Application of anti-friction bearings for four-stroke internal combustion engines
Knotek, Jiří ; Svída, David (referee) ; Drápal, Lubomír (advisor)
This thesis is concerned with the anti-friction bearings and their application in the construction of the four-stroke cycle internal combustion engine. Thesis consists of several parts. The first one is concerned with the anti-friction bearings themselves. This part provides basics of theory of the anti-friction bearings needed in the next parts. In the next part is described the use of the anti-friction bearings in the internal combustion engine. Last part is concerned with the use of the anti-friction bearings in the construction of the four-stroke cycle internal combustion engine. There is described mounting of crankshaft, connecting rod, camshaft, balancer shaft and turbocharger.
Slide Bearings Test Bench
Palán, David ; Knotek, Jiří (referee) ; Maršálek, Ondřej (advisor)
This master’s thesis is focused on measurement of electrical contact resistance. The beginning of the thesis is devoted to the introduction of the electrical contact resistance and electrical parameters of journal bearings. Next part of the thesis deals with engineering design of test rig. In order to verify functional measurement principle, the test rig based on engineering design has been made. In the end of the thesis the measuring devices and the measuring process is described. The measurement results from the test rig are presented.
Diesel railroad vehicles drive concepts
Polcer, Pavel ; Knotek, Jiří (referee) ; Zubík, Martin (advisor)
Thesis deals with diesel railroad vehicle drive concepts, in other words transmission of power from diesel engine to driven wheels. Currently used drives are described in terms of functionality, limitations and efficiency. Numerical model, which simulates rail vehicle journey, is used to compare efficiency of drives, or more accurately, energy needs for their operation. Based on the numerical model, suitable drives are recommended.
The effect of surface texture on friction and lubrication of axial plain bearings
Knotek, Jan ; Hartl, Martin (referee) ; Šperka, Petr (advisor)
This paper deals with the influence of textures on friction and lubrication of axial plain bearings. Targeted texturing has the potential to affect the performance of mechanical components, where the main parameter is the friction coefficient and the thickness of the lubricating layer. Many experimental studies have been published so far, but few of them lead to a more detailed understanding of the function of textures on parallel surfaces and their interaction with a wedge-shaped gap. The problem was modeled in this work using a pin-on-disk configuration operated with controlled tilt in the hydrodynamic lubrication regime. In contrast to previously published studies, the thickness of the lubricating film was measured in real-time during the experiment using fluorescence microscopy, along with the friction coefficient. It has been demonstrated that textures are generally more beneficial in conditions with parallel surfaces compared to conditions with wedge-shaped gaps. For the case of parallel surfaces, the influence of partial texturing was identified, where the surface textured with a quarter of its area located at the entrance to the contact in the centerline led to the most positive results. In addition to partial texturing, the influence of texture size and the pattern of their distribution on the contact surface was confirmed. Parallel surfaces showed a high sensitivity of results to small changes in surface tilt. However, with increasing tilt, the effect of the wedge-shaped gap dominated over the effect of textures, and their contribution was typically in the range of single-digit to low double-digit percentages.
Automation of nuclear fuel visual inspection
Knotek, Jaroslav ; Blažek, Jan (advisor) ; Horáček, Jan (referee)
The safety and performance of nuclear plant relies, among others, on the quality of nuclear fuel. The quality fulfilling designed criteria of the fuel in use is inspected and reported on periodically. Visual inspection focuses on the condition of the fuel based on its visual properties. During the inspection, the fuel is being recorded and analysed by the inspector. The current state of the fuel assemblies is compared to the historical statistics which helps do decide whether this particular assembly remains or gets replaced. This thesis describe a project initiated by Centrum Výzkumu Řež focusing on digital image processing methods application to visual inspection process. The result of the project is a tool that accelerates the process of report making. Firstly, it transforms the inspection video into one image overview and highlight a significant part (more than 95%) of possible defects to the inspector. 1
Garden in the culture of Islam
Knotek, Jiří ; Veselý, Rudolf (advisor) ; Ondráš, František (referee)
This work deals with gardens which were created in the Islamic territory and played an important role in the Islamic culture. Since the Islamic garden art is often being connected with the paradisiacal conception of gardens in the Koran, the first chapter concentrates on this theme. The description of the Koranic paradise is based on analysis of individua! verses which are thematically divided into particular subchapters. Traditional exegesis is also mentioned, as well as the comparison between gardens in the Koran and the Bible. The next chapter deals with the image of gardens in the literature. The examples of poems which come from various Islamic centers and various historical periods, attest considerable popularity of the garden poetry. A part of this chapter is also devoted to the agronomical manuals and botanical treatises which contained contemporary knowledge ofhusbandry and botany. Gardens represented an important theme in the Islamic art. They appeared in mosaics, miniatures, textiles and ceramics. In spíte of certain schematization some of these items are considered to be a useful source for study of the real gardens. The longest chapter describes development of the gardens and the garden architecture in the individua! areas of the Islamic world. Some of the examples are illustrated by images...
