ELEVEN FACES OF JAN GOGOL, JR.
Rendl, Jan ; RŮŽIČKOVÁ, Alice (advisor) ; KUBICA, Petr (referee)
Author Jan Rendl in his thesis attempts to look at the world of ideas and educator Jan Gogola ml. through the eleven chapters in which each chapter somehow characterizes itself by Jan Gogola ml. and each of them somehow determines its creative ideas of it through the metaphor of a football match when Jan Gogola, with its characters, movies himself a teammate, as well as defensively. It gives goals with their situations as well as occasionally digging his opponents ankles. Jan Gogola ml. thus embodies one stage of the Department of Documentary Film at FAMU, which often stands at the intersection between teaching activities and Karel Vachek among students who applied by them during their seminars psychological methods that work must be peculiarly associated with the author of the film.

Gradovová, Irina ; KUBICA, Petr (advisor) ; ŠERÝ, Ladislav (referee)
Thesis The Mockumentary is dedicated to the issues of questioning credibility of audio and video messages broadcasted through audiovisual media. Mockuments are trying, through the methods of documentary and fictitous content, to uncover manipulative approach of audiovisual products and they are often mocking documentary itself. The represantation of reality is the most important common issue of the documentary and the mockumentary. Mockuments are questioning the credibility of archival materials as the source of truth about past or any materials which try to act as unprejudiced evidence of the reality. For the appreciatation of the mockument is necessary to have a spectator acquanted with historical, cultural and political context of the piece, the spectator which is capable to uncover its hidden content more tightly allied with the reality than with the fiction.

Filming and post-production dramaturgical rules and production limits are described in the case study of television series Na cestě, and their resulting impact on the show's traits is analyzed. The outcomes of television rating and viewer satisfaction measurements are also dealt with; moreover, based on the available data, a viewer profile is outlined, attempting to deduce what his visions and expectations are. As a contrast with TV production, the paper includes two creative documentaries, which characteristics also fit the travel genre: Notebook from China, by Danish director Jorgen Leth, and Šimon Špidla's Into Oblivion. The study compares their style and ways of narration, draws a comparison with series' features, and aims to answer whether or not the conditions of TV series production enable creative travel filmmaking.
Branded Reality
Kokeš, Lukáš ; KUBICA, Petr (advisor) ; MÍČOVÁ, Pavlína (referee)
This thesis explores the phenomenon of marketing influences gradually infiltrating the field of creative documentary film. The concept of "branded content" is a strategy how to smuggle advertising messages into the original content of documentary films and other cultural products, so that the consumer is not instantly aware of being exposed to advertorial messages. This text describes examples of ?branding" in the context of film history and in contemporary film and television production as well. Using examples from historical evolution of modern marketing strategies, examples from other media and other areas of cultural production (music, visual art) and mentioning international context, the focus of my thesis turns to several cases of branded content in contemporary Czech cultural and documentary film and television production.

The use of Archive Family Footage Documentary Film
Janečková, Veronika ; KUBICA, Petr (advisor) ; VACHEK, Karel (referee)
In this thesis I explore more deeply the topic from my bachelor diploma thesis ?Archiving Family Film?. Through an analysis of family film from the thirties to the present day, I want to draw attention to this distinctive form of amateur filmmaking which is overlooked today. Above all I want to focus on the filmmakers Peter Forgács and Jan Šikl. I explore their different approaches and points of view, and their use of archive family footage in their documentary works ?Private Hungary? and ?Private Century?. By comparing films from these documentary cycles, I point out what makes the works of these two directors unique. I also elaborate on my work with family archive footage in my film ?Sestření? (?Sistering? - 2nd year exercise ? authorial portrait), and I reflect on the approach that I adopted when shooting my bachelor?s diploma film, ?Roots of Relationship or How Granddaughter and Grandmother couldn?t get the Turnip out.? I explain my use of methods taken from family footage in my work as a documentary filmmaker, and discuss my personal experience and achievements in this field.
