Volf, Anna ; Kotek, arch Jakub (referee) ; Dulenčín, Juraj (advisor)
The topic of this diploma thesis is creating an architectural study of new synagogue and center for Jewish community in Teplice. Main goal was to design a complex used not only for sacral purposes, but also for cultural and educational purposes. The intention itself was an attempt to transform the location, to highlight its specificity and to capture its Genius loci. The proposal is a set of four objects consisting of several completely different units, all intended to create possibilities for harmonious coexistence of the past and the future. The complex includes a new separate synagogue building with three utility floors, which is located on the southern side of the premises. Two other objects are a one-storey administration building and a cultural and educational center, both located in the middle of the area. The building on the northern side of the property houses the premises of a kosher restaurant, a museum and a parking lot. Its roof forms a large square and recreational zone. Due to the large altitude differences of the premises, predominant portion of the facility is designed under the ground.

The design includes two mutually separated buildings – a treatment center and a covered parking lot. The hospital building consists of three interconnected pavilions of various functions. The individual parts of the building are arranged in such a way as to achieve the best possible operational connections. Thanks to the pavilion layout, the adjacent outdoor space was subdivided, creating two play areas for children of different ages. To achieve maximum fusion of the buildings with the surroundings, the buildings were partially embedded into the terrain, covered with terrain wave, and the surrounding landscaping was carried out to the smallest possible extent.

Sports and Recreation Centre Vsetín, Ohrada
Košňar, František ; Kotek, arch Jakub (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor)
The architecture and urban planning study of the Ohrada sports grounds examines the possibility of building a multipurpose sports and recreation centre in the Vsetín – Ohrada location. Currently, the grounds are in a very poor condition. With respect to the dimensions of the grounds, the roofed stands of the Spartakiad stadium serving a lodging house along with the tennis club facilities fail to fulfill its potential. I approached the area layout in a way which enables a clearly identifiable morphology of the buildings with an accentuated maximum utilization of daylight, open space, greenery, and social interaction to combine ideas and needs of the future generation and thus give the location a new genius loci. The biggest challenge of the complex layout of the whole site was to find a meaningful use for the great amount of soil found in the decaying stands. I find the best solution in creating an accessible, walkable mass that provides several different sections with various atmospheres and purposes. This concept resulted in a study which uses the qualities of the premises and complements them with a number of sports and recreational activities. The fundamental idea was to create a public leisure space with a focus on a great variability of the purpose of the grounds to make it useful for a wide range of public across generations. This led to the creation of several main masses which divide the location, reduce the scale of the area and give it a different atmosphere. At the same time, the grounds are freely accessible and open to the public. A long-term, functioning society demonstrates an ability to treat public and semipublic space with respect. The area in front of and in between buildings becomes, therefore, more important than the buildings themselves. At such a moment, one can talk of a sustainable public life.

It proposes design of a new children’s treatment centre that uses the nearby Císařská Cave for speleotherapeutic treatment. The municipality of Ostrov u Macochyis in the district of Blansko. The new building is located on the outskirts of the village surrounded by the nature of the protected area CHKO Moravský kras, the terrain is sloping and oriented to the south. These are the main attributes that the object uses and adapts to.The treatment centre operates in a single building with two main floors. The ground floor has space for commercial use, entrance hall, medical, rehabilitation and administrative part, kitchen and facilities for speleotherapy and operation of the treatment centre. The first floor is dedicated to children. One half of the first floor consists of playing areas and rooms for accommodated children and separate rooms for children accommodated with their parents. In the second half of the first floor there is an elementary school with three classrooms, a dining room and a caretaker's apartment. Thanks to the terrain, it is possible to enter the atrium and the garden with sports grounds from the entire first floor. This creates a connection between the interior and surrounding nature. The construction system of the building is mostly brick, supplemented by reinforced concrete columns, sprayed forms of prestressed ceiling slabs, the roof is flat green. The main idea of the urban solution is to create serious looking building connected with nature, which will respect the sloping terrain and the surrounding buildings. The architectural solution is based on a simple cubic U-shaped form, partially embedded in the terrain. The mass forms the atrium. The dominant feature of the facade are coloured shielding slats, which prevent the building from overheating. These slats also appear elsewhere on the facade and children can play
