The City of Copenhagen as a Topos in Contemporary Danish Literature

(in English): he aim of the thesis is to analyze the City of Copenhagen as a topos in contemporary Danish literature taking the example of the literary work of two contemporary Danish authors, Jan Sonnergaard and Katrine Marie Guldager. In the first chapter the authors and their short story collections (Kobenhavn and the Radiator trilogy) are briefly introduced. At the theoretical level, the work deals with the structure of the literary space, the literary concepts of topos and chronotope. A separate chapter discusses the depictions of urban space in literature based on the ideas of Daniela Hodrova. The interpretive part focuses on the specifics of each of the authors and the procedures which are used for this purpose, eg. the motif of meeting other people and moving around the city at Guldager. At Sonnergaard, there is a noticeable difference between the center and the periphery and between the changes in urban structure. The authors consistently show Copenhagen as a dynamic city, which is, however, showing signs of provinciality.

The beginnings of textile production in the Czech Republic. Selected questions of textile production practised on the territory of the Czech Republic at the end of the Stone Age.

This work assesses the evolution of textile production in the Czech lands during the Eneolithic, a period that is the earliest source of broader archaeological information for the study of textile manufacturing. The basis for the study is provided above all by archaeological finds of textile tools (spindle whorls, weights, spools and awls) that are evaluated within individual archaeological cultures in terms of quantity, shape, size and function, archaeological context and chronological development. This is supplemented by a survey of fragmentary textiles and their imprints dating from the Stone Age in the Czech Republic. Another important source of information is provided by findings from research into Eneolithic pile-dwelling settlements around Alpine lakes that have provided numerous finds of archaeological textiles as well as textile-making tools and tool fragments that have not been found in the Czech lands. An interesting comparative set of artefacts is provided by the objects found in the possession of the mummy of Ötzi dating from the Middle Eneolithic Period. Specific manifestations of pre-Romanticism in the works of Johannes Ewald (Levnet og meninger) and Laurence Sterne (The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman)

This thesis focuses on the analysis of Johannes Ewald's autobiographic novel Levnet og Meeninger (Life and Opinions, 1774-78) regarding the question of to what extent this book is a pre-Romantic work of fiction. Numerous elements typical of pre-Romanticism can be found in the novel, such as the scrutiny of inner feelings, an emphasis on the expression of emotions, the individualization of both the narrator and the artist, or a new perception of the role of nature in art. All of this makes Levnet og Meeninger an original work; its author can thus be considered the first Danish pre-Romantic author. His novel is also often compared with the work of one of the authors representing pre-Romanticism in British literature, Laurence Sterne's The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman (1759-1767); this thesis will attempt to describe possible similarities between the two works in more detail. The collection of textile fragments found in rubbish dump dated to modern times from archaeological excavation in Praha 1- Na rejdišti čp. 77

The main aim of the master thesis is an evaluation of archaeological textiles from the site Na Rejdišti 1 - Praha 1, which are coming from the rubbish dump. They are dated from the 16th to the 18th century. Key sources of information are analogical situations coming mainly from Poland and Germany where the textile fragments have been evaluated from rubbish dumps, water wells, cesspits and sewers. The Reflection of Franz Kafka's Writing in the Works of Villy Sørensen

This thesis deals with the analysis and interpretation of short stories "The murder case - Kafka's idyll" and "Tiger in the kitchen" from the collection of stories Sære historier (1963) by Villy Sørensen. The primary aim of this thesis is to distinguish a similarity between the short stories of Villy Sørensen and the works of Franz Kafka. The author works on the assumption that both writers use parable as their main means of expression. The first chapter of the thesis concerns Villy Sørensen and the time he lived, together with the fantastic prose, which he represents. Subsequently the author characterizes the parable with definitions and examples from world literature. In analysis of the short story "The murder case", the reader will not just see an interpretation of story as it is; a comparison is also made with The Trial by Franz Kafka. Lastly there is an analysis of the short story "Tiger in the kitchen".

Postmondernism and Magic Realism in Forestillingen om det tyvende århundrede by Peter Høeg. An Attempt to Define the Terms

1 Abstract The thesis examines the relationship of the literary phenomena magical realism and postmodernism. The starting point of the thesis is the statement that both the terms embody various common features (ideological, thematic). The author targets the definition of both styles and their genealogical delimitation in the first part. In the second part, the author relates these two terms to the particular work - the novel The History of Danish Dreams of the danish author Peter Høeg. It is possible to find demonstrable principles of both magical realism and postmodernism in this wider prose. The author of this thesis illustrates principles and themes with examples from the novel and the interpretations.

Sturla Þórðarson: his work in context of his time and an analysis of the authorial intent

Sturla Þórðarson: his work in context of his time and an analysis of the authorial intent The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the literary-historiographical works of Sturla Þórðarson with regard to the specific historical situation at the time of their origin and the methods and authorial intent of this 13th century Icelandic historian. The introductory chapters give a brief overview of Sturla Þórðarson's life in a broader historical context, based on the extant primary sources, and of his literary and literary- historiographical works. The major topic of the thesis is an analysis and comparison of two of the author's works, Íslendinga saga and Hákonar saga Hákonarsonar, in context of various scholars' views of medieval historiography. The former saga belongs to the genre of samtíðarsögur (contemporary sagas), the latter to the genre of konungasögur (kings' sagas). Both works present the same historical period. The major object of analysis is the differences in the author's approach to the historical material in his literary-historiographical works of different genres; this analysis is followed by an attempt to explain the differences. Riddarasǫgur: the Change of the Old Norse Concept of Saga?

Tato práce se zabývá primárními rytířskými ságami, staroseverskými pře- klady evropské rytířské epiky, a jejich vlivem na další žánry ság, sekundární rytířské ságy a pozdní fantastické ságy. Naším cílem bylo zkoumat změny v prezentaci vybraných postav (hrdina, vládce a hrdinova žena) v závislosti na přechodu společnosti od rodové k systému s feudálními rysy. P·vodní staroseverská tradice je v práci zastoupena ságami rodovými. První kapitola popisuje hlavní problémy rozdělení zkoumaných žánr·. Druhá kapitola před- stavuje detailní analýzu formy a obsahu popis· postav v každém z žánr·. Poslední část přidává aspekt změn struktury společnosti, především ve spo- jitosti se snahou Hákona Hákonarsona zavést užší feudální vazby. Tento pře- chod skutečně ovlivnil očekávání publika. Zjistili jsme, že hlavní změna, kte- rou primární rytířské ságy znamenaly v rámci ságové literatury, bylo, že se cíleně pokoušely změnit společenské konvence a praxi. Pozdější žánry si už nenárokovaly morální závaznost. Přejaly sice kvality zavedené překlady ry- tířské epiky, ovšem dodržovaly také tradiční formu popisu postav. The Question of Identity in Johan Borgen's Novel "I"

This bachelor thesis examines the question of identity in the novel "I" by the Norwegian author Johan Borgen. The thesis deals with various aspects of the main character's split identity and how they relate to one another. These aspects are, for instance, the question of authenticity, guilt, taking action and escape. The thesis also analyses the formal composition of the text with regard to the existential theme of the novel. In conclusion, Borgen's representation of identity in "I" is compared to The Trial by Franz Kafka.
