The thesis deals with the issues of literary-historical situation of works by Alois Jirásek in the Czech tradition of the historical novel and characteristic of literary representation of history by the writer. The thing is that after the creation of Czechoslovakia in 1918 Jirásek became the official symbol of the literature of the new state, and younger authors followed him ideologically, thematically, and after the formal construction of works. The thesis also puts a question whether the works by Alois Jirásek are alive today. Keywords Alois Jirásek, historical novel, interpretation of Czech history, Hussite movement, literary analysis
