of painters - St. Luke. Because not only members of the guild worked as painters in the New Town of Prague, the work also...

The houses exterior is evaluated based on the building condition, the material used and the number of storeys. It is possible to study the size of areas that are not built on thanks to an accurate register of garden size. Moreover, this part also concentrates on beer brewing and consumption in New Town pubs. The small scope of the theoretical part is compensated by a content-rich appendix (database), which is in fact an edition of the source in a nontraditional form. It is intended for all scholars interested in Prague residential buildings in the Baroque period. The data from the inspection protocol can be used to compile a history of individual buildings and to study the demographic, social, economic...

Its aim is to analyze coded correspondence found among other documents of the War Office of Matthias Gallas. First of all, the number of the coded documents is compared to the whole paperwork of Gallas's War Office to identify the ratio of encrypted writings. I also analyze sample letters to demonstrate kinds of ciphers that were used in military sphere during the Thirty Year's War. The sample of the coded letters is chosen in order to present correspondents of different social ranks even though the majority comes from commanders. Studied correspondence falls under the first two leadership periods of Matthias Gallas. A list of all encrypted documents is attached to this thesis as well.
