Charvátová, Barbora ; Mazaná, Vladislava (advisor) ; Zemánek, Marek (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to explore the theme of sexual orientation in the context of Korean society, primarily as a personal identity which is fully realized through the social interactions either directly through romantic or sexual relationships or indirectly through family and others. These two intersecting realities - an individual and a society - are going to be analyzed in Korean homosexual films while paying close attention especially to the following areas: ways of expressing a different sexual orientation, terminology and its context, a clash of characters' homosexuality with traditional values of Korean society, coming out, and various ways of characters' integration into the wider society. To achieve the proposed aim, the thesis is firstly going to explore available literature in order to articulate a theoretical basis of the matter. Thus, the mentioned film analysis is going to be carried out upon this basis. Results of the analysis are expected to reveal a comprehensive representation of a homosexual as it is portrayed in Korean homosexual films and his/her place in a traditional heterosexual society. Key words Korea, homosexuality, Korean film, sexual orientation, Korean society.
Asian financial crisis and its impact on ROK's economy and society
Červíková, Martina ; Horák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mazaná, Vladislava (referee)
The 1997 Korean crisis arose as a result of external debt maturity mismatch. When the region was hit by the Asian monetary crisis, there was not enough confidence in the economy of Korea and Korean banks could not rollover their short term debt. I argue that this lack of confidence on the part of international investors was caused not only by the wider regional crisis but also by non-economic factors in Korea such as corruption, student radicalism, a general strike and military incidents with the DPRK. In the text I provide an economic summary of the crisis and a discussion of problems in Korean society as well as a narrative of Korean political history in the crisis years. Keywords: Korean financial crisis, Asian Financial Crisis, IMF, corruption, student movement, general strike, ROK, DPRK, 1990s.

This part also clarifies the term kimchi and describes the origin and variety of this Korean dish. The next part of the thesis focuses on the current position of kimchi in the modern Korean society. It presents the ways of storing kimchi and describes in greater detail both the traditional and industrial production od kimchi, which closely relates to the import and export of this product. The increasing expansion of kimchi around the world has caused its globalization which further raises public awareness of the Korean culture. However, the popularity of kimchi in its country of origin is on decline due to the westernisation of the Korean cuisine. The thesis lists the ways how Koreans try to prevent this decline. The bachelor thesis gradually reveals four main aspects in which kimchi creates the link between the traditional and modern Korean culture.
