Czechoslovak and Czech Pharmacy - Expressions, Impacts and Consequences of the Genocide of Jews and Other Forms of Racial Persecution

1. Introduction In this PhD thesis, I set out to map the fate of Jewish pharmacists who worked mainly in pharmacy (or owned it) during the interwar Czechoslovak Republic in the period 1939 to 1945. I paid attention to the Jews working in industry, science and education in pharmacy in this time period. This theme has not yet been processed (now available one study and partial articles on Jews in pharmacy, but this study is concerned with an older time period). My motivation was to repay a debt to my colleagues, who mostly perished in the Shoah. In the Czech lands lived in 1931 117551 Jews, in Bohemia 76 301 Jews, in Moravia and Silesia 41 250 Jews. In Bohemia lived more than 50 % of Jews in Prague, on the contrary in Moravia and Silesia only more than 25 % of Jews lived in Brno (more of them lived in the country and let downs). Pharmaceutical higher education in Austria was officially launched in 1804, one year in medical school. In the winter semester of 1834/1835 was extended for two years. In 1864, the study finally moved to the faculty of philosophy, after 1919 (now only in Czechoslovakia), the Faculty of Science. Title of doctoral thesis: Contributions to the history of the pharmaceutical industry, marketing and advertising in the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918 - 1938 Doctoral thesis "The history of the pharmaceutical industry, marketing and advertising in the Czechoslovak Republic in the years 1918 - 1938" explores the origins and development of pharmaceutical marketing, with a focus on one component of the marketing mix namely advertising. The thesis is divided into chapters that deal with the origins and development of the pharmaceutical industry, describing the formation of companies Interpharma and Druvet, describes fundamental elements of the marketing mix. The thesis also discusses basic elements of the marketing mix such as a medicinal product, pricing and promotion. The work is based on archival research and brings new information on the history of the pharmaceutical industry, especially the development of advertising and its legal regulation even in international aspects. Social and Clinical Pharmacy Department Pharmaceutical Faculty in Hradec Králové The Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic Theme: Pharmacy Practice in the Prostějov Region during the Health Care Development Process after the 1989 Objective: Survey of the history of pharmacies and pharmacists in the Prostějov Region after the 1989 during the health care development process. Methods: Excerption of the availability literature, processing the regional newspapers that were obtained from the Town library in Prostějov and Town archive in Prostějov, the questionnaires, the materials of the district corporation of the pharmacists and interviews with the local pharmacy keepers. Results: Before 1989 in the Prostějov Region there were 12 pharmacies, 6 in the region and 6 in the city of Prostějov. After the 1989 many new pharmacies were established. Some pharmacies have established the OOVL (a small pharmacy by their "mother pharmacy"), their expansion have begun after the 1998. Drug Problems in Youth in the Region of the Town Vsetín

Job title: DRUG PROBLEMS IN SCHOOL YOUTH IN VSETIN CITY REGION Author: Zdeňka Krchová Thesis Supervisor: Doc. PhDr. František Dohnal, CSc. Aim of the study: determine the drug issue of school youth in the region Vsetín, motivation to use drugs and find a way to prevent drug use. Methods: survey of 80 students, consultation with students Results: The survey shows that students encounter the first drug already at 9 years 5% and most often at 13 and 14 years of age 18%. As for illicit drugs students reported experience with cannabis 45%, other drugs 11%, alcohol 87% and cigarettes 80%. The drug was mostly offered in the company, 60% of students say. 100% of students stated that drug brought them fun, relaxation and integration into society. When asked if they knew where to find professional help if needed, 100% said they knew but would never need that anyway. Conclusions: I have come to the conclusion that most students try first narcotic drugs and other addictive substances just because they see it as a source of entertainment, incorporation into a society, relaxation, etc. My research shows that many students have tried drugs berween 13-14 years of age. Title of diploma thesis: History of diabetes treatment in the Czech countries The aims and objectives of the dissertation is to capture the historical development of the treatment of diabetes mellitus in the Czech countries from the earliest times to the present. Diabetes mellitus is a group of diseases whose common feature is hyperglycemia (high blood glucose). It is characterized by impaired secretion or insulin action, and is also associated with impaired metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. About 250 million people suffer from diabetes today and diabetes causes about 5 % of all deaths worldwide , so we can talk even about the global epidemic. In 2012, more than 841 thousand people suffered from diabetes in the Czech Republic, which is about 8% of the Czech population . This represents an increase of number of registered diabetics by about 16,000 people in comparision of the year 2011. History of Production of Drugs and Medical Preparations VI. Zdeněk Klan Company and the Partial Inventory of its Products

The diploma thesis deals with the history of the production of medicines and medicinal products, the company of Zdeněk Klan and a partial inventory of specialties. The aim of the thesis was to map the time, which was characterized by the industrial production of drugs and medicines, the so-called specialties. Zdeněk Klan was able to take advantage of the situation and build his own company Dr. Mr. Zdeněk F. Klan pharmaceutical-chemical laboratory, operating in the years 1924-1948. He was able to compete with other companies with his products. The production was focused mainly on application forms for internal medicine. In addition to human preparations, he also produced preparations for veterinary use. The Klan Company succumbed to the process of nationalization in 1948, when all companies with more than 50 employees were nationalized and subsequently abolished. On the basis of the study of mainly archival sources stored in the Czech Pharmaceutical Museum in Kuks, a thesis was prepared describing this company from its establishment to nationalization. The thesis captures chronological characterization of pharmacies and tries to give a complete overview of the ownership and staff. At the same time, it focuses on collecting of documents in question. Results: The history of the oldest pharmacy in the region of Velké Meziříčí comes back to the 16th century. The pharmacy "U Černého orla" was the only pharmacy in Velké Meziříčí until 1993. There were two pharmacies established during socialist era - first in Křižanov in 1952 and the next year in Měřín.
