The Beekeepering in The Czech Republic on crossroads
Mohrová, Kateřina ; Bartoš, Michael (advisor) ; Daněk, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis entitled The Beekeeping in the Czech Republic on Crossroads aims to get in the current issues of beekeeping. It describes the field of beekeeping, one of the oldest human activities in terms of biology, ecology, history, sociology and practical use. The methodology of this thesis is set in the framework of qualitative research and the discipline of social and cultural ecology which is based on multidisciplinary research. During the research a questionnaire construction was used. The research part focuses on the social and generational issues of beekeeping and reveals the motivation of my respondents for keeping bees. Furthermore it interprets the opinion of my respondents on beekeeping organizations in the Czech Republic, their connection with nature and their own outlook for the near future of beekeeping. In the discussion I summarize the results of the interviews with my respondents and in the conclusion I re-evaluate the aimed goals of my thesis and I give suggestions for further research possibilities in this field.
Fairtrade Coffee Production in Tanzania
Seidlová, Aneta ; Stojanov, Robert (advisor) ; Daněk, Tomáš (referee)
Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world and its consumption is still increasing. The majority of coffee is produced by smallholders from countries of so called "global South". Their livelihoods are influenced by price fluctuations at the world commodity markets. Fairtrade system strives for improving their trade and living conditions. The primary aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the production of coffee on Fairtrade terms in Tanzania. Main research questions focus on the economic and social impacts of Fairtrade on the livelihoods of smallholders, the process of joining the system and meeting Fairtrade standards. Secondary research questions are the perception of climate change, its impacts on the coffee production and the role of Fairtrade in adapting to these changes. The analysis consists of 12 semi-structured interviews conducted with smallholders from Kagera Cooperative Union (KCU) and Karagwe District Cooperative Union (KDCU) from Lake Victoria region. The results show ambiguous positive impacts. On one hand, better availability of education and medical services, but also different profits from social premium in both unions and criticism of one of the main benefits of Fairtrade - the purchase price, which is too low according to most of the respondents. Fish species microhabitat preferences in small streams
Daněk, Tomáš
FISH SPECIES MICROHABITAT PREFERENCES IN SMALL STREAMS This study assesses microhabitat preferences of selected fish species in the environment of small watercourses. The research was carried out at three localities in the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area (the upper and lower part of the Úpoř stream and the Klíčava stream) between 2004 and 2006. Parameters including average water flow, average depth, presence of shelters, width of the watercourse and cover of individual substrate types were monitored in permanent profiles. These sections were then repeatedly electrofished over a course of three years (from April to October of each year). Over 10,000 fish were caught altogether. Relationships between fish species and the environment were analysed at two levels of detail. In all species, preferences towards different 60 m long sections of the watercourse were tested. In small benthic species, namely the common bullhead (Cottus gobio) and the stone loach (Barbatula barbatula), which did not exhibit conspicuous habitat shifts during electrofishing, preferences to three-metre sections of the watercourse were also assessed. Relationships among individual species and between species and their habitats were analysed using both indirect and direct multidimensional linear methods (PCA, RDA) in Canoco...
Rehabilitation of the sensuous world from the environmental perspective of David Abram.
Slovák, Ľuboš ; Daněk, Tomáš (advisor) ; Jaroš, Filip (referee)
This thesis is an attempt to reflect on the theme of phenomena and sensuous world in the context of environmentalism. It deals with the condemnation of phenomena in the modern era science and especially in the contemporary neo-Darwinian biology, and with various attempts at rehabilitation of sensory perception as a relevant way of relating to the world in biology (Adolf Portmann, Hans Driesch) and philosophy (phenomenology, particularly Maurice Merleau-Ponty). The main subject of the thesis is the eco- phenomenology of David Abram and a comparison of his approach with the one held by contemporary biology. Based on this comparison it is argued in what manner may the thoughts of David Abram, and the effort to rehabilitate phenomena in general, be of benefit to the environmental discourse, particularly in terms of forming an original epistemology and ontology and concerning the ethical motivations. KEYWORDS: Abram, phenomenon, environmentalism, neo-Darwinism, phenomenology, eco-phenomenology
Arguments and bases of organizations defending animal rights - can we find rapprochement with the protection of nature?
Vohnoutová, Pavla ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Daněk, Tomáš (referee)
In today's society prevails superior attitude to animals that are seen as mere resources, and this work seeks to highlight this issue . The theoretical part shows where this attitude has its roots and then moves into the context of environmental ethics, while trying to show the views that contradict this position. Practical part is looking for arguments and basis of organizations defending the rights of animals and their possible rapprochement with the protection of nature. The chosen method is to analyze the websites of selected organizations defending the rights of animals, focusing on what the organization published on their websitet and what is missing. The main finding is that the central idea of animal rights organizations is the intrinsic value of animals as beings with a right to a dignified life and with the right to satisfy their natural needs. Protection of the nature on the contrary often prefers to the value of each individual animal the value of nature as a whole. Possible rapprochement with the protection of nature can then be found mainly in areas where there is a distortion of values as both protectino of animals and protection of nature. Key words: animal liberation, animal rights, intrinsic value, protection of animals, protection of nature, organizations defending animal rights
Půdní fyzikální vlastnosti ve výbězích a na louce při chovu koní v ekologickém zemědělství
Daněk, Tomáš
This thesis describes the differences in soil properties within different land use. In the enviromentally freindly farming enterprise were chosen meadow, grazing and the paddock for horses. The enclosure is for daily use, grazing only in good weather and meadow is mowed twice a year for dried hay. Samples of soil were taken three times: in autumn 2013, in spring 2014 and in autumn 2014. Each sample was taken to 3 steel cylinders and also was taken simple soil sample. Samples were analyzed in laboratories. Analyses were performed on pH, granularity, humus, density and bulk density. The result was a determination of the differences in density and porosity of the soil and other parameters mentioned above. Soil in the horses' enclosure was the most compressed and meadow, on the other hand, at least. Humus content was again highest on the meadow, due to the grass cover, paddock was worn out and with no vegetation
Analysis of General Polygon Boolean Operation Algorithms
Daněk, Tomáš ; Zemčík, Pavel (referee) ; Beran, Vítězslav (advisor)
This thesis deals with general polygon boolean operation algorithms. Boolean operations are e.g. intersection, union or difference. A general polygon can be e.g. a selfinterecting polygon with inner hole. Clipping of polygons against a rectangular window is probably the most familiar boolean operation on polygons. At first, basic definitions are listed. Then the principles of a selected set of boolean operation algorithms are reviewed. Finally, a complex comparison of the algorithms is undertaken. Performance as well as the ability to handle degenerate cases are tested. The output of this thesis is an overall evaluation of algorithm properties and a dynamic library that contains the implementation of all of the tested algorithms.
Heat storage tank for heat pumps
Daněk, Tomáš ; Forman, Matěj (referee) ; Hejčík, Jiří (advisor)
The goal is to design a storage tank to the heat pumps air to water. The first part describes how a heat pump works and why it is advantageous to use the tank. Another section focuses on ways to accumulation of heat. Established a program that simulates the behavior of the heat pump system with storage tank, described how this program works and is designed tank size for a given heat pump. The last chapters deal with the calculation of minimum area of heat flow exchanger and the proposal inlet valve for improving the thermal stratification of the tank.
