Rypl Žabčíková, Ada ; Mrva, Kamil (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
The master thesis is a story about (lost of) memories of a place and seeking the identity of Valachia via objects of small architecture. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with issues of landscape as a totality - it studies the region in the georaphical, antropological and cultural context on the background of fundamental historical events. The design part of the thesis outlines the "landscape plan" and defines the landscape elements through an analysis and interpretation of signs of individual landscape formations.

City by the Ocean
Holcnerová, Lenka ; Kyselka, Igor (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
In between the Oceans and the Earth (The cities by Oceans) Projects in between the oceans and the earth For studies of towns on the seashores in magister studies under leadership of Ing. Arch Jan Mlecka I was impacted by two basic factors: firstly by my three years of studies and internships in Lisbon – a metropolis on the shore of Atlantic ocean, which became written into Lisbon’s DNA, into its light, tempo, priorities, historz, courage, strength, eternity, simplicity, sailing boats and elegance. And secondly I was influenced by a workshop organized by AA of London in February 2011 in Dubrovnik with lectures of Vedran Mimica and John Palmesino about towns, growth, quality of town life, policies and by studies of Southern Croatian coast under leadership of Krunoslav Ivanišin, where a floating platform was proposed to simultaneously solve several problems of this region. The more I become involved with oceans, the more I am fascinated by shorelines. This rare, dangerous, fractal line is the theatre of the biggest changes and dramas, but it also presents the greatest possibilities. (This is why I call my work not Towns by Oceans but In Between The Oceans and The Earth). When I was mapping shorelines, I have come across several findings: 1. The principles of constructions on shorelines are similar all over the world. 2. There are similar evolutionary stages in usage of shoreline – it is both physical and functional stages. 3. In many cases the potential of ocean is impaired by human interventions. Taking into account these facts, I was searching for further evolutionary stages of shorelines. In Lisbon I visited Ocean Energy Systems where 30 young engineers work on im-provements of machines designed to extract energy from oceans. In order to be effi-cient, these machines have to have giant dimensions. Immediately after seeing a generator on the island of Pico, I realized that such machines should not be put behind fences, creating an obstacle on the rare shoreline in between the sea and the land, but that they must be adopted by architecture – so that we will be able to live with them in symbiosis on the shoreline.

Renewal of Old Brno District
Sopoušková, Petra ; Boleslavská, Yvona (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
The work deals with the development of the Old Brno District . Old Brno District is currently marked by waiting for the implementation of the land use plan, which should solve the problem of traffic. The implementation, however, will probably take a few decades. I propose to use the period of time before the change of traffic routes and begin a gradual development that will prefigure target form of the district. Well-designed architecture and urbanism is not the only condition for well-functioning city. Therefore, I propose a process which should lead to the target form, but to create social, economic, ecological and aesthetic values independently of it. For this purpose vacant spaces and temporary structures are used.
Soundscape, Lom Hády
Kolcunová, Pavlína ; Kyselka, Mojmír (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
The concept of the thesis is based on the phenomenon of Soundscape. This term was defined during the late 1960s at the occasion of The World Soundscape Project. The image of the acoustic comfort was redefined - from the level of noise pollution to the question of the sonic environment. The contribution of the project lies in the rehabilitation of the importance of sound as a cultural and social phenomenon, which shapes the identity of the place. Since the area of sound research is very large, the theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the description of the auditory perception from the psychological and physical aspects. It's a description of objective and subjective "events", that on the one hand, it appears as a set of physical quantities, on the other side as auditory scene, which provokes the questions how are the different sounds connected, which meanings are associated by the perceived sound, etc. Sources of inspiration, drawing from nonarchitectonic overlaps ( such as poetic acoustic locators or sound installations ) are another starting point for exploring the properties of sounds. The work on a specific issue was preceded by the searching of the accurate place, that is essentially acontextual to the surrounding environment. Landscape character of the quarry Hady reminds a desert, it has a few specified sites, it‘s monotonous land with varying degrees of openness and closeness. The environment of the quarry generates diverse "soundcapes" and also reflects the sound milieu of the surrounding landscape, which becomes the object of manipulation. situation Quarry Hady is one of the dominant landmarks of Brno - scarred face of the hilll and broadcasting tower are visible from miles around, and after mining mechanisms quit, the quarry is turning back to nature. There is a natural reservation Velka Klajdovka and Kavky in close proximity - thanks to the fact grows up to thirty kinds of endangered plants in the lower part of quarry called Růženin lom. The location is easily accessible on foot or by bike ( hiking trail Velká Klajdovka - Šumbera goes through the quarry) or with public transportation within walking distance of 800m. The parking lot with 25 spaces is situated near to turn-off Kanice towards quarry area.
